13Wow - I’m the first to receive?? Fancy!
All in all, not a bad IRK! Star of the show is the Vornado fan - this thing moves air! And I was thinking about buying a fan to cool down our breakfast nook, so timing was perfect.
I got:
- Forest Green IRK bag with pale yellow print
- Two light, summery shirts that my wife likes (although she’s worried that the pineapples might send the wrong message, lol)
- Two 3-pack stripy socks
- USB-A to Micro-USB cable (naver can have too many cables)
- Aforementioned Vornado fan. No box, but was new (still wrapped) & arrived in one piece.

Those unsimply stitched socks are really comfy.
@Star2236. I bought those and not only are they comfy, they’re also a fashion statement. I’ve worn them to the gym and I’m shocked at the number of compliments I get. And I’m a senior.
That’s what drives me to keep buying IRKs, to find the one that I want to have. Until I either run out of money or run out of space.

@psbales You could probably kick this one up a notch from a ‘huh’ to ‘yeah’. No condoms or trackers. And with something the wife could use especially if it was your choice to buy (happy wife, happy life.). You don’t get raked over the coals for buying something useless. Hey, it’s not luggage, but life is good.

I am so irked. First off, the box arrives with Kathy Ireland on it. The first words out of my mouth? “Great what did my wife by this time (out loud and in her range of hearing)”. Then, I see it’s my irk and immediately have to retract said previous statement. Opening…full of hot Texas air. Somehow, Cincinnati is as hot as Texas is and Meh figured out how to pack it in. Oh, there was an EMPTY suitcase (correction full of hot Texas air), a small (ahem I’m a L) women’s (double ahem I’m a man) shirt. On the bright side, my daughter is in need of a suitcase and this one will work fine. Oh, and I got a brown irked bag. I’m still irked though. Buyer beware…fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me. Fool me for like 10 years and I think I’m just a glutton for punishment.

@zippyus I got these same items as well. The earbuds don’t work as the led on the left one never lights up unless it is in the charger.

What a waste of money. I got a turkey roaster, a cheaply made medium shirt, and the meh tote bag. Best item is the tote.
I thought that I was just unlucky last time I got some gimick “exercise” device you stand on and it vibrates.

All in the eyes of the beholder. That exercise vibrating device is pretty costly and a turkey roaster is nice, especially when hosting Thanksgiving. But don’t buy anymore, just a better chance I’ll get something nice.
I am posting this as both a public service announcement and a reminder never again to buy an IRK/BOC. The 4 items I received (not including the tote): 1. A slimming bodysuit for a woman (size large); 2. An outlet adapter just for Switzerland; 3. A Gold eye mask; and 4. A USB-Micro USB cable.

I probably got 4 or 5 irks like that in a row (and not the first time that’s happened) Not every time are you gonna get a $200 piece of luggage.
@Star2236 It’s not like I haven’t gotten crap before, but this one is different as: 1. the price was exorbitant compared to the past; and 2. usually there’s a wider assortment of crap, so even though it’s largely crap, you can usually find some use for some of them. Here there were 4 minor items and I have no use for them. In particular, even though it’s a women’s large, there’s no way I can fit my man’s XXL body into that bodysuit. I suggested that my very tall, but slender, partner may find use for it and that did not go so well for me.
@trapuh this is EXACTLY what I got and I will never spend 30 bucks on one again. That was the most disappointing IRK I have ever received. Honestly I have never instantly regretted ever getting one before this one…guess I was due…
I’m ECSTATIC to announce that I’ve saved over $100 by NOT BUYING any of the previous 3 IRK’s!! Oh Happy Day!!

@rcwbbb absolutely. it was actually pretty funny, as I was not expecting to get anything of value, but I got home and saw this gigantic box at the door, and was trying to bring it inside along with the other stuff I had, and I tried to grab the box by the top, and it’s ripping and opening as I’m trying to drag it inside, and I’m cursing at it. The wife’s in the kitchen, just listening, and she’s like, what the hell is that? I proceed to open it, and she goes wow. That’s pretty good!

@werehatrack I am, but also I am not. I didn’t get anything for being a VMP for a fucking decade. I thought, maybe, maybe, that a magic ten years of being a sucker.
My past 3 IRKs have been absolute trash. Identical trash, too. Send someone all 1,000 eye masks, not 2 to 500 people. Or the same 50 people, 10 times.
I was a VMP mostly for the casemates. I stopped drinking. Alice doesn’t send me bottles to rat. There hasn’t been anything that seems remotely interesting to buy in months.
The gift exchange was a lot of fun. I like the community. But, I see a poop flair in my future and checking out for good.
I hoped there were good things. Also, not being inked myself, seeing that they appear to be sending the same shit boxes to those people solidifies my feeling that they look at the old timers as suckers, and not even a funny cute joking kind, but piss on our leg and tell us it is raining sucker.

@djslack My earbuds (same as yours) wasn’t empty. Looks unused as paper is still around the earbuds case (didn’t take it out of the inner box). If you want them I can send them to you.

I’m confused about where to post my birthday IRK reveal so I’m just going to drop it here
A large box dropped on my doorstep around noon today. My first thought was uh-oh.
It had a few bits and bobbles… a nice new bag, a knit beanie, some earbuds and a USB cable.
And the rest of the box was filled with a quite nice rolling suitcase. Which is actually perfect as my daughter is off to college in a month. I really wish it had been a calendar from 2010 because that’s where I want to be right now. Heh.

for anyone that got the JVC earbuds - anyone had luck getting them working? my left earbud does not have any blinking indicator, so I’m guessing it’s toast. still would like to be able to connect just the right earbud

@carl669 same thing here-- base unit is mostly charged, 2/3 leds, but only right earbud is lighting up in the charger, depite both having the protective plastic initially.
@caffeineguy i tried all the internet suggestions to no avail. ending up tossing them in the electronics recycle box. oh well.
@carl669 what IRKs me about this is that meh has this history of sending lithium battery powered junk that’s literally junk (and technically hazardous waste).
It’s probably cheaper to offload garbage batteries in IRKs than to actually be responsible for proper disposal
@carl669 Taking my multimeter to the charging dock shows each earbud receives 5V from the two pins. The pin closest to the earbud base is +5V, the pin other is 0V; The dock seems consistent. Applying 5V to the ‘working’ R earbud shows 16-20mA draw (already charged?), and with peaks up to 30mA, presumably flashing the LEDs. Applying the same 5V to the Left earbud shows only 9mA, and still no signs of life.
Removing the R earbud from the 5V source, aka removing it, wakes it up and it goes into pairing mode. Regardless, it seems that the L earbud’s battery has gone kaput or is in a self-destruct shutdown mode.
They do each have a push button. If one could access the actual battery cell and bypass the BMS, maybe it could be ‘woken up’
@caffeineguy you’ve taken this investigation MUCH farther than i have. i gave up and am now trying to steal back my samsung buds from my wife
@carl669 Yeah-- at the bottom of the photo is an orange component labeled F, which seems to be a fuse. It measured ~1.5V to the ‘ground’ pin of the charger dock. Since I’d all but given up on these things, I tried to force feed it 3V, 4V, and then 5V from my bench supply. It seemed to take about 90-100mA with voltage climbing slightly, and at least once I thought I saw the LED come on. Probably just a slip of my probe. Either the battery is kaput and the device can’t wake from external 5V, or it’s got an onboard low-voltage regulator (like a 3.3V LDO) that’s smoked. I was hoping force feeding the fuse ~3V would have been connected to the battery, but didn’t seem to be the case. It also seems that after sitting on my desk overnight, the formally fully-charged base case is now dead and charging again from scratch.
It certainly seems like the right earbud is a useless slave to the left master.
Side deal irk was the same as others, furry speaker, dog wipes, tracker, eye mask thing and orange bag, but my MEH irk had a orange bag, eye mask thing, tracker, dog wipes and furry speaker
I didn’t take a picture of my IRK! However, it arrived in a Sonos Arc SL shadow box. The box included the Sonos Arc w/o a power cord, a shirt, an Irk bag, and a USB micro charger cord.
I’m happy to report the Sonos Arc works great. However, I have been unable to link my Sonos One for surround sound. So - all in all - I would say it was a great haul! $1100 Sonos sound bar for $30 - not too bad of a return on investment!

@caffeineguy Like all the others, only my R-Gumy earbud shows signs of life. Probably why they’re all on meh. It seems the ‘left’ one is the one with the microphone, so maybe the master, and more consumption?
@caffeineguy my left one worked. Maybe if you get a couple, you can form a matching set? It kinda looks like they may pair by proximity with each other.
@brainmist Yeah, It seems like they can be re-joined together with some magic button holding. If your have a working L, but not the R; I’d be interested in at least covering postage from you, if nothing else would provide some answers on whether mix and match “Gumy” can reduce the number of these that get recycled.
@caffeineguy I’m down for that; I was considering trying to sell them but after reading the reviews, thought I’d better test first and :sad trombone:.
I have 3 sets now, so could save you some trouble by testing myself before sending. I’ve been doing a lot of magical button pushing (there’s a semi-helpful trouble shooting guide: https://manual3.jvckenwood.com/accessory/headphones/contents/ha-a7t/en/GOUMSYwtibohsn.php)
and have only succeeded in making the left no longer show up on my available bluetooth devices.
Both do charge and reset, and I did initially have sound coming from the left.

@jjc You will need to get the AirTags. The app is not available on iOS and is third party on android. Got the same except eye masks instead of gummys.
Your video is great. Your voice and enthusiasm are exemplary. When I got my pink speaker, I said wtf when I should have been grateful I received something that worked and wasn’t broken.
•Bondir R2 Pro Deep Tissue Percussive Massager - pretty nice score. I bought one last November; it’s very intense, not a soothing massage at all. I’ll give it to my brother who’s been having back trouble recently.
So presumably it won’t damage my skin when(if?) I clean my pores.

Previous couple IRKs burned me. I’m a pretty stereotypical guy and all I got in the past two was women’s cosmetics, women’s clothes, and one mini-USB cable.
I’m lazy, C) I already have a knife and cutting board and I believe in using/gaining skills where I can, and D) I’m more cheap than I am lazy. I cook almost exclusively in bulk so prepping veggies takes forever if I’m doing 4 gallons’ worth of soup fixin’s, even if you’re just doing a rough chop

I finally got my IRK Box. A t-shirt (medium), a micro-USB charging cable, a black misting fan (I got a two pack of the same fan a few months ago and gave one away, fan isn’t bad but doesn’t hold a long charge), a twin sized mattress protector (I don’t have a twin mattress), and a meh bag. Pretty regrettable for me at least.
