@Fej The hot plate and the water heater are usually bonded together and share the heating element. Excess heat from the water heater is basically why the hot plate is hot. You really cannot separate them. Because of this though, there is a temperature control snap switch that keeps the plate from getting too hot compared to an actual hot plate.
Oh, also, this is why coffee makers generally last so long. No major moving parts, just a single heater element percolating the water, some tubes, and sometimes a one way valve.
Alright meh, you win this one. A day after complaining about a month of lousy offerings, you put up not only something I need, but something with pretty good reviews for its price point at an incredibly cheap price. talkative-amateur-crab
I just tried to order and my VMP status wasn't showing. It tried to charge me shipping. Hey meh, I'm as mediocre as it gets! What's up with my status--I can't find that I'm active now--I was on June 2nd for the Looney Tunes MP3 players. Have I been kicked out of the cool kids' club!
@uncrph90 Same here when I wanted to order one. I got charged for VMP last month but it didn't show a charge for this month. I was really tempted to buy this but now that I know I'm not VMP status anymore...meh..it just doesn't seem like as great as bargain now..eh
@uncrph90@ladyb95 almost every single time I've seen this happen it's because there was a problem charging the card we had on file. Hit up support at https://meh.com/support and they can let you know what happened.
Lots of reports of a plastic smell or plastic-tasting coffee. Amazon Warehouse Deals has a bunch of these for under $20. I love a good plastic-tasting drink in the morning as much as the next guy, but I'm gonna pass.
@pwademetzger I just have this sad image of receiving this in the mail, plugging it in once, filling my apartment with the smell if burning plastic, and immediately tossing it in the dumpster. Wouldn't even make sense to spend the money shipping it back. 30 day warranty isn't very encouraging either.
Looks like a good deal, but it's absolutely ruined by a 30 day warranty. Guess who didn't test these at all when they came back the first time? Never in a million years buy something that only has a thirty day warranty.
Meh. Picked up a near identical unit for $15 at Target. It comes out 3 or 4 times a year for the holidays when it just makes sense to brew a full pot instead of 8 to 15 single cup brews in the Keurig. But I don't need two for that purpose, so.... meh.
I have this pot and love it. Bought it from woot for more money a few years ago- though mine has a stainless carafe. Stainless is strange, because you can't readily see how much coffee is left. Bought this for redundancy and the glass carafe option. scary-jolly-spot
@chellemonkey The longer brew option could actually be a bad thing.. The longer tea steeps the greater chance it has to become bitter. You should only steep good tea for 2-3 minutes. I made this purchase based on the fact that I will no longer have to wait for the kettle on the stove. Hopefully this thing will be kind to my Twinings Lady Grey ;)
Husband bought one. We're adding it to our closet of "Lovely Parting Gifts" that we have been collecting from Meh. It's basically an "Oh shit! We didn't get them a gift!" closet. Need a DVD player? Deep fryer? Blue tooth speaker set? How about the ever popular speaker dock?
Remanufactured: Manufacturers sell used equipment, but they like to call it remanufactured, which means it was refurbished by the manufacturer itself and not a third party. Remanufacturing means that the manufacturer audited, tested and updated the equipment.
Refurbished: Refurbished equipment is used equipment that has been audited, cleaned and tested by a third party, not the manufacturer. The refurbishing process includes bringing any parts up to the latest levels and updating any parts. Refurbished equipment can sell for between 60-90% off the list price.
Wow! Mine just showed up this afternoon. Either you guys are really on top of it or this thing is radioactive and you needed to get rid of it ASAP. Either way, the giant shipping box couldn't have arrived at a better time either, so thanks!
@tnt mine got here today also. When I push the power button it make a pop sound like when a circuit breaker trips then the screen goes black and won't light back up. If I cycle the plug it comes back on and then the same process starts over. Damn and I set our 15year old pot on the curb for grabs yesterday and its gone :( 15 years and that trusty $15 pot kept me well caffeinated and now I'm stuck with a $10 coffee MEHchine that can't even keep itself awake. Hope you and I are just the unlucky and we don't see a trend of crap
@OldCatLady First pot of coffee tastes like the wet water filter smelled. Yes, I ran water through the filter for a minute before I put it in. Okay, I'll try running a pot of hot water through the filter to see whether that clears the taste.
@OldCatLady Ran two pots of water and one more mediocre pot of coffee, Next pot was perfect, so the plastic taste came from the charcoal filter, This means every time I change it, we'll have to remember the routine. Still, it works just as described and is definitely a step up from the French press.
This was worthless, clearly they just put it back in the box and shipped it out as "remanufactured". Spewed water everywhere, sounded like it was going to blow up, and it cost $14.95 to send in for warranty!
@matthewlwallace seems like you already wrote into support and got an answer, but just in case you didn't see it - we don't think they'll actually charge you that $15, but if they do then we'll get it figured out with you.
Just felt like chiming in with a good experience to balance some of the complaints. I freaking love this machine. Mine came in new-looking condition and works great, makes a nice pot of coffee fast. Possibly the best deal I've ever gotten from meh.
I couldn't be happier with my purchase. Came in perfect condition (looks brand new). I wake up to coffee everyday. Splurged and ordered a reusable filter as well as the water filter puck things. Sorry to hear that some had issues.
