After shelling out a bundle for two Bose Portable Home Speakers with the intent to pair them to use with Bluetooth sound for my home projector, I was extremely disappointed that A. Bose doesn’t DO left-right pairing, so it needs to be linked each time you want to use both speakers together (annoying!); and B. that there was a long delay between the video and the sound when using it with the two bose linked speakers (interestingly no delay when linked to projector with only one Bose speaker).
Since these apparently CAN be paired left-to-right, does anyone know if they can be used in this way without a delay?
@jeffdoh you say hooking up to your projector, but do you have a content source prior to that? Generally speaking you’ll have/want an AV receiver but this setup could work quite well with just an AppleTV and airplay. @snapster thanks for your suggestion. Yes, I have an xgimi smart projector that can connect to a speaker via Bluetooth. I use it with a Roku streaming stick. I’m not an Apple guy.
@jeffdoh It’s Bluetooth. There is delay. Whether or not you perceive it is different. Hell, there is delay even in wired, but it’s much less than wireless, say 1-2ms vs 40-60ms. You’ll perceive delay around 150-250ms, unless you’re ultra-sensitive.
I can’t speak for the delay that these would have for your specific situation, but if delay annoys you, don’t use Bluetooth, IMHO.

I’m talking about Tom Hanks Speaking for a minute and the Bose has birds chirping in the background and then tells me what Hanks is saying when Meg Ryan is now the one moving her mouth and reacting all emotional-like. @fring Amazon has this Zipp (at above link) as well as the Zipp Mini on the same page linked to above. The difference seems to be size and how loud/deep it will play.

I think they needed to put the 100 watts of power in the write up on Ad page or whatever they call it. 100 watt bluetooth speaker for 100 dollars is a fucking great deal. The sony xb41 which I paid 100 for on ebay that retails for 249 is only 15 watts. I also got the Santana sounds Europa and the sound quality on that one is amazing and I keep it crank up to max volume and it never rattles and it is only 40 watts. My company will not replace the stereo on the Diesel Shitliner Chassis van I drive so I keep buying more and more powerful bluetooth speakers so that I can hear over a 20 year old diesel engine. I can’t justify another 100 bucks for this one not even knowing if the 75 watt one is worth a shit.
Note this version “Works” with an Alexa device if you have one…but does not have Alexa built in. So you can talk to your existing Echo and control it to do some things.
It’s confusing since there were 3 versions of the Zipp (2 called Zipp and one called Zipp 2) plus some Zipp Minis.
The specs are for the middle version that has Bluetooth and 2 tweeters…but no direct Alexa built in (that is the Zipp 2). It does seem it has some great features like custom tuning with the app and TWS to pair 2 for left right stereo in a single room. Most of these older TWS models will have delay in TWS mode so not great for watching videos in TWS.
@ggrochr This sounds like you are answering my question about my projector from a few posts above: you are saying that if I left-right pair two of these and connect to my projector via Bluetooth, that there will be a delay, just like when I link my Bose speakers. So it’s not the “link” vs. L-R pairing that is the issue, it’s some other technology issue? What is “TWS”? And do you know of bluetooth speakers that I could L-R pair and that WOULD work with video connected via BT without a delay? Does that even exist? TY!
@jeffdoh@stolicat. Wireless Solutions do exist, but will generally not be found in 3-5 year old Bluetooth speakers. All of the true wireless (no cords) earbuds use TWS and if you check the reviews of them on Youtube, some have very minimal/acceptable delay. However, most of the really good ones use Aptx LL or the most recent Bluetooth 5.0. Solicats wired solution would work for sure. New wireless speakers (like the Roku speakers) can work…but they will usually use it as a sales point in the literature if they do.

@ggrochr@stolicat Looked up the Roku speakers, they only work with a Roku TV, unfortunately, or with a Roku Soundbar, but it looks like the Roku soundbar must be hard-wire connected to a TV, so bluetooth from my projector seems like a no-go.
@jeffdoh I replied on your earlier comment and I see here you use Roku and other discussion. AppleTV / Airplay offers some pairing and audio-sync that give you more flexibility than bluetooth (same link again: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT210526)
edit: seeing even more discussion below - your projector isn’t the device you’d expect to support Airplay; switch to AppleTV as source for your projector and you’ve got it.
@jeffdoh true. it also has aptX which is near cd quality/lossless and syncs well to broadcast video. you can buy an aptX bluetooth transmitter dongle that plugs into your projector’s audio out jack and if the zip connects you should be sporty spice!
@jeffdoh look on the specs page in the bose manual. should list the supported bluetooth codecs just like the specs listed above for the Zip. it will say so specifically if supported. hope that helps.

I own 2 Zipps, and a Zipp 2 – three speakers, 1 satisfied customer. I would buy more, but have enough to cover my house.
Multi-room audio via Airplay 2 is really nice to have, and the sound quality is better than my previous BT speakers I’ve used.
I can use Spotify Connect to stream audio for the Zipp 2, but not for the OG models (like these on sale). Most of the time, I’m streaming podcasts from my phone, or music from iTunes on my laptop.
@jeffdoh - it is my understanding that if you update the firmware on the Zipp speakers to enable Airplay 2, you lose the ability to set up L/R stereo pairs with the updated Zipps. That’s according to Libratone’s support pages, and some disappointed owners.
If you just want an affordable entree into multi-room audio, these might do, but if you want a device with a longer support path/plan, you might want to wait for a sale on something like a Sonos One.
Again, I like these enough to have 3 of them, but I know what they do, and what I want them to do.

I was waiting for Prime Day to see if I could get a deal on Sonos, like I did last year, but who knows if there will even be a PD this year (I hear Oct. is now the plan). Would this integrate into my system well? I know it won’t show up in the Sonos app, but I would be able to Airplay to it and to my Sonos at the same time right?
A CNN (I think) review of the OG Zipp said you could only stream over WiFi/Airplay if you connected your phone (or whatever) to the speaker’s built-in WiFi. In other words, impossible to be WiFi connected to the speaker and the Internet at the same time, so no Spotify streaming, or playing if anything that’s not already been downloaded to your phone, etc. Lame. Can anyone confirm that this is or is not the case for this speaker here?
It can supply its own ad-hoc wifi network so you can stream to it.
You can add it to your own wifi network that’s got an internet connection so you can stream services like Spotify from your phone to the Zipp from the internet.
It also has a bluetooth option for connecting to it as well (and the aux cable, but who uses those anymore?)

Wait a minute. I just bought a pair believing it was a newer generation that has Alexa built in ? Is this not the case ? Did I buy a clearance of older models or did the updated Alexa model never exist ?
@myselfalone You bought the older model, the newer model the Zipp 2 exists and is available on Amazon. But since Libratone is out of business they are all clearence. Perhaps the Zipp 2 will be available here soon.
Mine just arrived. Looks very nice. But, I cannot get it to connect to Spotify Connect using the Spotify app. It sees the Zipp…but will not connect. Notme said it would not work with Spotify Connect, but I missed that. for IOS devices you should be able to connect it through Airplay. On Android, there is an App called “HiFly” that seems to make it work, but that runs $4. Let me know if anyone gets Spotify Connect to work directly through WiFi.
It does sound very good…and has the prettiest Power adapter I have ever seen

My Zipp has firmware version 644 which dates from 2017. You can see your firmware version in the Libratone app under “Settings”. In 2018 (firmware above 665) they added the works with Alexa Capability, plus Airplay 2. So, unless they send a firmware update through the app, mine will have No Spotify Connect, No Airplay 2, and No Works with Alexa. It looks very nice.
@ggrochr Mine arrived today and I followed the instructions to update the firmware through the app. It had to do two updates but now it is on firmware 809.
@belden Thanks for the reply belden. I was able to update mine, first to 665 then to 809 firmware. I could not do it with the app. I went to my Zipp’s web page (it says the address of my zipp on the status page of the app). There is a firmware update button there which worked after a few tries. On firmware 809 Spotify Connect Works!, Internet Radio Works! Have not tried Alexa or Airplay 2 yet. Happy!
I got mine delivered today … had issues connecting to my WiFi router using the App for Airplay. Tried all the suggestions for troubleshooting via iPhone and Mac but nothing worked. Then i tried the suggestion posted for Android which was to open a browser window and access the speaker settings thru the device like you would for a router it WORKED, make sure you have the speaker in Setup mode first … use this: 192.168.1.1
@Jonatan2u Good suggestion. I did this from my Windows Laptop…you need to connect to the wireless network that the Zipp broadcasts while it is in setup mode. I think this may be the most stable way for setup if you have problems using the app.
Got these set up today. I had ordered two. They are a lot bigger than I expected. I guess I didn’t pay attention to that in the descriptions and research. I plugged them in and downloaded the the app. No issues for me getting them to connect to my wifi and playing via airplay off my phone (iTunes and Spotify). Got them "soundspace link"ed and they sound really nice. Looking forward to the portableness of these. I have some nice small bluetooth speakers that I have gotten by with, but these are putting out a really nice rich sound.
Purchased a pair because I thought it would be great to have a stereo set of speakers to wirelessly connect to my Echo Show on my desk. Boy, was I mistaken. The setup process is shitty, at best. Trying to get stereo connectivity in any way other than through the Libratone app is impossible it seems. Connecting simply via Bluetooth produces sound from only one speaker. In talking with tech support, it seems that the only Alexa-enabled device that can connect to Libratone wirelessly is the Echo Dot (who even uses just that anymore?) Using the dedicated Libratone app, streaming in stereo through Tidal, Spotify, and “Internet Radio” is available, but only through that app. I won’t deny that they do sound great, but the connectivity limits make these practically useless. Hoping I can return these as they aren’t doing the very simple thing I expected them to do.

You can use wires for no delay, maybe - looks like they have input jacks.

IIRC Airplay 2 (the one where Shat sees the Enterprise through the periscope) is suppose to remedy most of the delay issue.

Hi, i purchased this very excited, coz our current bluetooth speaker setup sucks, and we’ve been trying to go out more and enjoythe sun.
But also would love to have better sound at home while cooking at stuff, since we currently rely on a first generation echo.

@dvidsilva The company went bankrupt in May and as best I can tell from Danish reporting they were trying to liquidate and sell their assets to someone else within a few weeks of declaring bankruptcy.

So it’s sorta an Amazon Tap with added Airplay.
…Sorta, if you connect it to an Echo Dot.

Wait a minute. I just bought a pair believing it was a newer generation that has Alexa built in ? Is this not the case ? Did I buy a clearance of older models or did the updated Alexa model never exist ?
@myselfalone You bought the older model, the newer model the Zipp 2 exists and is available on Amazon. But since Libratone is out of business they are all clearence. Perhaps the Zipp 2 will be available here soon.
Mine just arrived. Looks very nice. But, I cannot get it to connect to Spotify Connect using the Spotify app. It sees the Zipp…but will not connect. Notme said it would not work with Spotify Connect, but I missed that. for IOS devices you should be able to connect it through Airplay. On Android, there is an App called “HiFly” that seems to make it work, but that runs $4. Let me know if anyone gets Spotify Connect to work directly through WiFi.
It does sound very good…and has the prettiest Power adapter I have ever seen

@ggrochr Mine arrived today and I followed the instructions to update the firmware through the app. It had to do two updates but now it is on firmware 809.
@belden Thanks for the reply belden. I was able to update mine, first to 665 then to 809 firmware. I could not do it with the app. I went to my Zipp’s web page (it says the address of my zipp on the status page of the app). There is a firmware update button there which worked after a few tries. On firmware 809 Spotify Connect Works!, Internet Radio Works! Have not tried Alexa or Airplay 2 yet. Happy!
I got mine delivered today … had issues connecting to my WiFi router using the App for Airplay. Tried all the suggestions for troubleshooting via iPhone and Mac but nothing worked. Then i tried the suggestion posted for Android which was to open a browser window and access the speaker settings thru the device like you would for a router it WORKED, make sure you have the speaker in Setup mode first … use this: 192.168.1.1
@Jonatan2u Good suggestion. I did this from my Windows Laptop…you need to connect to the wireless network that the Zipp broadcasts while it is in setup mode. I think this may be the most stable way for setup if you have problems using the app.
Got these set up today. I had ordered two. They are a lot bigger than I expected. I guess I didn’t pay attention to that in the descriptions and research. I plugged them in and downloaded the the app. No issues for me getting them to connect to my wifi and playing via airplay off my phone (iTunes and Spotify). Got them "soundspace link"ed and they sound really nice. Looking forward to the portableness of these. I have some nice small bluetooth speakers that I have gotten by with, but these are putting out a really nice rich sound.
Purchased a pair because I thought it would be great to have a stereo set of speakers to wirelessly connect to my Echo Show on my desk. Boy, was I mistaken. The setup process is shitty, at best. Trying to get stereo connectivity in any way other than through the Libratone app is impossible it seems. Connecting simply via Bluetooth produces sound from only one speaker. In talking with tech support, it seems that the only Alexa-enabled device that can connect to Libratone wirelessly is the Echo Dot (who even uses just that anymore?) Using the dedicated Libratone app, streaming in stereo through Tidal, Spotify, and “Internet Radio” is available, but only through that app. I won’t deny that they do sound great, but the connectivity limits make these practically useless. Hoping I can return these as they aren’t doing the very simple thing I expected them to do.
