@mfladd@mike808 It is “right”. I used to take people camping (Outward Bound, college outdoor programs) for a living and total have probably spent 5 or so years of my life living in a tent via my job. Moisture comes in via the thread holes in the seams. Some of the really expensive tents come already with seam seal applied. The rest of us cheapskates have to apply it ourselves.
@CaptAmehrican@mfladd Pfffft. Post 'em if you got 'em. It is Possible that People may have Plans and could be Preoccupied this weekend, so Advance Notice is Good.
3. We'll drop the price of one shirt to $0 at checkout.
4. It's only for Prime Members.
5. It's only this weekend: June 30 - July 1, 2018.
Heyyyy, put a shirt on! Put two shirts on! Put two on, for the price of one! All this weekend, if you're a Prime customer, then you can take advantage of this Prime-exclusive offer. Restrictions and fine print:
•Offer valid for Prime members with a mailing address in the contiguous United States.
• You must log in with a valid Amazon Prime account.
• You must add both Shirt.Woot shirts to your cart.
•Discount applied at checkout.
•Discount applied to the lowest-priced shirt in your shopping cart.
•Valid only on t-shirt offers within Shirt.Woot. Canvases, journals, clocks, and other non-t-shirt offers are not eligible.
• "BOGO" is short for Buy One Get One. It's fun to say "BOGO. Say it with us: "BOGO."
Walmart and Amazon both have the Nikko Air Elite 115 race set for $14.97. the set includes a micro drone (115mm diagonal span), controller, and a set of gates and flags to build a race course.
This drone is not FPV like the bigger Nikko from May’s deals thread but it does include Nikko (easy) mode, auto leveling mode, and full acro flight modes just like its big brother. It is also betaflight compatible and also should include the ability to download the very nice DRL Simulator and use the drone controller to fly on the computer for free.
BTW, just noticed the Sphero R2-D2 is the same price on Amz.
Also, the Force Band is $15. I don’t know if that’s a good price but it was cheap enough to impulse add to my order. Also available from “fulfilled by Amz” seller for the same price, no tax.
There’s also a “used like new” R2-D2 in Amz Warehouse for $44 if you wanna save $6.
@ruouttaurmind I have them both but haven’t taken the black one out of the box. They make different noises but probably not much else. I think they have different responses to the movies though- need to try that out.
The black B.B. unit has lights in its head and bb-08 doesn’t.
@sammydog01 I just ordered R2-D2 from Amz because nostalgia. Harkens back to our youth, watching Star Wars as little kids. Also because Amz has it with free same day shipping. I’m sure he’ll like it.
The force band will be delivered Thursday. I’m unclear how that’s Prime 2 day shipping though. Must be Amazon math.
I’m pretty sure that’s the case, but possibly for Prime members who don’t have Audible membership?? I seem to recall I could still purchase Audible Daily Deal once I let my Audible membership lapse. Or maybe I’m making that up.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@sammydog01 I’m really going to regret not getting this for my nephew. His birthday is coming up and I’ve got nothing in mind right now.
It’s just that he’s really, really into Batman and doesn’t care much about the web slinger. I’m not sure if Spidey’s interactive modes can overcome the fact that it’s not Batman.
@compunaut He’s very into Lego, and has many thousands of bricks. That’s kind of my brother’s go-to thing. Every b-day or Christmas is accompanied by Legos.
And I agree withSabre99. If you were ever interested in Legos, you will always be interested in Legos.
I haven’t fussed with them myself in years, but I kinda want to get one of the Technic sets. Either the Porsche or the VW T1. Maybe the Supercar kit. Or the Bugatti… Ok, so just about any of the Lego Technic kits I guess.
WTF (Woot's Totally Fun-tastic) Pricing is a way for us to give you a chance at a ridiculous price on a specific deal without losing our shirts. It’s a simple as that. So here's how it works:
1. Go to this page. (Deal will appear "Sold Out" until #2 below).
2. At precisely 4pm CT on Tuesday, July 3, we will launch the deal with a price of $1. Click on the deal, and try to get it. There are just a few at this price.
3. If you don’t get the deal for $1, then click back to the page and wait to refresh your browser at the next launch time. If you're on the Woot! app, then click back to the main "Featured" deals tab at the top, and click the WTF banner again to refresh the page.
4. At precisely 4:10pm CT, we will launch the deal with a price of $2.50. Again, there are just a few at this price.
5. Repeat Step #3.
6. At precisely 4:20pm CT, we will launch the deal with a price of $4.
7. Repeat Step #3.
We think you get the idea. Every 10 minutes we will keep raising the price in increments, eventually landing on the final Woot price of $9.99 (which is still a great deal). So, if you don't wanna play, you can wait for about an hour and get the deal at $9.99, until the deal ends at 5pm CT (if it hasn't sold out yet at the lower prices). But if you're feeling lucky, have some time to kill, and like hitting F5, then let's do this. GOOD LUCK!
Also, let’s set some expectations so you don't get mad:
• WTF Pricing is for this one offer only.
•When you click on the offer, you might be ushered into Woot's Vestibule of Patience, the queue of customers who are trying to order.From there, you'll either be taken to the checkout page, or our servers will hiccup and kick you out to Woot's main page.
•There are only a few quantities at each price point. Each level will sell out really quickly. Most likely you're not going to get one for $1. Or $2.50. BUT YOU NEVER KNOW.
• You may get a message that your order has been denied or canceled. This just means that we ran out of inventory at that price before we could complete your order. Most likely this is going to happen, so just be ready for the disappointment.
And hey, if you ARE lucky enough to get the deal at one of the crazy-low prices, post about it in the thread below, or on social media, so other Wooters don't think this is some bait and switch deal. We can say it's not, but the internet never believes anyone. Help a Woot out, OK?
@mfladd@RiotDemon It would be one thing if it was a $300 robot vacuum or something, but for a SD card which is often on sale for around $10? I got too much else going on in my life to play this.
@sammydog01 Fair point. But the bloom quickly fades when quantities are so limited there’s very little chance to get the item being chased. It’s proportionate. As I suggested, the higher the value of the quarry, the more thrill delivered by the chase. Even an unsuccessful chase, in my case. Fun to have played, even if not won.
@sammydog01 What @ruouttaurmind said. And for me, it’s simply not enough savings to justify that chase, especially since I have several extras (and extra 64gb cards) already.
In early preparation for Prime Day, Amz is offering 20% off your purchase (limited to “sold by Amazon” items) when you pay for a portion of your purchase with American Express reward points. Maximum benefit is $100 discount.
You must activate the offer:
Link your AMEX rewards account to your Amz account
Make a special note of this fine print in the offer details: This promotion starts at 12:00 am PST on July 2nd, 2018 and ends when Amazon elects to end the promotion. In other words, don’t let the grass grow under your feet. Use it or risk loosing it.
Kindle Unlimited 3 mos for $1 or 1 or 2 year subscription for 40% off with code PDKU18
Amazon Music Unlimited 4 mos for $1
Buy any Kindle book for $5 or more, get a $10 future credit for Kindle, print or audiobook purchase
Free PC game every day (via Twitch) until 7/18
$20 off Prime Now purchase with code 20PRIMENOW ($10 off 2 orders)
$35 bonus credit (plus appraised value) to trade up to Fire TV 4K or Fire TV Cube (only 3rd party devices are eligible; I can’t trade in my Fire TV Stick for example)
@ACraigL@ruouttaurmind Been a while since I signed up for this, but my recollection:
Yes, I think you sign up for Twitch & somehow link your Amazon acct (so they know you’re Prime); that unlocks a menu for the free game(s) available.
I signed up cuz they were (may still be) offering free games (and game-related content) during the first several days of every month. Don’t have too much time for gaming these days, but I’ve selected 5 or 6 for free. Note: game usage is a bit like Steam - launched via Twitch app (which tracks what items ‘belong’ to you), so I don’t think you can play unless there’s an internet connection available.
Hope Box free at Penzeys- it includes a big bottle of vanilla! Free shipping limit is $20. Don’t tell the conservatives- apparently they like to mess up the website.
@sammydog01 The website was hosed earlier, but they reset it and all is well. This Hope Box is a very good deal. I just finished buying many countertop 3 -tier spice shelves to display everything. If they’re in a cabinet, they get lost.
@OldCatLady Free is always a good deal. I went to the store here and picked up some chicken taco seasoning too. Now I’ll probably get hooked on that crazy expensive vanilla too. Darn you Bill.
I love the way it smells. I went to the website and ordered up a case of it. I don’t know if it’s clearance or what but it’s $2.75 (regular $6.50) a bottle. Since I usually get my soap from Dollar Tree, I don’t know how to act.
Warm & welcoming with a blend of golden cognac, ground nutmeg, and fresh cream
@sammydog01@therealjrn add code TW5S2J for 25% off your entire order (at least online). To get my shipping’s worth I got some of this soap and a couple other ones at the same price, a manlyish gray and leather car air freshener for my new ride, and some wallflower refills to feed my wife’s addiction in scents that I think we’ll both like.
Google Express (similar to Amazon) is offering 25% Off (Max $100 Discount) when you apply promo code EXTRA25 during checkout. Shipping is free on orders of $35 or more.
I’ve ordered from Google a couple times to take advantage of their promotion discounts. But generally speaking, the prices there are higher than visiting participating merchant websites directly. A handful major retailers participate, including Target, Walmart, Fry’s Electronics, Walgreens, Kohl’s, Home Depot, Costco, etc.
Even @therealjrn’s new vice Bed Bath & Beyond (psssst! Use this discount to try some other products)
I’ve considered buying from them in the past, especially since I could get $10 off my first purchase, but I can save more money by buying discounted gift cards, and using them in their respective stores.
The terms and conditions for this offer specifically stated it was available through July 17. But Google quietly killed the offer prematurely. Boo Google, boo.
For what likely is a very limited time, Walmart is offering two Google Home Minis for $48 and free shipping or in-store pickup (choose in=store pickup for the best chance to avoid having your order cancelled).
Here’s how (works as of 10:30AM CT):
Visit the product page linky above: do not go to Walmart and choose the Home Mini Two-Pack
Scroll down the page just below the product description; find “Buy Together & Save” (see pic)
Select “Add All to Cart”
Enjoy the security and comfort of knowing Bif Brother is now hanging on your every word.
@mfladd I bought one last year. It can’t hook up to another speaker so that kind of killed it for me- I was hoping I could use it for all the free google play music I’ve been collecting. I gave it to my mom and she asks for Bach and bedtime stories so I’m glad I picked it up. But my answer is no, you don’t want one.
@mfladd After Christmas my local Walmart had a package with a Nest E thermostat and a Google Home Mini for $85. I hadn’t planned to get the thermostat, but I impulse bought the deal (and I love the thermostat, after I got around to installing it a couple of months later).
Anyway, I’ve got an Amazon Echo and some Dots and decided having the Google Home Mini would just confuse me, trying to remember who I was talking to, so I gave it to my brother.
I’ve played with my other brother’s Google Home when I’ve visited him, and I’ve used Google Assistant on my phone (and now in my car).
Google Assistant is better at answering questions (but not in the car), which isn’t surprising. Alexa is better at Smart Home integration.
I just don’t think I need both. I can pick up my phone if I need to ask Google something.
@ruouttaurmind@sammydog01 Ya, I use Alexa for timers, weather, cooking ratios, math, but most importantly - shopping list - since I have no memory. What was I talking about? Oh well.
@mfladd The original deal is gone now, but if you’re just curious about comparing Google Home to Alexa, you can order one via Google Express. Walmart has them for $34.99, less the Google Express 25% off discount code = $26. Pad your order with a one penny item to break the minimum for free shipping.
@ruouttaurmind Thought about it, and I am going to pass. Between all the car repair, camping, and kayak shit I have purchased in the last month - Me Gotz No Moneys
One cool thing I did get was this canoe loader. The kids can’t help me load/unload the canoe on the top of the car and it is not light.
Haven’t tried it out with peashooter yet. Need to get the roof done.
eBay is offering 10% off “all tech” (whatever that means) with discount code PRIMOTECH on checkout. Minimum purchase is $50, max discount is $100. Through 11PM PT.
I have a 15% off referral code for the Google Pixel 2 when bought through the Google Store. Whisper me if interested. I also have a $20 Project Fi referral code if you’re making the switch.
No confusing equipment to deal with–all hardware is located remotely from your location–if you can dial a phone or send a text; you can use our service!
Sure! Just call our service and one of our highly trained English-speaking operators will provide a high-quality narration of the show! That’s BETTER than closed captions!
@PlacidPenguin@sammydog01 No, no, no. You do not come to my home. There is no need, and for security reasons, you may be shot on sight. Just use the handy-dandy contact form.
@sammydog01 I’ve been on the fence about this too. I have the AMEX 20% off discount available which would bring my final price down to $104.
I personally have no use for them, but am considering one as a gift. I just don’t know if there’s $100 value in that device. The “show” bit really seems to have limited usefulness outside of watching Prime Video.
@sammydog01 I feel the same thing about my Fire TV Stick. When I first got it, I could do Vudu, MoviesAnywhere, UltraViolet, YouTube… even Google movies. Now I have to merge my Google, UV, Vudu and MoviesAnywhere libraries, and even still many titles in my library aren’t available on the Fire TV Stick.
@sammydog01 Maybe this will tip the scale for you. Echo Show Refurb for $110. I’m paying with AMEX, using at least $1 in points to save an additional 20% for a pre-tax price of $88. Full warranty, guaranteed to work and look like new. Only a $20 less than the brand new one, but why throw away an extra $20 when I don’t have to.
So… This is for my brother’s birthday. But last week I ordered that Spero R2 for my brother’s birthday. Apparently my Sphero minion army will be starting sooner than planned with R2-D2.
Amazon Prime Members: get $10 on Amazon for Prime Day when you make a single purchase of $10 or more in Whole Paycheck Foods between 7/11-7/17 and scan your Prime Code or use your linked mobile number at checkout.
@f00l after much digging through the Amazon app I determined that you have to get the whole foods app to get the code to scan. Or you can just use the phone number Amazon has associated with your Prime account.
@ruouttaurmind As it is, they don’t even allow checking out with more than 10 sellers at one time. Multiple codes? That seems like an even lesser chance.
Starting in July, McDonald’s is offering free french fries every Friday through the end of the year. All you have to do is make a purchase of at least $1, and you’ll be rolling in the crispy, salty starch sticks. (As long as you’re capable of rolling in the number of fries that come in a medium order.)
The nation’s second-best fast-food french fries can be attained by downloading the McDonald’s mobile app and registering for a free account. The app has been loaded with all kinds of deals – not dissimilar to the kind of deals you find on the Wendy’s app – that will help you make the most of your trip to the Golden Arches. Other deals include a free medium soda with a $1 purchase or free hash browns with the purchase of a breakfast sandwich.
Also while you are there (eg clicking on my link) log into your account and check your address and phone. Someone had gone in and changed both of those to something not mine, but oddly left my email address and password alone. I am thinking they were trying to order something using my account and credit card without me being alerted by a password change, have it sent to them instead of me, but the joke was on them since I don’t keep my credit card information online unless I am forced to. Reported it to Petco and changed my information back to me and then changed my password.
Currently $124 to $152. Depending on options chosen.
While not waterproof, this is a really nice e-reader.
Amazon did have a brief flash sale on the 9th (and current) gen (waterproof) Kindle Oasis. They may will discount this current versions again over Prime Day, if that is your preference.
To see the current generation (not on sale at the instant of my past), go here:
@communist@PlacidPenguin I own this (in white). Fantastic phone. Midrage features combined with flagship level performance. No complaints from me. Of course, now that Essential is shuttered, we’ll see if my story changes with the next couple OS updates. But still, for the price I paid, I’ll be satisfied if I can get a few years out of it.
So far, Prime Day is a spectacular flop. Trying to access the list of deals on their website results in a blank page, with only the Prime Day banner displaying. App isn’t working any better. WTG, Amazon! Puff up an event, then bellyflop when you hit the water.
@ruouttaurmind WTF. I cancelled the order saying I had to change payment type, and now amazon is all wonky and I can’t proceed to checkout. My cart totals keep changing. When I hit proceed to checkout it keeps sending back into saved for later
@mfladd Have they already charged your AMEX? If no, then they’ll cancel the transaction like it never occurred.
BTW, I never use all my AMEX points. I’ll always leave a few dollars worth in the account exactly for this sort of occasion. These Amz/AMEX offers are common, so I always want to be able to have the option if I choose.
Last offer I used was 30% off for AMEX points about three weeks ago. So be sure to leave a few bucks in there!
@ruouttaurmind Future reference: If you cancel something you bought with points it takes 4-6 days to get them back. Spoke to customer service when they didn’t show up right away. Still saved a ton of money with Amex deal activation.
@mfladd Sry about that. I guess you can still apply the points as an account credit at AmericanExpress.com and it will be the same net effect.
I’m selfishly hoarding my AMEX discount offer, looking for just the right thing(s) to use it on. Was considering Xbox One X, PS4 Pro, Ninty Switch, various tools, a plasma cutter… too bad Amz doesn’t sell HVAC systems.
putting a micro sd card into the copter would be pointless
But can’t you still initiate video recording directly from the controller? That’s how I did video recording for a couple years before I had my first FPV configuration. And still how I do much of my recording.
@sammydog01 It’s looking like Best Buy is all out of Sphero R2-D2, and only have R2-Q5 left in stock. I haven’t opened D2 yet, but I’m contemplating getting him a nemesis Q5 while they’re still in stock. I don’t think they’ll make it down to $30.
Audible promotional offer: Use book 2 credits, receive a $5 account credit. Use 3 book credits, receive a $10 account credit. Offer available until 7/18 and is available for current members only. (that’s TODAY only kiddies)
If you have any credits banked up, now’s the time to grab a few items from your wish list and cash in.
@f00l Me too. In case you missed the convoluted terms of the offer… within a few days they’re going to email a redemption code for a coupon. You have to execute the redemption code within 30 days of them sending the email. Then you will be issued a coupon code. You have to use the coupon code within 30 days of receiving it.
Kinda weaselly way to handle it. I mean, just issue a $10 credit to my account and be done. Even if the credit expires in 30 days… but whatevs.
Microsoft is offering a 12mos Xbox Live Gold subscription for $40 (normally $60). IIRC, you can stack up to 3 years of prepaid Xbox Live Gold subs, so if you’re feeling wealthy, grab three. I just tested, and MS let me get to the last step of the purchase process for additionals, so it looks like they’re not limiting you to one offer per customer.
@ruouttaurmind Hmmm…Gift price is still $59.99. (wanted to gift to my nephew) Seems they want to lock you into an auto-renewable subscription.
“By selecting Subscribe, you agree to the Store Terms of Sale. We’ll charge you $39.99 plus applicable taxes for the first year and $59.99 plus applicable taxes every year after that. You’ll be notified before any future price changes. Cancel any time”
It seems like it would let me subscribe as of today, but I doubt you could do any stacking… I only have like 2 months left on my pre-paid 12-month gold card.
@medz A week ago I registered a 3mos card I bought on eBay. When I purchased the one year today, it’s now showing a 14 mos expiration date. So it stacked at least that one year on top of my existing subscription.
I mentioned above, the MS store let me get to the final stage of purchasing another year, so I’m thinking you can probably stack at least one more year. I bailed out since I don’t want to commit to that much time.
EDIT: BTW, immediately after receiving the email confirmation of my 1 year purchase, I went to my subscription options and turned off auto-renew.
The Brilliance Audio online bookstore audiobookstand.com is closing down. They are offering thousands of titles, all clearance priced, with many hundreds of titles offered at $4 with free shipping.
These are distributed on CD, so if you want to listen from a phone, etc, you’ll need to rip them using a computer. If you’re a car commute listener like me, just dust off your CD player and use that.
I received my books on cd order last night. Only 2 on CD, the others are MP3-CD. I was hoping the MP3-CDs would play in my car CD player, but no joy. They do play in my truck though. Both are stock GM equipment, and the truck is 8 years older than the car. I guess GM decided it wasn’t a popular feature and dropped it from newer models.
Anyway, the merch is as described. All new, sealed, appears 100% genuine.
Misfit Swarovski fitness trackers are on sale for $9.99 and the coupon SUMMERON is good for an extra 30% off (that may be an error). I love these things if only for the rainbows they make on the roof of my car when it’s sunny. Sooooo sparkly. https://misfit.com/summer-sale-2018
Solar powered lanterns that really are bright, half price today. I have the Luci Outdoor and the Luci Lux Mobile Charging (USB charger and lantern in one). Limited to 20 per person. They also have a ‘BYOL-Build Your Own Luci Solar STEM Kit’, which looks awesome. Hurricane season is upon us, and I am tired of stockpiling batteries. The ones I have last at least 6 hours on ‘high’ which is very bright indeed.
ALL Shirt.woot catalog shirts are $15 dollars today! That’s $4 off normal pricing, so if you missed out on the 40% off deal yesterday, this is a decent consolation.
Penzey’s is giving away Quebec seasoning with a $5 purchase because Canadians are nice and cinnamon sugar with no purchase because they love children. I ordered online because it’s raining and spent $14 for the freebies and 3 little bottles of on sale barbecue seasoning. Plus they seem to toss in freebies and stickers when they ship. Gonna make some snickerdoodles!
@lisaviolet@ruouttaurmind this cool box of boxes is $10 (normally 39.99) at Michaels. With competition match coupon of $10 of $10 from Joann, cost me .64. If you have any % off sale items, it should work also.
@mikibell I went in yesterday with a 40% off all plastic storage coupon from Joann and was told they don’t honor coupons for a percent “off your whole purchase” anymore, and as a matter of fact Saturday was the last day for that.
One if their competitor coupon clauses is that all standard coupon restrictions apply, and one of their standard coupon restrictions is that percent off coupons are off regular ticketed price. So technically by the rules, they should have taken the coupon but then it would negate the 40% off sale they were already having (even though the Joann coupon specified 40% off sale prices). If I wanted to push it I might be able to, but I’ll not rock the boat now.
I will remember and bring Joann’s coupons next time and try again, though, and be able to push harder knowing the exact policy.
I had, in fact, reviewed the policy the night before because I’ve never taken a competitor coupon there. Where the clerk stopped me in my tracks was in saying that the policy had changed that very day.
@djslack@mikibell I was just in Michael’s this afternoon. I used the online phone coupon for 50% off, then the mailer coupon for 40%, and used the mailer again, because they kindly rang my stuff as 3 separate purchases. Their site still says they accept all competitor coupons, EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.
@djslack I am sorry…they annoy me with their coupon policy. I have on a few occasions just left the items on the counter and walked out. Whereas, Joann’s liberal coupon policy has me shopping at their store so much that my family could use receipt paper as a month’s supply of tp!
@ruouttaurmind@sammydog01 great price on a good machine. It’s not the DUO60 but it should still be a versatile cooker. One thing I noticed is missing versus the one I have is yogurt mode, but that’s probably not a deal breaker for most.
I’d be interested if I didn’t already have one, so my vote is yes, you should be interested.
I must defer to @djslack and @mfladd and everyone else for their expertise. I do not own one and don’t really have any desire to. I already have too many kitchen appliances and not enough counter, cabinet and shelf space.
@ruouttaurmind Wait…you don’t have room in the house for an air fryer, but you have room for an instapot? I think this might be a case of kitchen gadget bias!
@mfladd Nope, I didn’t get that one either. Just passed along the deal. I have so many NIB kitchen appliances I could open my own store. 4 or 5 roasters, 3 steamers, a processor, 2 stand mixers, last count it was 6 slow cookers, 3 vacuum sealers, electric can opener, 2 toaster ovens, 4 toasters, a juicer, 3 varieties of Ninja blenders, 2 electric griddles… the list goes on and on.
Oh, and I can’t even start on list of dishes, utensils, and cookware.
4 or 5 roasters, 3 steamers, a processor, 2 stand mixers, last count it was 6 slow cookers, 3 vacuum sealers, electric can opener, 2 toaster ovens, 4 toasters, a juicer, 3 varieties of Ninja blenders, 2 electric griddles
@ruouttaurmind You planning to open a restaurant? Preparing for the apocalypse in case there is still electricity? Stockpiling future christmas presents for family? Feeding a family of 63?
Preparing for the apocalypse in case there is still electricity?
Well what kind of prepper would I be if I didn’t have a kerosene/propane generator and plenty of fuel?
So in my area there are a fistful of Native American casinos. In the past I’ve mentioned in various threads about how these all have incentives and reward programs to entice players to choose their casino over the others. One of the most popular incentives is to give gifts and free slot machine play to entice players in the door. So I frequently take advantage of these offers. Oddly though, 80% of the gifts are kitchen appliances, dishes and cookware.
So over the last few years I’ve accumulated quite a collection. I’ve had to begin the practice of donating most of the items as I acquire them. They don’t even get into the house. From the casino to the car, then dropped off at different charity shops near my office.
Occasionally I’ll receive something more interesting. Last weekend it was a pair of Bolle shades at one place, then a decent socket set at another. Wristwatches, purses and wallets, occasionally electronics or tools… sometimes even cases of beer or bottles of wine.
Oh, and BTW, it’s exceedingly rare for me to actually play any of my own money. Typically I’ll use the free slot play and play video poker. Sometimes for hours, just jacking up my points and eventually increasing the value of the offers. Once I’ve reached a point level I’m satisfied with, I cash out the poker proceeds and either run for the door, or start to play just for fun. If I stay on to play for fun I don’t often play any more than I won at the video poker game.
@ruouttaurmind Well I have an Aladdin kerosene lamp - about 100 watts - with an electric attachment too. New in box. Bought it when I worked in NW Ontario with no electricity and I got tired of a billion hours of darkness every day. Trouble was it arrived well after winter and I have not used it. Wanna buy it for your bunker?
You planning to open a restaurant? Preparing for the apocalypse in case there is still electricity?
Inspiration can come from the most unexpected places… I have the dishes, cookware and the appliances… I’ll open the only all-night diner in the apocalypse!
@ruouttaurmind Tisk tisk - you are an unprepared survivalist with no bunker. All your excess supplies will just go up in flames. One problem though with the restaurant idea. You haven’t started to stockpile the food needed unless they can only eat there if they bring their own food and you cook it for them.
hey all, is this a good deal??? I don’t dabble in apple products, but the kid has asked for this because the apps her school uses are primarily developed for icrap.
She will use it to access her calendar, books and other school related apps (no clue). https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00M4L4I9W/ref=tsm_1_fb_lk
I’ll let someone who knows more about Apple specifically chime in about EOL for this product. I’d consider the iPad 2 obsolete at this point but I don’t know about actual support/updates for either of them. I know that Apple itself does not have any refurbished iPad air models in its outlet anymore but that could just mean they are sold out.
@djslack thank you… the kid knows I am not really crazy about being locked into itunes, so she searched the cheapest price she could find without regard to support levels and such.
@djslack@mikibell I agree with @djslack. I am not an apple fan, but I use an iPad for work. I have gone thru all of them, and even at this price point I would be very hesitant of this deal. The air is the better unit (I currently have the air 2). I consider the iPad 2 to be VERY outdated tech.
That said, what your daughter would be asking of it sounds very minimal and could work on the cheap. Just don’t expect much of it beyond that.
You could get a refurbed 32gb air 2 from apple, but it will set you back $289 +tax. https://www.apple.com/shop/browse/home/specialdeals/ipad/ipad_air_2
@djslack@mfladd thank you!! I sent her the gold ipad air 2… told her, not sure I can afford it, but would that work… Finishing up this year’s taxes, might be able to swing it.
@djslack@mikibell Nice! At least she will be able to have it throughout most, if not all, of her school years. More money spent at the moment, but that iPad 2 probably would have cost you more in the end to replace, sooner probably, than later.
@mikibell It’s a done deal then? Last month I sent Mom a iPad 9.7 32GB (latest version). Purchased on eBay, used like new with 8mos. Apple warranty remaining. Cost was $225 and free shipping. If you haven’t committed to your purchase yet, or if you can cancel the order, consider shopping eBay and Swappa first?
This means it’s not an Apple factory refurb. Most likely these are used, third party “refurbished” which usually means wiped off with a cleaning cloth, reset to factory default, then bundled with an aftermarket cable and wall plug. For $40 more you can pick up a brand new iPad 9.7 at all the usual suspects (BB, WM, Target, etc). Only 32GB, but brand new model with 1 year warranty and the option to add another year of AppleCare for a 2 year warranty which covers accidental damage as well as equipment failure, plus free phone support.
@ruouttaurmind Yup, didn’t notice that (it was late). That’s a no go with the warranty. I would want apple refurb also. I really don’t trust 3rd party refurbs for something like this.
@mfladd@ruouttaurmind I appreciate the recommendations – woot also has a macbook for sale today – basically, a macbook is a chromebook? Ipad air is like a samsung tab?? Macbook would be overkill, yes?
(I feel very stupid in this conversation!!)
@mfladd@mikibell@ruouttaurmind My kid needed a computer for school and I would have gotten him a chromebook except they required memory which he has never used since all their work is on Google docs. “Budget” is not a concept they understand. Unless you need a touchscreen a chromebook would probably be fine. You probably need a better understanding of exactly what it would be used for. And he keeps breaking it so cheap is better.
Also small might be better so it fits on the desk. And in computers small means more expensive.
I mean, there are are decent Chromebooks with touchscreens, although if you have a budget, you’d need to get a good deal on one.
Recently, for instance, there were sellers on eBay listing the Chromebook Plus for less than $200, and with Android app support, they’re even nicer.
(Official Linux support is coming to stable Chrome OS, though I don’t know how relevant that is. On the bright side, Steam doesn’t really work with it, so you wouldn’t need to worry about distractions.)
Naturally this is all irrelevant if you’re pretty much forced to buy an iDevice.
@PlacidPenguin I think her daughter wanted the ipad and the school recommended a chromebook or laptop. Personally I would buy the cheapest thing possible to take to school and save up for something better for home. Stuff at school takes quite a beating. Plus you will need a bluetooth keyboard for an ipad if she’s writing assignments on it.
@mikibell So in reviewing your original post at the top of this thread, I guess I overlooked the “iCrap” bit. It’s important to know if it’s iCrap mobile (iOS; iPhone, iPad) or iCrap desktop/notebook (MacOS; Mac). They are NOT interchangeable, and committing to the wrong platform won’t really satisfy the kid’s needs. Or worse, will accomplish nothing.
@OldCatLady suggested contacting the school and getting some additional deets on system requirements. This is an excellent suggestion to avoid piling money into a solution that solves nothing. Probably the information is available online somewhere as well.
Shame I had to enable Developer Mode to be able to sideload apps on my Chromebook Plus. I normally probably would not have, but it was the only way for me to install a particular app which wasn’t on the Play Store.
Although I will say that offline use is not so bad anymore for Chromebooks.
Though that may be because I have a different file explorer app (as opposed to Files), and am using a different set of document editing apps as opposed to what Google offers.
@ruouttaurmind sold out… So the disparity is between the adminstration who recommends android and the teachers who require apps avail only on itunes. If they all got their crap together, my quest would be easier!! but I think someone would need to teach them how to spell technology first!!
@ruouttaurmind@sammydog01 they use like a jeopardy app (I should know the name, but it is funky - like squiggle or squirtle (I know that is Pokemon)), a history app, math apps, something about their sports too, as well as the school has all books avail electronically. I get a list on first day of school.
@mikibell@ruouttaurmind Does she have a phone? I bet most of the kids are using phones for those apps. At parent’s night one year we had to pull out our phones for something like that.
I had to buy an on-line book for my son last year which killed me because we had the actual book left over from my daughter. He used it on a laptop. I’m pretty sure you can use them on a laptop or chromebook.
My guess is that they expect the kids to have a smartphone and a laptop or chromebook.
Tablets are nice for some things but in the long run a laptop or chromebook will be more useful. Maybe wait until school starts? And those old ipads are sloooooow.
I was bitching last year because my school required a laptop and the recommended ones started at a thousand bucks. Turns out a two hundred buck chromebook would have served the purpose. I bought a laptop for $450 which he broke twice. Thank goodness the warranties don’t ask questions.
Tons of mehrific stuff to choose from at deep discounts. Categories include toys, home accessories, cell phone accessories and lots more. I tested the free shipping code, and was able to order a $0.59 key chain and it did, indeed, ship for free.
@mfladd Nah. For real? You must not have any teenage kids, or you live in one of the 19 states that doesn’t have them. One of the few retailers with a full selection of Vans shoes. Years ago they were marketing themselves as “the hip hop urban outfitters” but they’ve since repositioned as a mainstream retailer.
Tillys is a leading specialty retailer of casual apparel, footwear and accessories for young men, young women, boys and girls with an extensive assortment of iconic global, emerging, and proprietary brands rooted in an active and social lifestyle
@mfladd@sammydog01@therealjrn Fortunately you don’t have to live in one of the 31 states where they have locations to order silly crap from their website.
The Echo Spot and Echo Show can display a live view of your Ring cameras. “Alexa, show Ring Doorbell” automatically opens the connection and displays live video. Also works with other Ring devices, as well as WyzeCam’s dirt cheap 1080p cameras (v2 and Pivot-Tilt only).
@sammydog01 Blame! Blame! They have so many now. They have tried to sell these for a lot more in the past. I had to get Deadpool and Ironman! More Blame!
Audible members only Sci-fi and Fantasy sale until August 2nd. Titles start at $5. This is a good opportunity for @f00l and I to maximize the value of the Audible coupon offer we earned a couple weeks ago.
@ruouttaurmind I already owned a bunch of them (that I haven’t listened to yet), likely from past sales. I bought two for $5 and one for $6, plus the deal of the day.
@craigthom Same here. I’ve already listened to most that would interest me, and own the few others. But I did find two which I took a chance on and used the $10 credit I earned a few weeks ago. So it worked out fine for me.
Reminder: “The Cheesecake Factory is celebrating its favorite holiday of the year – National Cheesecake Day – by offering dine-in guests any slice of its more than 30 legendary flavors of cheesecake for half price at any of its restaurants nationwide on July 30, 2018. And to make the celebration even bigger, for the first time, The Cheesecake Factory will also debut two new cheesecakes on National Cheesecake Day: Very Cherry Ghirardelli Chocolate Cheesecake and Cinnabon Cinnamon Swirl Cheesecake.”
Note: the offer always says “dine-in only”, but I have never had a problem getting a slice to go at half price.
Free $10 Amazon gift card, I mean legit free!! It’s on the the Marlboro website. I don’t smoke but I signed up there because they have seriously awesome free stuff from time to time.
It’s www.marlboro.com
You just have to enter your email, and say you use tobacco to have an account there.
I just logged in and clicked “claim my Amazon gift card,” that was it
Knew about it because they sent an email.
I’m using the mobile site for it. On the left side there’s a menu button, usually their freebies are under the “promotions” tab. This was the link it sent me from my email for this one:
I purchased this early in May for about the same price. I’m satisfied. Very quiet, sturdy, plenty roomy enough for my 15.6" Toshiba. I tried my 17" HP on for size, and it seems suitable, so I ordered another. The only time I’ve heard my laptop fan run at all since I’ve been using this, it was 118* outside and I was crunching Adobe Premier, processing extended videos. Although I do wish the fans had just a bit higher speed available. Not that I need them, but I prefer to have too much power and not use it rather than wanting for more. Though this one is SUPER quiet.
Disclaimer: I have absolutely zero vested interest in this product or this company. Simply passing along a fair price on what’s turned out to be a decent product.
NightDive Studios on Steam is having a big sale on nearly their entire catalog: https://store.steampowered.com/publisher/NightDiveStudios/
You might know NightDive from their work on remastering and bringing back lots of classic (and some not-so-classic) retro games back.
Some of their titles:
Turok 1 & 2
System Shock Remastered
System Shock 2
I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream
7th Guest & 11th Hour
Ebay 4th of July 20% Off Sale - now thru July 3rd (not everything, you have to search the sale site)
I am buying a tent to take the kids camping!
@mfladd Well buy a tube or two of seam seal too and do all the seams first or you may be taking them swimming inside your tent when it rains.
@Kidsandliz @mfladd
That would seem right.
@mfladd @mike808 It is “right”.
@Kidsandliz @mfladd
Seem = seam. Whoosh.
Thanks for the pro-tip, though.
I really wish you would wait till the new month to start these.
@CaptAmehrican My deal runs into July, hence, the new thread.
@CaptAmehrican @mfladd Pfffft. Post 'em if you got 'em. It is Possible that People may have Plans and could be Preoccupied this weekend, so Advance Notice is Good.
@CaptAmehrican @mfladd @OldCatLady

Here's the TL;DR version:
1. Log in with your Amazon Prime account.
2. Add two Shirt.Woot shirts to your cart.
Walmart and Amazon both have the Nikko Air Elite 115 race set for $14.97. the set includes a micro drone (115mm diagonal span), controller, and a set of gates and flags to build a race course.
This drone is not FPV like the bigger Nikko from May’s deals thread but it does include Nikko (easy) mode, auto leveling mode, and full acro flight modes just like its big brother. It is also betaflight compatible and also should include the ability to download the very nice DRL Simulator and use the drone controller to fly on the computer for free.
My suggestion: buy two so you can have races.
I have to consult with ‘my quadcopter guy’ about this first.
@PlacidPenguin And buy it when he stops laughing?
@sammydog01
I’ll probably just spend the money on another robot instead.
@PlacidPenguin

@sammydog01
I found a cheap small robot which actually does stuff, but I’m trying to decide how soon I want to lead the robot uprising.
@PlacidPenguin Stuff? Link?
@sammydog01 I think that’s the lowest price I’ve seen for the Sphero R2. Maybe a fair option for my brother’s birthday gift. Thanks!
@sammydog01 Do you have both D2 and Q5? I’m wondering if there’s any difference between the two besides color?
@ruouttaurmind @sammydog01
M3.
@PlacidPenguin I am aware of R3-M2? What is M3?
@ruouttaurmind
The difference between D2 and Q5.
@ruouttaurmind
Could’ve saved a little over $6 by getting it through the Amazon Warehouse listing.
@ruouttaurmind I have them both but haven’t taken the black one out of the box. They make different noises but probably not much else. I think they have different responses to the movies though- need to try that out.
The black B.B. unit has lights in its head and bb-08 doesn’t.
My force band is still in the box too.
@PlacidPenguin It’s a gift for my brother. It’s worth the extra few bucks to give him one that’s sealed.
@ruouttaurmind
Must not be in a nearby warehouse, because I could have it by Tuesday.
@ruouttaurmind He really is fun.
Audible 4th of July sale. Hundreds of audiobooks in several categories for $5.95.
@ruouttaurmind looks like members only
@sammydog01 @f00l
I’m pretty sure that’s the case, but possibly for Prime members who don’t have Audible membership?? I seem to recall I could still purchase Audible Daily Deal once I let my Audible membership lapse. Or maybe I’m making that up.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@ruouttaurmind Daily Deals yes, this no. Oh well.
@sammydog01 Audible (and the entire Amazverse) confuses me with the way they seem to randomly apply policy of benefits.
@ruouttaurmind I always try because you never know. Thanks for putting the links up.
Last week, Sphero Spiderman was available from Best Buy for $35.
Now, however, you can get from Best Buy for $29.99.
@PlacidPenguin Did this thing ever sell well. Looks neat but I can see getting bored of it. I would think kids would be bored even quicker.
@ACraigL @PlacidPenguin He is an incredibly entertaining alarm clock. Sometimes we fight crime together. And he always says hi when I walk by.
@ACraigL @sammydog01
And apparently he is big on wordplay.
@ACraigL @PlacidPenguin He is quite the punster.
@ACraigL @PlacidPenguin This morning:
“Are you hungry?”
me: yes
“Hi Hungry, I’m Spiderman. Hahaha. Classic dad joke.”
@ruouttaurmind @sammydog01
Fisher-Price Imaginext DC Super Friends, Batbot Xtreme.
https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01NCUVU5V/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_biNoBbBEC7ZRE
@ruouttaurmind Looks like it’s still available. I would say it it’s a hit or miss gift, hence the discount. I happen to be easily amused.
@ruouttaurmind @sammydog01
Nephew too old for LEGO? Buncha Batman-related sets right now
/image lego batwing
@compunaut Too old for LEGO? That is not a real thing…
@ruouttaurmind
What’s wrong with a 2 foot tall Batman robot though?
@PlacidPenguin I really appreciate that you suggested it. But he’s 14, and that particular toy is a bit simplistic for him.
@ruouttaurmind
Does he have Lego Batman sets (like @compunaut asked)?
@PlacidPenguin Many multiples. If a new set comes out, my brother is looking for a reason to give it to my nephew.
(I personally use Nextcloud, but that doesn’t stop me from posting this deal.)
Ending in a little less then 11 hours, you can get one year of Dropbox Plus (1 TB of storage) with a bonus $20 Amazon gift card, for $99.

Here's the TL;DR version:
July 3 at 4pm CT | SanDisk 32GB MicroSD Memory Card | Prices start at $1 (Super-limited quantities)
@PlacidPenguin Ugh…I hate these games
@mfladd @PlacidPenguin seems like a nightmare.
@mfladd @RiotDemon It would be one thing if it was a $300 robot vacuum or something, but for a SD card which is often on sale for around $10? I got too much else going on in my life to play this.
@ruouttaurmind Or less. A few woot-offs ago, 32GB Sandisks could be had for $6-$7.
@mfladd
So what kind of games DO you like?
(Aside from PvsZ: Garden Warfare.)
@narfcake @ruouttaurmind The thrill is the chase, right?
@sammydog01 Fair point. But the bloom quickly fades when quantities are so limited there’s very little chance to get the item being chased. It’s proportionate. As I suggested, the higher the value of the quarry, the more thrill delivered by the chase. Even an unsuccessful chase, in my case. Fun to have played, even if not won.
@sammydog01 What @ruouttaurmind said. And for me, it’s simply not enough savings to justify that chase, especially since I have several extras (and extra 64gb cards) already.
@narfcake @ruouttaurmind WINNING IS EVERYTHING!!!
@narfcake @ruouttaurmind @sammydog01
And even if somebody were to get it, and assuming that they had a HH coupon, it’s not even worth trying to apply to the order.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@ruouttaurmind @sammydog01 I eat ice cream without sprinkles.
@narfcake @ruouttaurmind @sammydog01
I eat sprinkles without ice cream.
@narfcake @ruouttaurmind You better not eat ice cream with jimmies. Just saying.
@narfcake @ruouttaurmind As it turns out I’M A LOSER!
/giphy crying
@PlacidPenguin @ruouttaurmind @sammydog01
/giphy no sprinkles are for losers
/giphy penguins are for winners
@narfcake
Thanks for removing the hockey gif.
I didn’t really examine the 2nd gif.
@sammydog01 A winner for having tried!!! And always a winner in our book!!!
@narfcake @PlacidPenguin @ruouttaurmind @sammydog01
Sprinkles?!
@narfcake @PlacidPenguin @ruouttaurmind @sammydog01 jimmies
Time to start a list for Prime Day and a Half.
Click here to accept the offer
Make a special note of this fine print in the offer details: This promotion starts at 12:00 am PST on July 2nd, 2018 and ends when Amazon elects to end the promotion. In other words, don’t let the grass grow under your feet. Use it or risk loosing it.
Other early access Prime Day offers from Amz:
Echo Show reduced to $130 ($100 off)
Kindle Unlimited 3 mos for $1 or 1 or 2 year subscription for 40% off with code PDKU18
BTW, get the Amazon Echo Show for $104 by combining with the Amex 20% off deal outlined in the post above.
@ruouttaurmind Do you need to join Twitch for the free games, or does the Amazon prime account qualify for the downloads?
This is the link I found for it: www.twitch.tv/prime
@ACraigL I’m not a PC gamer, so unfortunately I am unable to offer any assistance on this one.
Perhaps this article will answer any questions. https://www.gamespot.com/articles/get-21-free-pc-games-for-amazon-twitch-prime-membe/1100-6460140/
@ACraigL @ruouttaurmind Been a while since I signed up for this, but my recollection:
Yes, I think you sign up for Twitch & somehow link your Amazon acct (so they know you’re Prime); that unlocks a menu for the free game(s) available.
I signed up cuz they were (may still be) offering free games (and game-related content) during the first several days of every month. Don’t have too much time for gaming these days, but I’ve selected 5 or 6 for free. Note: game usage is a bit like Steam - launched via Twitch app (which tracks what items ‘belong’ to you), so I don’t think you can play unless there’s an internet connection available.
I guess 7/6 is “National Fried Chicken Day” I found this article purporting to share: All the National Fried Chicken Day Deals You Need to Know About
Hope Box free at Penzeys- it includes a big bottle of vanilla! Free shipping limit is $20. Don’t tell the conservatives- apparently they like to mess up the website.
@sammydog01 Dammit Bill, you damn hippie, I haven’t even opened up the last hope box!
@therealjrn This one has vanilla.
/giphy yum
@sammydog01 Penzeys Hope Gift Box Inventory Update
@sammydog01
I’m not getting free shipping. Do I have to add $20 of stuff to get it? (not really free)
@medz @sammydog01 Yes.
Bill, while being a damn hippie, ain’t that far from a capitalistic pig.
@medz It’s probably worth the shipping cost. Just saying.
@medz @sammydog01 Man o man. Bill the damn hippie fixed me up righteously on that original hope box.
I especially like the Monopoly-style cards he put in my box. It gives me hope for Bill in that he’ll come around to the right way of thinking.
@medz @sammydog01 I know sammydog01 is all jazzed about the vanilla, but I’m excited that Penzeys Salsa & Pico in this latest box is salt-free.
@medz @therealjrn I have a small jar of it- gross, cumin. I hate the smell of cumin.
@medz @sammydog01 How do you feel about cilantro?
@sammydog01 @therealjrn Yeah, and I got mine. They threw in jars of Chicken Taco seasoning and Ground Cumin, as well as the Hope Box.
I don’t usually shop fancy shmancy stores but my daughter brought me a bottle of Bed, Bath & Bodyworks Cognac & Cream Gentle Foaming Hand Soap
I love the way it smells. I went to the website and ordered up a case of it. I don’t know if it’s clearance or what but it’s $2.75 (regular $6.50) a bottle. Since I usually get my soap from Dollar Tree, I don’t know how to act.
@therealjrn I love smelly hand soap.
@sammydog01 @therealjrn add code TW5S2J for 25% off your entire order (at least online).
@ruouttaurmind
I’ve considered buying from them in the past, especially since I could get $10 off my first purchase, but I can save more money by buying discounted gift cards, and using them in their respective stores.
@PlacidPenguin Maybe the $10 promo plus this discount code will make the savings similar or greater?
@ruouttaurmind Thanks. I got four Hue regular white bulbs for about $11 each after taxes. That’s about what returns go for.
Ya, so Google sux
@ruouttaurmind I have Alexa. Do I want these? Idk.
@mfladd
Buy them, let them sit for 2 months doing nothing.
I’ll then offer to buy them from you for $5, and say that normally since I’m doing you a favor, I’d take it for free, but since I feel bad…
@mfladd I kinda want one to fuss with for a bit, but I just can’t see much use in my life for this or Echo.
@ruouttaurmind Alexa is great for alarms, kitchen timers, music, and audible books. That’s pretty much all I do with her.
@sammydog01 Jeopardy and Song Quiz are great with Alexa. It’s Song Quiz, not Music Quiz.
@craigthom I will have to try those out. Thanks!
@ruouttaurmind @sammydog01 Ya, I use Alexa for timers, weather, cooking ratios, math, but most importantly - shopping list - since I have no memory.
@sammydog01 the mini can pair to another speaker with Bluetooth now.
@ruouttaurmind hmmmm…
@RiotDemon In that case I might buy another one if it’s cheap enough. I have a ton of google play music.
@sammydog01
Would you be interested in a brand new (still in box) (full size) Google Home?
@PlacidPenguin It’s probably out of my price range. I’m cheap.
@mfladd Sweet setup. I’ve seen them attached to vehicles, but never seen one in action. Nice setup.
@mfladd My father used to take me canoing every summer. He put the aluminum Grumman on the car all by himself.
@sammydog01 My canoe is 15’ and 120lbs, and me is gettin old. I will take the assist every time.
@mfladd @sammydog01
Men were more fit in those days. Probably a result of walking to 8 miles school, up hill in a blinding snowstorm?
@mfladd What the hell kind of canoe weighs 120 pounds? Does it have air conditioning or something?
@ruouttaurmind Yeah, I think she was basically calling me a “pussy” - pfft!
@sammydog01 It’s an Old Town 3 seater, square stern. It’s made to add a motor, so it is a little wider also. (not exactly the same as pic, but close)
Crap, I haven’t bought a motor yet. I am going electric.
I love the guy in the middle. He doesn’t get to drive, or the great seat up front. AND, he is the only one needing a life vest
@mfladd There’s another 30 pounds for the deep cycle battery. Oh, you’ll be a real man soon enough.
@ruouttaurmind It will go something like this: “Son, grab the battery, or we aren’t going fishing.” To which he will reply,
@mfladd @ruouttaurmind My dad made me paddle.
@ruouttaurmind @sammydog01 Which is why you are strong now. We will be doing that too until I can get a motor.
@mfladd at least someone is trying to keep you in line.
@mfladd
You? Weak?

eBay is offering 10% off “all tech” (whatever that means) with discount code PRIMOTECH on checkout. Minimum purchase is $50, max discount is $100. Through 11PM PT.

It works for these categories:
Computers & Electronics.
Cameras & Photo.
Cell Phones & Accessories.
Computers/Tablets & Networking.
Consumer Electronics.
Video Games & Consoles.
I have a 15% off referral code for the Google Pixel 2 when bought through the Google Store. Whisper me if interested. I also have a $20 Project Fi referral code if you’re making the switch.
I’m trying to decide if I want an Echo Show $129 worth. Anyone have one?
@sammydog01
So much for you being cheap.
@PlacidPenguin But it’s on sale!
@PlacidPenguin @sammydog01 For $129.00 just call me and I’ll look up whatever you need.
@sammydog01 @therealjrn
Would we have to supply the equipment which you would hook up, or is that included in the $129?
@PlacidPenguin @therealjrn Can you close captions TV shows for me?
@PlacidPenguin @sammydog01 No hook ups! That’s the beauty of my subscription service!
No confusing equipment to deal with–all hardware is located remotely from your location–if you can dial a phone or send a text; you can use our service!
Service is covered by a 90-day TRJ warranty.
@sammydog01 @therealjrn
So you’ll hook stuff up, but there’s no equipment to deal with?
And whose definition of confusing equipment anyways?
@PlacidPenguin @sammydog01
Sure! Just call our service and one of our highly trained English-speaking operators will provide a high-quality narration of the show! That’s BETTER than closed captions!
@PlacidPenguin @sammydog01 Not "h"ook stuff up, "l"ook stuff up. Our technicians have been specifically warned not to go inside your home.
@sammydog01 @therealjrn
Fine. What if we come to your home?
@PlacidPenguin @sammydog01 No, no, no. You do not come to my home. There is no need, and for security reasons, you may be shot on sight. Just use the handy-dandy contact form.
@sammydog01 @therealjrn
@ruouttaurmind Killing youtube kind of killed it’s usefulness for me. I already have a TV in the kitchen that gets Amazon Prime and it’s bigger.
Stupid spat between Amz and Google.

Amazon Prime Members: get $10 on Amazon for Prime Day when you make a single purchase of $10 or more in Whole
PaycheckFoods between 7/11-7/17 and scan your Prime Code or use your linked mobile number at checkout.@heartny
What is a “prime code”?
@f00l after much digging through the Amazon app I determined that you have to get the whole foods app to get the code to scan. Or you can just use the phone number Amazon has associated with your Prime account.
Link to offer details.
@PlacidPenguin It would be awesome if I could stack offers on eBay. The PRIMOSALE 15% discount and a free Mini.
@ruouttaurmind As it is, they don’t even allow checking out with more than 10 sellers at one time. Multiple codes? That seems like an even lesser chance.
@narfcake About the closest I’ve come to multiple discounts is a eBay Bucks bonus for using the app to checkout, plus a discount code for purchases.
McDonald’s Is Giving Out Free French Fries Every Week for the Rest of the Year

@compunaut McDonald’s needs a new copy editor. lol.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@compunaut @therealjrn it’s the thrillist author’s wording…
They ranked 16 French fries from worst to best. Spoiler: they’re thinking Arby’s.
They are accurate at least in that they put Wendy’s fries almost dead last. I don’t remember in-n-out fries being worse, but I am no fry connoisseur.
@therealjrn They did that last year. I ate too many fries. Way too many fries.

Dup of post in book deals topic:
Kindle Oasis 8th gen
(previous gen) (not waterproof)
(Leather charging cover)
Are showing up for decent prices in the Amazon warehouse.
I don’t think Amazon will do better re pricing on these on prime day proper … the supply is too uncertain
But of course I dont know for sure.
To see the selection options go here:

Currently $124 to $152. Depending on options chosen.
While not waterproof, this is a really nice e-reader.
Amazon did have a brief flash sale on the 9th (and current) gen (waterproof) Kindle Oasis. They may will discount this current versions again over Prime Day, if that is your preference.
To see the current generation (not on sale at the instant of my past), go here:

@communist @PlacidPenguin I own this (in white). Fantastic phone. Midrage features combined with flagship level performance. No complaints from me. Of course, now that Essential is shuttered, we’ll see if my story changes with the next couple OS updates. But still, for the price I paid, I’ll be satisfied if I can get a few years out of it.

@ruouttaurmind Too late. I could try cancelling order, but I don’t know when I would get the points back? Instantly? Later? Not sure.

@PlacidPenguin Did you buy one for your copter?
@sammydog01
Because I can’t use the app which is associated with the copter (I even sideloaded older versions), I have no way of using FPV or the camera.
As such, putting a micro sd card into the copter would be pointless.
So no I did not.
@PlacidPenguin
/giphy so sorry
@sammydog01
It’s fine. Now I can go back to bugging @ruouttaurmind about copters and drones.
@PlacidPenguin
But can’t you still initiate video recording directly from the controller? That’s how I did video recording for a couple years before I had my first FPV configuration. And still how I do much of my recording.
@ruouttaurmind
Fair point.
Still sent a couple of emails, though I don’t expect any help.
The Android app was last updated on March 23, 2017.
I guess later today I will start learning how to fly this thing.
I can turn it on, so that’s a step.
@ruouttaurmind
They told me about a second app.
Installed it, and it opens…
Going to try connecting later to the copter.
Early this morning, I tried the camera without my phone, using a micro sd card which I temporarily took from something else.
No pictures were on the card after a bunch of my attempts.
Will try later through the app.
@ruouttaurmind
Good news: I can get a live stream from the camera, although it is a bit noisy (i.e fuzzy).
Bad news: I can’t connect the quadcopter to my phone, so I can’t use my phone.
The good news is, I can use the headset as a Google Cardboard headset.

Oh well. I’ll try again next time there’s an eBay Bucks offer or a promo code.
And now R2D2 by Sphero plus a force band is $40 at Costco. Damn I overpaid.
@ruouttaurmind Crap That was supposed to be B.B.-8. Oops. But R2Q5 is just as cool as R2D2 in my opinion.
@ruouttaurmind
Done.
@ruouttaurmind
If you remember, post a reminder to look for the first code in my email.
You are right. This is a horrible way to offer a coupon code.
@f00l I just received my Audible email for participating in this promotion. Keep an eye out for yours…
@ruouttaurmind
My coupon link seems not to have arrived yet.
Much thx for reminder. What was the subject line for this email?

Microsoft is offering a 12mos Xbox Live Gold subscription for $40 (normally $60). IIRC, you can stack up to 3 years of prepaid Xbox Live Gold subs, so if you’re feeling wealthy, grab three. I just tested, and MS let me get to the last step of the purchase process for additionals, so it looks like they’re not limiting you to one offer per customer.
@ruouttaurmind
He has notifications off, so tagging him doesn’t help.
@PlacidPenguin Makes me feel like I tried though.
@ruouttaurmind
More importantly, if they’re $20.01 off, they’re practically giving you 3 years for the price of 2.

Giphy, as much as I like tacos… c’mon, at least try to find a relevant gif?
@ruouttaurmind
Thanks, but I don’t eat tacos.
@ruouttaurmind yeah, the cards stack for sure, but I don’t think you could by multiple year digital subscriptions at a single time. Maybe I’m wrong.
@medz
Not in a single transaction, no, but it did appear to be ready to let me go back in a second transaction and buy another.
BTW, RE: gifting this, what about sending him a $40 MS store digital gift cert, and having him purchase the subscription directly?

The Brilliance Audio online bookstore audiobookstand.com is closing down. They are offering thousands of titles, all clearance priced, with many hundreds of titles offered at $4 with free shipping.
These are distributed on CD, so if you want to listen from a phone, etc, you’ll need to rip them using a computer. If you’re a car commute listener like me, just dust off your CD player and use that.
@ruouttaurmind If your car has a CD player. Mine doesn’t. I can do the rip thing, though.
@ruouttaurmind Some of them already come in MP3 versions, so it’s just a matter of copying the files.
@craigthom Yupper. I realized that once I started shopping. Of the 4 I bought last night, 3 were available in MP3-CD format.
@ruouttaurmind Damn damn damn. Well, I only bought five, for a total of $20. Thanks. I think.
@OldCatLady I bought seven. So far.
@ruouttaurmind I bought another six today.
I keep going back to this sale, shopping for more titles. Although I’ve already digested this one, David Wong’s Futuristic Violence and Fancy Suits is available for $4.
Christie Romano does a suitable job with the narration. I think she’s a great choice for this story.
If you’re a fan of near future semi-distopia, or of David Wong’s John Dies series (this one is not part of that series), I highly recommend.
Audiobookstand says my order was shipped today. No tracking info though. So I guess it’ll be a surprise when it’d delivered.
Oh, and the order was fulfilled by Amazon.

@lisaviolet @ruouttaurmind this cool box of boxes is $10 (normally 39.99) at Michaels. With competition match coupon of $10 of $10 from Joann, cost me .64. If you have any % off sale items, it should work also.
http://www.michaels.com/washi-tape-storage-box-by-recollections/10536003.html#start=9
@mikibell p.s. they have extended their " accept all competitor coupons " indefinitely…
@mikibell I went in yesterday with a 40% off all plastic storage coupon from Joann and was told they don’t honor coupons for a percent “off your whole purchase” anymore, and as a matter of fact Saturday was the last day for that.
Spent $38 on plastic boxes anyway
@djslack they are wrong… if you go complain on FB, they might make it better.
https://www.facebook.com/Michaels/posts/10156670323394165
http://www.michaels.com/shop-and-save/coupon-match/sas-couponmatch
@mikibell thanks!
@djslack @mikibell I was just in Michael’s this afternoon. I used the online phone coupon for 50% off, then the mailer coupon for 40%, and used the mailer again, because they kindly rang my stuff as 3 separate purchases. Their site still says they accept all competitor coupons, EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.
@djslack @mikibell @OldCatLady
Every. Single. Day?
@djslack I am sorry…they annoy me with their coupon policy. I have on a few occasions just left the items on the counter and walked out. Whereas, Joann’s liberal coupon policy has me shopping at their store so much that my family could use receipt paper as a month’s supply of tp!
@djslack @OldCatLady @therealjrn nope… get it right… EVERY.SINGLE.DAY.
@mikibell thanks. I searched Joann’s site and they didn’t have the items I was going to buy, or I’d have just gone there.
Maybe I will write their customer service and see what they say.
@djslack @mikibell @therealjrn And ALL.NIGHT.LONG.
Walmart and Amazon are currently offering the Instant Pot 6 quart multi-cooker for $49 and free shipping.
C3 says this is Amazon’s lowest price ever. As is often the case, this deal may be discontinued at any time, so don’t hesitate if you’re interested.
@ruouttaurmind Should I be interested?
@ruouttaurmind @sammydog01 great price on a good machine. It’s not the DUO60 but it should still be a versatile cooker. One thing I noticed is missing versus the one I have is yogurt mode, but that’s probably not a deal breaker for most.
I’d be interested if I didn’t already have one, so my vote is yes, you should be interested.
@ruouttaurmind YES. Even @Kittysprinkles thinks this is Da Bomb. And she hates everything.
Her next post will say, " No, I just hate you @mfladd".
@mfladd Well, we all do, so…
@ruouttaurmind
@mfladd
Man. That @mfladd sounds like a jerk.
@sammydog01
I must defer to @djslack and @mfladd and everyone else for their expertise. I do not own one and don’t really have any desire to. I already have too many kitchen appliances and not enough counter, cabinet and shelf space.
@PlacidPenguin
@mfladd
Now’s your chance.
@mfladd @PlacidPenguin
/giphy “oh dear!”
@ruouttaurmind
Well, that’s just silly.
@ruouttaurmind You planning to open a restaurant? Preparing for the apocalypse in case there is still electricity? Stockpiling future christmas presents for family? Feeding a family of 63?
@Kidsandliz @mfladd
@Kidsandliz Gotta build the bunker first.
@Kidsandliz
Inspiration can come from the most unexpected places… I have the dishes, cookware and the appliances… I’ll open the only all-night diner in the apocalypse!
@ruouttaurmind
So… No party by your house?
@ruouttaurmind Tisk tisk - you are an unprepared survivalist with no bunker. All your excess supplies will just go up in flames. One problem though with the restaurant idea. You haven’t started to stockpile the food needed unless they can only eat there if they bring their own food and you cook it for them.
@Kidsandliz
All-Night Cafe
You kill it, we grill it
@ruouttaurmind You into cannibalism too then I take it? And what about skunk?
@Kidsandliz Nooooo cannibals! Every time I encounter that in an apocalypse story it skeeves me out.
@Kidsandliz @ruouttaurmind
Oh that Dogbert. Always ready to stir the pot.
hey all, is this a good deal??? I don’t dabble in apple products, but the kid has asked for this because the apps her school uses are primarily developed for icrap.
She will use it to access her calendar, books and other school related apps (no clue).
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00M4L4I9W/ref=tsm_1_fb_lk
https://www.itechdeals.com/apple-ipad-air-with-wi-fi-16gb-in-space-gray.html?utm_campaign=ipad+air+16gb+blowout+7%2F23%2F18+(PvVv5C)&utm_medium=email&utm_source=DJ-1
@mikibell edit window elapsed – or would something like the second item be better?
@mikibell the iPad air is newer/better than the iPad 2. iPad 2 still uses the 30 pin connector.
That said I think there may be better deals on the iPad air to be had. See the used/very good listing here: https://www.amazon.com/Apple-MD788LL-Tablet-Wi-Fi-Silver/dp/B00G2Y4WNY
@djslack @mikibell I agree with @djslack.
@mikibell Call the school office and ask which iCrap models will run the programs. There is always a student discount available somewhere.
@OldCatLady heheh the school recommends chromebooks and laptops. I don’t think they understand the technology … at all!
@djslack @mfladd thank you!! I sent her the gold ipad air 2… told her, not sure I can afford it, but would that work… Finishing up this year’s taxes, might be able to swing it.
@djslack @mfladd @mikibell
If you have not yet purchased, check the Portuguese for an iPad Air on swappa.com. Quality of product is guaranteed on that site
Forget the iPad 2. Too old.
@djslack @mikibell Nice!
@ruouttaurmind not a done deal…thanks for the info…
@mikibell FYI - iPad Air 2 64GB refurb on wOOt - $260.
https://computers.woot.com/offers/apple-ipad-air-2-64gb-lte-tablet-sd-11?ref=w_cnt_wp_1_6
@mfladd This would be a deal breaker for me…
This means it’s not an Apple factory refurb.
@mfladd @ruouttaurmind I appreciate the recommendations – woot also has a macbook for sale today – basically, a macbook is a chromebook? Ipad air is like a samsung tab?? Macbook would be overkill, yes?
(I feel very stupid in this conversation!!)
@mfladd @mikibell @ruouttaurmind My kid needed a computer for school and I would have gotten him a chromebook except they required memory which he has never used since all their work is on Google docs.
@mfladd @mikibell @ruouttaurmind @sammydog01
Naturally this is all irrelevant if you’re
pretty muchforced to buy an iDevice.@PlacidPenguin I think her daughter wanted the ipad and the school recommended a chromebook or laptop.
@mikibell basically a MacBook is a Mac laptop. More capable than a Chromebook as far as running local apps versus mainly accessing cloud services.
If the school is recommending Chromebooks then all their work must be done online, so anything that can run a web browser will do the trick.
@djslack
@mikibell I’m not convinced iPad is the direction you need to go, but if you do… deal on Google Express: Fry’s Electronics (via Google Express) is offering the iPad 9.7 32GB in silver for $209 with free shipping (after using code GADGET20 on checkout). This is a great price on a brand new, factory fresh iPad with full Apple warranty.
@ruouttaurmind sold out… So the disparity is between the adminstration who recommends android and the teachers who require apps avail only on itunes. If they all got their crap together, my quest would be easier!! but I think someone would need to teach them how to spell technology first!!
@mikibell @ruouttaurmind What apps do they need? Needing any apps itunes or android sounds odd.
@ruouttaurmind @sammydog01 they use like a jeopardy app (I should know the name, but it is funky - like squiggle or squirtle (I know that is Pokemon)), a history app, math apps, something about their sports too, as well as the school has all books avail electronically. I get a list on first day of school.
@mikibell @ruouttaurmind Does she have a phone?
Free for a limited time from Humble Bundle:
Guns of Icarus Alliance.
Tilly’s is having a big clearance sale on lots of stuff. Discounts from 50%-70% off. For example the “toys” category is 70% off regular price. Shipping is free with code SLICKFS.
Tons of mehrific stuff to choose from at deep discounts. Categories include toys, home accessories, cell phone accessories and lots more. I tested the free shipping code, and was able to order a $0.59 key chain and it did, indeed, ship for free.
@ruouttaurmind What the hell is a Tillys?
@mfladd Nah. For real? You must not have any teenage kids, or you live in one of the 19 states that doesn’t have them. One of the few retailers with a full selection of Vans shoes. Years ago they were marketing themselves as “the hip hop urban outfitters” but they’ve since repositioned as a mainstream retailer.
@mfladd @ruouttaurmind I must live in one of those 19 states too.
@mfladd @ruouttaurmind @sammydog01 Never heard of it.
@mfladd @sammydog01 @therealjrn Fortunately you don’t have to live in one of the 31 states where they have locations to order silly crap from their website.
Their location map:
@mfladd @ruouttaurmind @sammydog01 Lookie, lookie there, there’s one in Tulsa.
@therealjrn Take a field trip and report back.
@sammydog01 I might. The location is in a big mall. I dislike malls.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Best Buy special offer on Ring Video Doorbell Pro and Echo Spot bundle (that’s the little round Alexa device with a display): Ring Video Doorbell Pro price reduced to $200, plus add an Echo Spot for $30 (normally $130).
@ruouttaurmind Still Pricey! I’ll just have to keep peeking out the window to see who’s there.
@mfladd
Wouldn’t help in the event that there was a quadcopter anyways.
For totally unrelated reasons, do you have a chimney?
And if so, is it closed up?
@PlacidPenguin No chimney here.
@PlacidPenguin Chimney is non-working anymore, but thanks for reminding me that I need to put something over the top of it.
@mfladd
Sure.
The Woot app has these really cool light things that I don’t know how to link. Superhero’s and r2d2 and stuff. Go look. Really.
@sammydog01
https://www.woot.com/offers/3d-illusion-decorative-lights
(I once almost bought some Pokémon designs on eBay. Unfortunately, however, common sense kicked in, and I didn’t.)
@PlacidPenguin Same thing happened to me at Woot with BB-8.
FYI, you need the app to fully view the deal and it will open up Google play to download it right away.
I briefly got a glance at it though. I thought about making a custom one of those… One day.
@RiotDemon
On mobile, you can open it in a new tab or in incognito mode, and it won’t go to the Play Store.
@sammydog01 Blame! Blame! They have so many now. They have tried to sell these for a lot more in the past. I had to get Deadpool and Ironman! More Blame!
@mfladd I almost pinged you on it and decided that was mean. Enjoy Deadpool!
@sammydog01 Thanks for posting (my wallet says not). They are super cool at that price.
@LemonTheCat Do you have to be new? Because I signed in and I don’t see anything about the gift card.
@LemonTheCat
I once tried signing up there.
They didn’t let me.
@LemonTheCat @PlacidPenguin You have to state that you’re a smoker. I’m a really bad liar.
@LemonTheCat @sammydog01
That wasn’t the issue issue. It was that my personal information was incorrect.
@LemonTheCat @PlacidPenguin @RiotDemon @sammydog01
I decided to do a search on the deal. It worked - I claimed the card. Here is the link:
https://www.marlboro.com/pages/discover-marlboro-landing/marlboro-black/article-index/chaos-collectives.html
I’m using the mobile site for it. On the left side there’s a menu button, usually their freebies are under the “promotions” tab. This was the link it sent me from my email for this one:
https://www.marlboro.com/pages/discover-marlboro-landing/marlboro-black/article-index/chaos-collectives.html
Hope it works for you guys! Sorry for possibly making you pretend to love wacky-tobacky
Sorry for the horrible spelling of… tobacky… ?
@mfladd @PlacidPenguin @RiotDemon @sammydog01
Haha, I literally just posted the same link. JINX!!!
@LemonTheCat @mfladd @RiotDemon @sammydog01
Still not sure why my information cannot be verified. Oh well.
@LemonTheCat @mfladd @sammydog01 sweet, thanks y’all!
@PlacidPenguin is there an apartment or something confusing it?
@LemonTheCat If only it were wacky tobacky.
@RiotDemon
No.
@LemonTheCat @OldCatLady I just did a new registration–no $10 for me–boo
Laptop cooling pad: TOPQSC cooling pad for 15"-17" laptops with 4 120mm fans and integrated blue LED lighting and adjustable fan speed for $14 and free Prime shipping (after clipping the 33% off coupon on the product listing). This may not be the absolute rock bottom price you’ll ever find on a large format cooling pad, but it’s cheap enough.
