When did the membership price increase from $5.99 to $8.99? When I am not signed in the price shows $8.99 on the main page, but when I sign in the price in my account shows $5.99?
@alexbboy
Yes, @chienfou, I should have made it more clear that I was answering about the “VMP” program (which I know something about) as opposed to the “Membership” program (of which I know nothing).
Yes, we have increased the price of membership to $8.99/month. We’ve also increased non-membership shipping to $9.99. And, yes, this increase is eventually going to come to existing (non-VMP) members. There’s no big secret here - our shipping costs go up every year, and eventually we have to catch up to years of inflation.
However, we are working on an annual plan, and right now we are aiming to set the cost of that annual plan so that the effective monthly cost stays at $5.99. So if you’re a long-term member, essentially there’s no cost increase. More details on that to come.
We are also looking at ways to expand the benefits, both in new places to shop, and potentially new ways to save. You’re welcome to speculate until we have all that ready to announce.
(No changes, or even the slightest non-parenthetical mention, for VMP, whatever that is.)
@dave …speculate… Meh will be releasing an AI powered Meh subject meh-tter expert. All answers will start with… Meh. Note that will be the entire answer. MehAI is powered by an ai built to model a dad who is are watching his team win, barely, and getting asked questions.
Meh will be sending an empty box to return the meh socks sent to vmp members many years ago. They will darn the holes and sent them back randomly to all current vmp members.
Meh will be cracking down on people who clap during movements in converts. Using things found in my past purchases list that fly.
In a brush with tradition, meh is partnering with Costco to relabel the kirkland tp and sell it on 1-April (with sales continuing until forever and then it’s gone). It will be a significant part of all future irks and when @dave went to bed early and forgot to hit the time for a new deal. Ie the new clock radio that does take poop from everyone.
In 1.3759% of all vmp irks, Vmps will be getting a random box of expired pasta. Note this will proceed in 5-10 years once the pasta is expired. But someone keeps making it for an unannounced company all hands company meal.
Meh releases secret random irk. Where you buy an irk for someone you know… Like the pasta drop of yesteryear.
Irk ‘bogos2syk’ where you buy one and get one sent to someone you know. With a printed sheet on the inside that’s says ‘wronkerville loves or hates you. See more meh at meh.’.
Some of us will be buying less now. My process has always been to analyze if 6 bucks shipping was worth it for the item I was thinking of buying. If it was, I signed up for a month and set a calendar reminder to cancel on the last day of membership. If another thing I wanted to buy came along, great. If not, I still felt like I got a good deal.
Since shipping is now 10 bucks and membership for a month is 9 this feels like an attempt push us to sign up for the membership and hope we forget to cancel. But since I never count on buying anything else during the month all it’s doing is tacking another 3 bucks on the price of everything.
I wonder if the play is to post more expensive items. 9 dollars shipping for a 150 dollar solar powered battery generator (or whatever those things are-too lazy to look it up) seems reasonable. And then once you’ve bought it you have “free” shipping on the hydration sticks or other little stuff and thus more likely to buy.
Of course none of this figures in the other sites. I check Meh every day and once in awhile if I remember a deal a week later and decide I want it after all I look on Sidedeal & Morningsave for it. If the whole group of shopping sites is a regular and important part of your life I guess the membership is still cheaper than Amazon Prime.
I don’t remember cancelling my VMP. So I was going to buy something and now it had shipping is how I found out. Probably lost it when I had to get a new credit card because I was worried about the old number. I’ve been trying to cut back on spending so without it and the high shipping costs, I don’t even go on meh every night now. So I guess I’m saving twice.
Must have ‘grandfathered’ it in for current members (at least for now). I know my VMP is “locked in”…
@chienfou yup

@chienfou @therealjrn good to know! Well that is kind of nice I guess, shame it jumped up $3 though, that’s a 50% increase
@alexbboy @therealjrn
While you’re correct about the VMP cost (which I mentioned) his question had to do with general (non-VMP) membership.
@alexbboy

I was trying to bolster your sharing about VMP.
I’m sorry about that.
@alexbboy @therealjrn
No biggie.
I gotta be truthful, I thought this thread was going to be spam to buy a Lincoln or something

@dave
Oh!
Well, since you had enough money to buy a StuperBowl ad, I imagine that leaves it WIDE OPEN to speculation!
@dave @therealjrn Hey we gotta afford that superbowl ad spend somehow!

Time for watching some orchestra!
@dave fine one more

Who is Wronkerville has he ever been a goat?
@dave @troy with ink for irks is shipping free with that or just the irk?
@dave @wronkerville Watch out. Meh might swipe a few of those ideas.
@dave @Kidsandliz the instructions said to speculate. All my ideas are golden… Golden poop is still gold.
Meh
@dave Raising shipping for non members $4 in insane. You guys are definitely making a bad call.
I do believe when I join it was under $5.00
