What’s “Coolmax” fiber that is 20% of these sheets, you ask?
Coolmax is the brand name for a series of polyester fabrics developed and marketed by Invista (formerly Dupont Textiles and Interiors).
Coolmax is marketed as “moisture-wicking” and “breathable”. As a polyester, it is moderately hydrophobic, so it absorbs little fluid and dries relatively quickly (compared to absorbent fibers such as cotton). The cross-section is non-round, in order to produce a wicking effect via capillary action.
Like other polyester fabrics, Coolmax is flammable and has a relatively low melting point (~255 °C), giving clothes made from it a tendency to melt and fuse to the wearer’s skin when exposed to high heat. This has led to Coolmax and other polyesters (along with acrylic and rayon) being restricted or banned in certain high-fire-risk applications, such as firefighting and front-line combat.
Available colors: Aqua, Sage, Mint, Silver, Taupe and White.
(I couldn’t see the colors listed anywhere, but thought you might wanna know, so I head-faked Meh into believing I was gonna order some of these, LOL as if.)
Microfiber Facts
You won’t find a thread count listed on your microfiber sheet label because of the way they are made. The fabric is spun at roughly half the diameter of a fine silk fiber in a spinneret. A silk fiber is approximately 1.25 denier, making a microfiber roughly 0.9 denier. A denier is a unit of measurement for the linear density of fibers, typically man-made. Microfiber fabrics are made from polyester, nylon or acrylics, depending upon the manufacturer.
“90 gsm” means 90 grams per square meter. Yup, these are measured by weight, not thread count, because the threads are more fine than silk or a human hair.
@mehcuda67@stolicat Yeah be nice if wild ones were that cute too. I gather as pets they are affectionate and loyal little critters. We have rats in this building who are not pets!! You can hear them in the ceiling when on the first floor. Directly across the hall from me they have trapped 7 so far. None in my apartment - yet anyway. Hoping it is because they smell my cats and decided to stay away.
@Kidsandliz@mehcuda67 aside from the roof rats, we also have dusky-footed woodrats, more closely related to guinea pigs than regular rats, They live in the forest and build these huge multi-generational nests of twigs, never come around the house and are cute as hell …
I saw the title of this product before I saw the picture.
As a child of the 90s, I haven’t been this disappointed since Obama gave away the internet to the UN.
I have had problems funding good sheets. I use 2 sets now, both 100% cotton. Bought microfiber and they are horrible, all shiny and slippery. How are these in comparison? More cotton like or more microfiber?
@Beruud These are microfiber (spun polyester) and coolmax (oval thread polyester), so… polyester. Slightly less shiny, just as gross. To be fair, these are great for maximum warmth with minimum bulk, if you layer them on top or between two cotton sheets. But anything that says “wicking” has no business next to your skin, outside of some specific competitive sport applications.
@cinoclav@ThunderChicken Looking back on this, can’t ignore this looks like has no right arm, and there is a hand escaping her butt. I can only ponder that she lost her arm while trekking in the pictures hills in only skimpy clothes, how careless. Now to provide more balance, the former arm is secured as a tail, hence the butt-hand.
@404Error@ThunderChicken I look at it and think, “That hand is just one little piece of evidence of her flexibility.” My sordid imagination does the rest.
@404Error@cinoclav@ThunderChicken I can’t see Kathy Ireland without thinking of one of the most messed up episodes of Family Guy (and that’s saying a lot).
“microfiber.” that doesn’t tell anybody what fiber it is that’s being micro-ed. That always makes me feel like they are hiding something. Like saying a sweater is made of 100% yarn.
@pmcgrane As opposed to: polyester, orlon, nylon, dacron, antron, latex, silk, flax, wool, modal, bamboo, eucalyptus, coolmax, lycra, olefin, microfiber, tencel, soy, and a few others, I guess. Did you want a list?
top and bottom sheet, 2 comforters and a top sheet on top of that to gather the cat hair from three fat cats. Easy to just change that top sheet every day. Now if those fat cats could just change into one dog… that would be awesome!
polyunshatserrated bad buy. 100% poly esther anything making regular contact w/your 98 degree body temp other than a rain jacket or a sports jersey is wicky wicky wack. cotton is king. what’s this sheet called love!?
@okthemighty interesting, so people who shop at meh sleep better than normal mortals. It’s normal mortals, not meh users, who roll around all night regretting their daily purchases.
Finally tried these out last night. Pros: The fitted sheet stayed put on my double sided queen pillow top all night, no corners popping off. They are adequately soft, and actually wicked away sweat.
Cons: While they are pretty soft, they can’t come close to the comfort of actual cotton sheets.
They’re cheap. Cheap-thin fabric (granted, it’s soft) but one flimsy string of elastic around the edge of the fitted sheet. I don’t think they would last more than about 4 washes.

Model sheets
@Stallion She was definitely my first crush. I think I even bought the SI Swimsuit Calendar and kept it on her month year round. Model sheets indeed.
@Mac454 @Stallion Here’s a little something to put on your mattress. (Also pictured is a mattress pad.)
@Mac454 @Stallion @ThunderChicken That’s my mattress pad! $25 at the Big O. Easily the best $25 ever spent. Totally exceeded expectations.
@Mac454 Same here, had a calendar and all. #crushedher
I hate microfiber sheets so hard. Yuck.
@Pony And slippery. Fall right off the bed!
Rayon/Cotton sheets forevermore.
Sorry, give me 100% natural cotton fibers. Not tryin to sleep on 100% plastic sheets y’all.
Bluetooth???
That’s what cold weather is for: working up a sweat in bed!
No Cali king size though.
Getting sweaty with Kathy
What’s “Coolmax” fiber that is 20% of these sheets, you ask?
@mike808 ooo yeah, wrap me in that stuff and turn up the heat!
@mike808 @stolicat especially if you are, ummmm, ‘on fire’ with your bedtime activities…
I bought the organic cotton not into a third of my life encased in polyester petroleum product. Thanks for the choice.
¿Que?
No sheet (s), Sherlock.
“The sheets regulate the temperature and wick moisture so you don’t get too sweaty”
So this still makes you sweaty? I’m looking for sheets that keep me cool.
: wipes forehead from South Florida heat :
Available colors: Aqua, Sage, Mint, Silver, Taupe and White.
(I couldn’t see the colors listed anywhere, but thought you might wanna know, so I head-faked Meh into believing I was gonna order some of these, LOL as if.)
@UncleVinny Are those colors, or flavors?
What is “microfiber”, you ask?
“90 gsm” means 90 grams per square meter. Yup, these are measured by weight, not thread count, because the threads are more fine than silk or a human hair.
@mike808 Damn, is there a more environmentally-friendly alternative?
Why am I considering these? Because I sweat and want to be cool. Or is it I am cool and want to be sweet? Wait, what?
Is that last picture rat sheet?
@mehcuda67 that last picture is really cute - wish the rats around here were that adorable …
@mehcuda67 @stolicat Yeah be nice if wild ones were that cute too. I gather as pets they are affectionate and loyal little critters. We have rats in this building who are not pets!! Kathy Ireland sheets, but without Kathy Ireland, are just sheets.
@phendrick Well sheet.
Hah! All our 100% cotton sheets already do that.
Get too warm? Stick a leg or arm out from under the sheets depending on the degree of cooling required. It’s reflexive, virtually automatic cooling.
@RedOak or remove a blanket…
@Kidsandliz except that solution isn’t as reflexive-automatic. And… spouse always seems to want more blankets.
I saw the title of this product before I saw the picture.
As a child of the 90s, I haven’t been this disappointed since Obama gave away the internet to the UN.
@dvermilion Obama did WHAT ?
@dvermilion Just the 90s? I’ve been a child of many decades.
I have had problems funding good sheets. I use 2 sets now, both 100% cotton. Bought microfiber and they are horrible, all shiny and slippery. How are these in comparison? More cotton like or more microfiber?
@Beruud I can’t afford them either.
@Beruud These are microfiber (spun polyester) and coolmax (oval thread polyester), so… polyester. Slightly less shiny, just as gross. To be fair, these are great for maximum warmth with minimum bulk, if you layer them on top or between two cotton sheets. I want this set, complete.
@ThunderChicken Sigh… old school Kathy.
@cinoclav A famous picture, and rightly so.
@cinoclav @ThunderChicken Looking back on this, can’t ignore this looks like has no right arm, and there is a hand escaping her butt. “Wicking” you say? The sweat is still there, But where does it go? I had a cyst once. They put a wick in that. It was not cooling…
So these are most likely nylon and polyester?
Pass.
BBF? What is that? Bed Bath & Frankfurters?
@Joedetroit Seems kind of obvious if you look at the link…
https://bedbathfashions.com/products/kathy-ireland-6-piece-cool-touch-ultra-soft-sheet-set?variant=29692162211885
@cinoclav “if you look at the link…” never heard of them. & I like my name better.
“microfiber.” that doesn’t tell anybody what fiber it is that’s being micro-ed. That always makes me feel like they are hiding something. Like saying a sweater is made of 100% yarn.
Between 820 and 822am and they all started to sell out. Good thing I needed full size.
I do love image search with the order names for weird things like this
Umm, NO. Once you go cotton, everything else feels rotten,
@MrNews what’s aside from cotton?
I didn’t know who is Kathy Ireland (and I’m a man), but it seemed like a good deal on nice sheets!
Even at the discount store they’re not much cheaper than this. And hey, whatsername!
/giphy I don’t believe you
Sheets woven from plastic that keep you cool? Seems totes legit.
…but I would buy sheets from Wanda Saknussemm…
@Pufferfishy Any relation to Arne? That guy left a note in a book I borrowed a while back.
@cadmore His daughter, actually!
https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0092532/
@Pufferfishy I was so hoping for a Music credit to Rick Wakeman. No such luck.
I can finally get rid of my sheets made of 19 one-dollar bills.

I’m offended they are not selling California King size.
Did I say that right? Get offended over stupid stuff? Just trying to keep up with the way to world is these days.
@EvilTuna Me as well. I was totally going to buy a set too!
Kathy Ireland on Larry Sanders! (starting @9:02)
“Whaddaya think of my shoes?”
Meh discussions are the only place I see “California King” mentioned.
Is there something about meh shoppers that need weird non-standard sized beds?
Do meh sleepers toss and turn more because they’re regretting all their crazy purchases?
@OnionSoup Cali King beds are actually 4 inches more narrow. They are longer for the tall folk.
https://www.tomorrowsleep.com/king-vs-california-king
@okthemighty interesting, so people who shop at meh sleep better than normal mortals. It’s normal mortals, not meh users, who roll around all night regretting their daily purchases.
@OnionSoup As far as I can tell this is correct. Hang on a sec, I will check…
Yep. Thats it.
No California King???
Should I purchase for the guest room when in-laws are visiting?
No cal king option
Hey meh it is @RedOak who made that comment you called out. I know about
catsmonsters under the bed. HA!How did my purchase of one set of sheets go from $19 +5 dollar shipping two $43?
Finally tried these out last night. Pros: The fitted sheet stayed put on my double sided queen pillow top all night, no corners popping off. They are adequately soft, and actually wicked away sweat.
