Is Meh picking on colorblind people today?
10Today’s Meh daily email just had white text with no links. So I refreshed, thinking it just didn’t load properly. Same result.
Come to find out, Meh used some exact color shades such that red-green colorblind people can’t see the ‘green’ text. I’m using green in quotes because I’m not really sure it’s there at all. When I look really closely I see some weird illusion, but can’t tell what’s going on there.
8% of men are red-green colorblind.
There is a massive conspiracy that we need to get to the bottom of! The corruption must be weeded out!
Also, now you (the reader) know at least one color combo you can use to fuck with your colorblind friends.

My husband is colorblind. I had to mark lines once for the fence guy. He mowed around the blue and orange spray paint and right over the red spray paint. So I’m careful now.
I’m not colorblind but I could hardly read that dark green on dark gray either.

Yeah, the shade contrast reduces readability, even with difference in colors. You have more rods than cones (about 20:1 ratio), so it’s harder to make out the edges; your brain usually uses contrast to define the edges of colors so the images look more stark. Using identical contrast with different colors defeats this to a degree.
Heh. I never read the e-mail, but went back based upon this post and can confirm.
Now is that time of year when people put up vaguely dark-colored trees in their homes, hang vaguely dark-colored circles on their front doors with vaguely dark-colored bows…

Yes, we did not discriminate against color blind people today, this email is terrible for everyone.

@dave There are great tools for this, might try using WebAIM’s contrast checker or similar for future palettes.

I know not what you are talking about. I just looked at the email. I do use the dark theme on my phone though.

Blue Green colorblind people can’t read it now.
