@Stallion My wife got ours when we registered for our wedding. Awesome machine, but don't go buying all the attachments unless you plan to use them. We still have many we've never used yet years later.
same mixer for 200 dollars from sears? or is there really a difference between 'artisan' and 'pro plus' the only thing I see that I get extra from meh is the splatter guard which i dont think is worth 40 dollars, one on sears says 450 watts of power while this one only boasts 325? i think i am going to sears after this post....
The refurbs are available from Kitchenaid on Ebay for a little less, and you get a better color selection.
When I ordered mine, they were $199. About 2-3 days after I ordered it, I got an email that they were out of stock and were sending me a NEW one instead. When I got it, there was a $50 rebate form in the package. I filled it out and actually got a check about 4 weeks later
This just isn't a great deal at $235... I mean, it's cheaper, but I guess I expected a bigger discount from Meh
@cengland0 Yeah, we picked up a Professional 5 Plus (a considerably nicer model than this) for about this price from Everything Kitchens about a year ago when they were having a promotion. This isn't a great deal. By the way, I highly recommend the bowl lift models (such as the Professional 5 Plus) over the tilt models like this.
@Pantheist I see the description say $280 and the forum say $279.99. I think due to limited space on the home page, they round up to the nearest dollar.
This isn't a big enough discount to get people to feel like they need to buy it in 24 hours. I'd buy one since I don't have one, and have had great experiences in the past, but I don't have enough counter space and don't use on nearly often enough to justify a purchase like this.
@boygenius1991 I used to keep mine in the pantry, now it's in the basement. I haven't brought it out in a long time. To solve the counter space issue, just don't keep it on the counter. I must admit I don't use it that often, but when I do it is the best at what it does!
I've seen several movies containing these units modified into very interesting interactive adult toys. I have unlimited mixed emotions about this fact....often.
@sammydog01 Only if there's gravy to go with it, but if I eat that many potatoes I usually can only squeeze in about half a dozen pieces of fried chicken. :-)
1) Not much of a discount. 2) Get a lift style one, these tilt ones don't have nearly as much power and if you're getting one of these you'll eventually want more capability.
@alextse I have a lift one, and while I'm pretty adept at it, it annoys others since you have to pull the paddle after mixing. The tilt ones let you get to the paddle/beaters a bit easier.
@droopus I have the nice commercial version myself. It is nice. Only issue so far is that some of the options don't fit that model such as the ice cream maker bowl. Not too big of a deal since I have two separate ice cream makers anyway.
@droopus You bake a lot of sourdough? What am I doing wrong? My starter seems fine. The taste is awesome. The texture is perfect (it's actually very light). But my loaves always seem to rise "out" and not "up". I've debated on using loaf pans.... but I have no idea what I'm doing wrong.... (this was done in a KP26M1 - which is awesome)
@Pufferfishy Seems like you don't have enough steam during cooking. Some people use trays of water but I prefer a La Cloche loaf crock or a Le Creuset dutch oven. I put it in a cold oven, turn the heat to 500 and leave it for 45 minutes. I then take off the lid and bake for another 15 -20 minutes at 400. Here's an Imgur gallery of how I make my loaves. http://imgur.com/a/TSasn If you scroll down about 3/4s of the way you'll see the Le Crueset dutch oven. Your dough looks great, and obviously your starter is working well, but I think you need some moisture in the oven. That's the secret of bakeries - steam injection ovens.
@droopus Thanks! This looks VERY helpful. I am cooking in a dutch oven - but doing LOTS of things you do differently. I used TWO cups of starter. (I think this resulted in a batch of dough that probably should have been split in two) I add my salt when the flour goes in. I kneaded this for 15 minutes. I pre-heat my dutch oven along with the oven (as you can see - the dough was proofed on a rack). And I was convection baking at 400. I think my dough was too wet as well. This is all still very new to me so I knew some failures were imminent, but I appreciate the pointers. I think that will help a lot. I've read that real successes come when you weigh, not measure, the flour. I have to start doing that. LOL - but we use the same flour!!! That flop tastes WONDERFUL - so if I can get my loaves to come to life anything like what you've got there I'm sure they will be amazing.
You have a 150 year old starter??? Impressive! I wish I could find someone with a "historic" starter like that.
@Pufferfishy You can. There's a guy named Ed Wood who is my Obi-Wan of sourdough. He was a physician and teacher and gave it all up to devote himself to sourdough history and gathering cultures from all over the world. One of his Egyptian cultures is 3000 years old! He has a website at sourdo.com and his book (my bible of baking) is an inexpensive paperback at Amazon. You can order any culture you like from him, and other than a local culture i made myself and one from San Francisco a baker friend gave me, all my cultures are from Ed. This is his book link, http://www.amazon.com/Classic-Sourdoughs-Revised-Bakers-Handbook/dp/1607740079/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1435686543&sr=8-1&keywords=ed+wood+sourdough but check out his website as well. If you have questions, he actually gets back to you personally. Great guy as well. Don't sweat it. It took me two years till I could confidently pull a nice loaf out of the oven every time. My wife joked I made great house bricks. //bruce
@droopus Awesome - and thanks again. Considering this is only me second loaf and it actually tasted good and had decent texture here's hoping it's not long before I have one I don't eat in secrete shame ;)
@Pufferfishy The book is well worth the money too. Paperback from Amazon, it explains not only the subtle differences in cultures but Ed's techniques for proofing, which you'll notice are very like mine...cause I adopted most of them. B) Good luck!
@droopus I am finding the whole process to be rather cathartic, much like gardening. And, as far as "hobbies" go, (well - short of buying a second fridge) it's really not expensive. I've already picked up a ton of knowledge from Ed's site - and in fact my "homegrown" culture now seems to be thriving after changing my feeding process. I plan to limit myself to one loaf a week - 'cause I will eat the entire thing if there's "spares" cluttering up the place.
@Pufferfishy Indeed, same reason I took up baking. I can only look at code for so long before I need to do something analog. I bake two loaves a week, usually a third of the first one goes out to the woods. We have the fattest squirrels you've ever seen. B)
@bx2a5z This one (direct from KitchenAid on eBay) is a great step up and routinely drops to $220. You don't get to pick the color - but then if the color is a deal breaker you really don't want an awesome mixer as much as you want kitchen decor. http://www.ebay.com/itm/130573476963
I got mine from Gilt.com. It's the next model up- 475 HP, lift-stand, and I paid $194 after $30 mail in rebate. They don't currently have any, but have had them in a couple of times since I bought mine.
Meh. Bosch is a far superior mixer, makes it easier to add ingredients while mixing, easier to store, doesn't weigh 800 lbs (number not exact) and the best [dollar amount redacted] I ever spent!
@farneyboy Yeah, I sorta wonder if these are like Kirby vacuum cleaners... I'm sure they were pretty good when they first came out, but now they're just heavy and lack some of the features of newer mixers. For some reason, people still seem to think Kriby is a good brand, but they haven't change (updated/advanced in technology) in years. Same thing with these mixers?
@medz I think Kitchenaid is still popular because it's the more affordable option than Bosch. I say, for certain items, pay the extra for higher quality..
This just isn't really a deal. Even without the screaming deal at Sears, or the refurbs on ebay - if you pay attention, have some patience and throw in a bit of effort, you can do way better than this price.

"daily deal"
No Paco, no deal!
I'm sure this is a deal for $45 off, but for $235, it ain't a deal for me.

@sp3ar the one you linked is actually better
@Pantheist Right - this is the one we have. And for $200 that's a heck of a deal. It's more powerful and has the bowl-lift mechanism.
@sp3ar That pro version is nicer than this one. I'm wishing I had $200 to drop on an upgrade right now.
@Thumperchick gawd after staring at this one and all the links to cheaper made me buy a refurb from ebay i chose Ice color! 169.99
Too bad paco isn't included, that would've been an impulse buy.
Not a deal to me.. Wondering why I stayed up for this "deal"..sigh.. Oh meh oh meh why only 45 dollars off???
Well that's appetizing.

Better deals on this all the time :/
Also I already have one
yawn
Why does the one linked in the description say 258 at amazon when the price comparison here says 280 at amazon?
@Pantheist I see the description say $280 and the forum say $279.99. I think due to limited space on the home page, they round up to the nearest dollar.
@cengland0 I'm talking about here: https://meh.com/deals/kitchenaid-artisan-series-5-quart-stand-mixer
Excuse me, Sir, mix a lot?
@Fish_Kungfu This deal has me all mixed up.
This isn't a big enough discount to get people to feel like they need to buy it in 24 hours. I'd buy one since I don't have one, and have had great experiences in the past, but I don't have enough counter space and don't use on nearly often enough to justify a purchase like this.

I need some new lawn chairs Meh, hook me up.
I've seen several movies containing these units modified into very interesting interactive adult toys. I have unlimited mixed emotions about this fact....often.
@GeriatricDragon ha "mixed" emotions.
@GeriatricDragon So they turn them into BedroomAids?
Wow, good one. Really quality one.
"Mashed potato yield: 7 lbs". So basically it makes about twice as many smashed 'taters as I can eat in one sitting?
Tempting...
How many chicken fried steaks does it make to go with the 'taters?
@ruouttaurmind Three and a half pounds? I'm impressed.
@ruouttaurmind spuds are good. Yum.
@sammydog01 Only if there's gravy to go with it, but if I eat that many potatoes I usually can only squeeze in about half a dozen pieces of fried chicken. :-)

@thismyusername Yeah, that's a fair point of difference. My argument would be that it's an easy thing to get around whereas lack of power is not.
Got an Artisan now, (I bake a lot of sourdough) and want to move up to the ProLine 7 qt, or if the $$ is there, the KSMC895ER Commercial 8 Qt.
Love my Kitchen Aid though....
@droopus I have the nice commercial version myself. It is nice. Only issue so far is that some of the options don't fit that model such as the ice cream maker bowl. Not too big of a deal since I have two separate ice cream makers anyway.

@Pufferfishy you may be overproofing it
@cengland0 I'm jealous. My Artisan is getting loose, even though I tighten the bolts periodically.
@Pufferfishy Seems like you don't have enough steam during cooking. Some people use trays of water but I prefer a La Cloche loaf crock or a Le Creuset dutch oven. @droopus I got the book - and 6 purple mason jars. And the same proofing box you have. But this isn't becoming an obsession.
@Pufferfishy Nah of course not. When I took over a whole second fridge with cultures, she started looking at me funny. Loves the bread though. B)
@droopus I am finding the whole process to be rather cathartic, much like gardening. And, as far as "hobbies" go, (well - short of buying a second fridge) it's really not expensive. Refurb of exact same model is $169 on eBay. Save $65 by avoiding this "great deal" from meh.

@TCayer 475 HP? This comes in Artisan colors as well.
@G1 @TCayer Just imagine if you hooked THAT thing to the KitchenAid mixer!
@TCayer @G1 I've got a Ram Jet 502 on mine. http://www.chevrolet.com/performance/crate-engines/big-block-ram-jet-502.html
@G1
So, if I order one this time, will a box actually arrive at my house with a mixer in it?
@sammydog01 I want to see proof that button was earned! :-)
@one_two3456
No entries yet? That imaginary hug is as good as mine!
Edit: 'cept for sammydog01
@medz My entry'll marmoSET you in your place!

These KitchenAid stand mixers are the single remaining KitchenAid product we like. (Everything else has prematurely broken and the support sucked.)
But just after 10am Eastern and only 18 sold? Ouch. And based upon the color-density on the map, three or more of those 18 are in our state.
I thought this was a daily deal site, my mistake.
Woot side deals has same mixer, refurb, for $169.50.
@geminijane New means nobody has mixed large batches of toenail fungus creams in it. With refurbished, there's no telling!
If you're eyeing this guy to make dough and whipped cream or whatever, like Ma used to, I highly recommend this Ninja set. I use it for smoothies daily, but the food processor part is awesome, and it makes OBJECTIVELY THE BEST whipped cream:

Terrible deal. The Pro series, manufacturer refurbished, is on sale on EBay for $169.99 today EBay link to Pro mixer
@bklamber5 and thats how Gary got his first stand mixer......... I like happy endings

@brhfl Nicely done.
@brhfl Purple?
@Barney Purple! :)
@brhfl Aww, that's so cool.
So who won the hug? Also, am I supposed to imagine it when I win or will someone else imagine me being hugged?
I want to buy KitchenAid stand mixer.
Where to buy kitchenaid products In India?
Are kitchenaid products available in India?
@kuldeepkitchen Those seem like questions for google.com - good luck!
The product sold here was sold on July 30, 2015.
