And here I am still on the forum. It is just so hard to put ya’ll down and go to sleep. The wife might have to ground me from my phone at nights just so I will go to bed.
@chienfou I once worked 2 doubles 2 days in a row (3-11 and 11-7 and I almost never in my life stayed up all night). That was when I was a sign in clerk in the ER many years ago. I was beyond beat by the end of the second double. I concluded I’d suck at night shift and was thankful I was bounced between the other two shifts. Actually thinking about it one summer I did get stuck with 2 weeks of nights. I don’t think I ever got enough sleep and dragged my butt through the entire two weeks exhausted. I guess one eventually adapts but I wasn’t doing it long enough to do so.
@Kidsandliz yeah, I am past the age where doing consecutive doubles is a good idea. The money is great, but it takes a toll on my body trying to stay awake that second night.
I have been in a position where I worked straight nights for an extended period and I found that what worked best for me was to go home, hit the sack, sleep for about 3-4 hours, get up and do some stuff, then go back to bed about 1700-1800 so I could sleep another 4 hours before I got up, showered and hit the road for work.
Here, let me help…
Your mother was a hamster and your father smells of elderberries.
@chienfou
You are truly a healer.
@f00l Why thank you (you can figure out where the emphasis belongs!)
@chienfou Now go away or I shall taunt you a second time!
@macromeh OK… I’ll just ride off into the fog…
Well, I for one would have been at home and in bed if my replacement had shown up for work on time…
@chienfou
Ugh. Did your replacement ever show?
@jst1ofknd Nope. Just got home from 16 hrs, so grabbing some quick shuteye then back for 8 more at 1445.
@chienfou @jst1ofknd
@chienfou Well that sucks!! Hope your replacement shows this time around.
@Kidsandliz
thanks, we already put a ‘plan B’ in effect if that repeats itself. Thankfully, it doesn’t include me staying again!

@jst1ofknd Sleep, innocent sleep! Sleep that knits up the raveled sleeve of care!
@UncleVinny
”McBeth hath murdered sleep!”
(Or something like that).
I was thinking of exactly the line you quoted, one of my favs.
