Last minute flights - Priceline, why hast thou forsaken me?
0My buddies in Miami want me to show up for homecoming. I want to go. If there's a seat on a flight that takes off in the next 2 hours, why is it $840?
I figured priceline might be able to hook me up with a flexible red-eye for under $200, but no such luck. Looks like I'm not getting on a plane for less than $350, and that's with bad connections to a "nearby" airport.
Damn you economics (& @thumperchick)!

I've heard if you actually call the airline and ask about unlisted tickets they have deals sometimes.
I've heard you can get a pretty good price if you stow away in the wheel wells.
I've heard of nothing resembling a good deal in air travel for years
@matthew Ain't that the truth
@matthew Actually, not true. I went from Philly to Vegas for $147, round trip. Naturally, that happened when it was on the company's dime. I barely had time for myself there, but I did find a way to lose $7000 before breakfast on the last day there.
Oh, and I just got around to submitting the expense report for that. For the $147, not the craps fees.
This seems not like a total slam-dunk counterexample to me
@matthew A couple of years ago I went to Paris for the weekend because it was cheaper from Chicago than any American city, reservations a week in advance. $514 round trip. I'm callin' that a good deal.
@matthew http://www.pressherald.com/2014/11/01/wow-air-will-fly-across-the-atlantic-for-99/
@Ruger9mm Nice if you live in or near where they are flying from.
@editorkid OK, upgrading from nothing resembling a good deal in air travel to one thing
@matthew In January the lady and I flew R/T from Dallas to Paris for $383/person. It was a flash sale from travelzoo.com. Worth checking out, they have killer deals from time to time. Just have to be flexible on where and when you are willing to travel.
@matthew You must not have read my "So I'm Going to NYC" thread. Round Trip LAX to NYC $148 with taxes on Virgin America.
Get a big box and mail yourself, like Garfield always tried to do to Nermal.
In all seriousness, Friday evenings are never a super-cheap time to fly because a lot of people do weekend getaways. And it's Halloween too, not a big travel holiday but I'm sure it's a factor.
Hollboll is right, try calling the airline. Can't hurt to try.
Meh should sell super-cheap plane tickets. That would be fun.
Start driving. It'll take you about 20 hours.
@DaveInSoCal I used to do it in 14 hours. Then I got safer and could do it in 17. Then I got old and it takes me about 36.
I've heard that Meh can tell why kids love Cinnamon Toast Crunch.
@The_Baron ok, I'll bite. What makes kids love Cinnamon Toast Crunch.
@JerseyFrank i'm guessing it's the cocaine sprinkled on every flake.
Well, it all has to do with the goat controlled OPEC price fixing of crude oil. We really do rule the world.
Best deal on a ticket I ever got was a ticket from L.A. to Dallas for $248 round trip about 2 months ago. I used cheapoair.com. Have you checked there yet?
If you are looking for tickets, every time you look for them after the first, you get varying prices depending on the airline, time, and availability- clear your cookies or use private mode in your browser to make sure you are getting unaltered prices.
@dashcloud I knew clear cookies hadn't thought of private mode. hotels and all the rest are the same too, and forget price match that's set up in such a way that it never will happen, you would not belive the fight we had with what we thought was Hotwire only to turn out to be expedia the dollar ammount of the week long 20 person fight???? $30 yep, for me though it came down the principle of it. that and the constantly being lied to
@dashcloud and don't travel-search on an Apple laptop or desktop.
@thumperchick There's kind of a reason why some forums threads after a certain amount of time.
hint hint
@FroodyFrog wat?
@RedOak why, what happens if you search on Apple ?
@ceagee it has been reported Internet sellers assume higher economic demographics for Apple laptop and desktop searchers vs the average Windows user. The premise being they would present higher prices.
From what I've heard - airlines have nothing to lose till the very last minute. Sometimes it's just better to lose someone than fill that one more seat (and fuel, meal, water, service and everything); of course not if they have plenty of those, but that just don't happen nowadays.
Did you try to get a "Hacker Fare" via Kayak?
The prices are high because of...
fuel costs, yea that's the ticket.
oh hmm... better update the excuse generator.
Ooh use Kayak
@legendornothing the hacker fares are awesome. $113 round trip to vegas from lax!
Dammit someone already said that
@JerseyFrank Off-topic, but someone told me that you sort of had my back on the Bruce Jenner thingy last week and that it was nearly epic. I didn't see it, but thanks anyway. :)
@jsimsace bringing up a comment that had to be deleted isn't a good look.
