Just launched: Stores.com Cash
17Now that we’re Stores․com, we’ve launched Stores.com Cash, our devious plan to get you buying more stuff from us you may or may not need, but totally should get.
Every order on Meh, MorningSave, SideDeal, or, yes, Hammacher Schlemmer will now earn you 5% back in Stores․com Cash. And you can spend it at any of those stores within 30 days, just like actual money, albeit money that’s worth nothing anywhere else. Essentially, our already-pretty-great deals just got 5% cheaper for you, as long as you keep buying stuff. You can checkout any time you like but you can never leave.
Cool, huh? But here’s the thing - Stores․com Members actually get double that money back: 10% on every purchase. And Members get a whopping 365 days to spend it. And, yep, free shipping on everything. If you’re a Meh regular it’s pretty silly if you’re not a Stores․com Member, but we’re happy to keep taking in that sweet sweet shipping revenue.
Keep up with how much you’ve earned over at stores.com/cash, and check out some things you could spend your Stores․com Cash on. Get enough and you can find stuff you can get for free.
You should probably buy today’s Meh to see how it works, right? Meanwhile, let’s talk about it right here.

I did buy today’s Meh offer last night before you posted this. Do I get the 10% on it? Also where would we check to see it?
@Kyeh You can see your balance over at https://stores.com/cash and more details on that here: https://stores.com/account/stores-com-cash
@dave Oh, cool - thank you!
So I take it this means that if you’re a meh VMP you will earn 10% back on all your purchases across the board from stores.com? Does this replace the VMP coupon code? Do I get a choice of one or the other when I order?
And I noticed the conspicuous absence of casemates. Same question no rebate/no discount?
@chienfou Meh VMP earn 10% back and currently also have the VMP coupon code. I can’t speak to that forever being the case. (Also, I’m sure I have no idea what this VMP is you speak of.)
Casemates is not currently participating in Stores.com Cash - either for earning or redemption.
@dave
Thanks. That’s
awesomefantastic!WORKER BEES! HERCULES! TURKEY GREASE! AWESOME!
@chienfou There’s a nightmarish national patchwork of blue laws about discounting or incentivizing booze.
@chienfou @dave Likely we can’t use both the 10% off and the coupon code at the same time?
@Kidsandliz you earn Stores.com Cash at a 10% rate on new purchases, even if those were also discounted by a coupon code. Using it is more like a payment method on a later transaction so you can also use a coupon code then.
@snapster Thanks for clarifying that.
So I take it this is meh’s (stores) new marketing experiment is to see if 1+1 = 3 and will magically end up luring in to spend more (sort of the irk rules to buy/credits and price change)?
I still remember way back when when you were talking on here about your idea of changing what you were selling to every hour, wanted to know what we thought, and we mostly thought you were nuts (so as a focus group we crashed and burned
). That morphed, as we know now, into mehrathons. I miss the days you’d be on here thinking out loud. I found that interesting.
@Kidsandliz what crashed and burned is the open web community at large. Someday a smart counterculture within Gen Alpha or the next will figure out they want it again, like vinyl.
@Kidsandliz @snapster
And you’ll be there… waiting patiently!
So if we stayed up the cash we can get a free irk sometime huh
And on that 365 days for VMP members to spend their stores.com cash… is that a rolling calendar so older rewards expire if you don’t use it within a year or does it stay active as long as you add to it during that time?
@chienfou Each time you get Stores․com Cash it has a 365 day life. So at https://stores.com/account/stores-com-cash you’ll see different expirations for different batches of Stores․com Cash
@dave
Got it, thanks
@dave
So, if i become a member of stores.com and pay the $8.99 a month, will that replace my meh.com membership of $5.99 a month? Or does that automatically update if you’re a member? Also, it will get me access to all websites and free shipping, right? Plus all the other stuff you talked about? Just trying to clarify.
@Star2236 I’ve talked about some of this here:
https://meh.com/forum/topics/cost-of-membership#698b4da240d761fdb64eca45
The tl;dr is that all membership is for all stores and has the same benefits, and (VMP aside) all will be going to the same $8.99 price BUT with an option to change to an annual program that averages out to the same $5.99 monthly cost now.
@dave @Star2236 What does VMP aside mean? Checking here for that and KS.
@pooflady @Star2236 We are not currently making any pricing changes to VMP.
@dave Just a heads-up, on the stores.com site, there is a hamburger menu that contains a link to a dashboard. That link does not work.
@cengland0 Ah that’s for our affiliate partners. Thanks for the heads up.
What did stores.com do in its past life to get put on corporate network blacklists?
@walarney Maybe it is only temporarily on blacklists because it is a new site?
@walarney McAfee Web Gateway does not like it. “The proxy could not connect to the destination in time.”
i was just whining, but is being able to shop at work a legitimate concern for a web business? if i launched an ecommerce site, and it turned out my domain was blocked on a bunch of lists, that would be a pretty big goof, right? Probably it’s just my company (or Palo Alto) being overly aggressive, but kinda wondering now if that’s part of the process
I rarely, if ever, comment to the community, but I have to make an exception to THIS WONDERFUL FANTASTIC NEWS! MONEY BACK? YEAH!!!
@drraddan Well we could have just gotten a discount up front as that would mean the same amount of savings… however I think this new marketing scheme is to lure us in to spend more like people can end up doing with the irk “money back to lower the price” rules.
@drraddan @Kidsandliz
Absolutely. This market plan involves a certain (large?) amount of money that will ‘get left on the table’ especially on a 30 day revolving time frame.
@chienfou @drraddan or left on the table because of people who don’t know about the program. I’d imagine prices will go up 10% too because of it. No sane business is going to lose money.
@chienfou @drraddan @Kidsandliz the “30 day rolling timeframe” is 365 days for members. So, a reasonable length of time to use it. As someone used to say, it beats a sharp stick in the eye.
@accumulator
True. Which incentivizes annual membership even more.
As a current VMP I fall in the 365 category anyway.
@Kidsandliz
Actually that not necessarily the case. In the businesses I’ve owned I frequently used the “fast nickels versus slow dimes” algorithm for our pricing.
@chienfou I was more thinking of the posted behavior with mehrathons. People looking for that last thing to buy, that they likely would not have otherwise bought, so they get their irk cheaper.
@Kidsandliz
That was referring to this comment:
@chienfou The logic though for finding ways to cover “points”, “money” a customer gets back though is relevant. I am reasonably sure that for heavy items, where shipping is more than VMP or membership the price we pay, the price reflects at least some of that shipping. Of course they make money off of me in the long run as I have VMP but don’t order much.
So I am a member does this mean I shop at Stores site for everything
Do I need to set up a new account for stores?
No, that was covered earlier, above.
