I actually love this. I don’t look very Asian but my mom is Japanese. In grade school kids would do this:
Chinese! (sides of eyes pulled up)
Japanese! (sides of eyes pulled down)
American knees! (what it sounds like)
Oh, HAHA, HARDEE-HAR.
I have a Co-worker, late-middle aged white lady, but her Ex-hubby is Chinese, so all the kids have clearly asian features.
her son works in our Meat Dept.
one of his Co-workers, who happens to be black, had been making asian jokes, using asian epithets towards the kid for a while, who mostly just shrugs it off.
Recently he’d had enough, told the other one to “Go back to picking cotton”
guess which one got suspended…
@earlyre
That’s horrible, horrible management. The guy can dish it out but one little thing said about him and he goes running to tell. I would make the work environment very uncomfortable for him.
@chienfou@Kyeh My parents have been there. They visited the site while visiting my Aunt who lives in Wiley, Co…about 27mi NW of the camp.
you have to make sure the younger generation Learns about the mistakes of the past.
to that end a couple years back i got my niece, (probably 5th grade at the time) a copy of George Takei’s “They Called Us Enemy” a graphic Novel recalling his family’s time in the camps when he was a little boy.
I recently Got her a Copy of Maus for her birthday after some shitheads decided to ban it.
He said “Rook, Rook”; guy must’ve been thinking 'bout playing a Chess match!!

yep, kids learn what they live… the fruit doesn’t fall far from the tree.
@chienfou @Kyeh
Good. Because the older they get, the smarter I get. I’m gonna be a fuckin’ genius when they’re in their 20s…

Well that CLEARLY sucks! Unfortunately I am not surprised much by it though…

Ugh. One thing I’m happy about - Camp Amache in southern CO is going to be designated a National Historic Site.

My mother didn’t come to the US until after the war - to go to college, not as a war bride, she is very proud about that. But we know people who were in these camps, or their parents were.
@earlyre @Kyeh
Likewise. Not one of our finer moments as a nation…
