@lichme My cat weighs 20 pounds. Will any Roomba carry him, or do I need a particular model?
I would need stitches if I tried to put him in a costume. I have two smaller cats, but they aren't into riding things. Only, the largest cat loves to ride things.
Actually, I've got the 560; its nice, but I found I have to clean/empty it every time I run it, and it takes as much time to clean after it does a room as it does to just use the old hoover.
@eeterrific I have a 560 as well and I love it. For my apartment it's the perfect size and does a great job. But I am jealous of my girlfriend's neato, it's much quieter than my roomba.
Meh. My first woot was a Roomba, and I was so excited, but the battery situation is a total buzzkill. This one sounds much fancier, but 50% better battery life still rounds down to "not enough to finish even a sad little guest room."
I have no problem with the NSA, the CIA, the FBI, the Chinese, etc knowing literally everything about me... but you keep that devil cleaner away from me.
@osiris3mc from today's Meh writeup: "It's way better than the 650. Much more advanced guts. AeroVac Series 2 instead of Series 1, which probably means something. Dual HEPA filters. Three virtual walls instead of one. An extra filter. A wireless command center."
@GANDHITRON since a fair number of folks here are likely on a 25th-of-the-month VMP cycle(the Christmas day 2-month VMP giveaway) it would seem logical there'd be a VMP bait item or two over the next few days.
Unless they've found a way to prevent the dog hair from getting into the gears, Roombas are useless to me. "Error - Open Roomba’s brush cage and clean brushes." THE DAMN BRUSHES ARE CLEAN AND THE BIN IS EMPTY!
@Zypher I actually own the 790 model with 6 animals. I have never had an error message about cleaning the brushes. And when I open the cage it is full of dog and cat hair. The only message I ever het is please move the roomba to another location.
@awk My sentiments exactly. I'm all into fun gadgets and even owned quite a few Roombas in my day, but unless this thing dispenses hookers and blow ain't no way it's worth more than a $300 quadcopter.
Based on the pix, the basic design hasn't changed in forever. My ~8(?) year old one is a royal PITA to clean. Easier just to do it the old fashioned way which is what I do instead. Meh.
@PecosBill I bought a brush replacement kit from Amazon and it came with that cool little red brush cleaner that's in the case. It cleans the brush in about two seconds. I also shelled out for a better replacement battery, I was not disappoint.
If you don't own a Roomba, you should buy one. If you don't buy this one, get a cheaper one somewhere. Running the vacuum is such a waste of time. I hated and neglected vacuuming until my first MEH purchase - two Roombas (360s??). Freaking excellent. Kick it once and it'll vacuum the floor, it'll do it again the next day, and the day after. Eat pizza over the kitchen floor - the Roomba will get the crumbs. You can move the boxes of beer around and it'll clean where they were the next time it runs. It cleans under the bed and the sofa. The 500 series and the 700 series do a better job than the 300, but get one, any one and quit pushing the damn vacuum when a computer will do the job for you .
@imbalanced Fair enough. I think my point is simply quit wasting time pushing a vacuum. If you earn $15/hour and you push the vacuum for about 1/2hour a week then the payback on any robotic vacuum is about a year.
@ergomeh The time to maintain the thing comes in unpredictable chunks. It works out to less than half an hour a week, but there's something to be said for routine.
@ergomeh That's assuming you can earn money 24/7. If it's between vacuuming or watching reruns of Big Bang Theory you really aren't costing yourself any money by running a vacuum.
@MrMark If a waitress at the Cheese Cake Factory can afford an appartment in Pasadena then the $420 for a vacauum should be nothing and you can get back to the show...
@eyewerks Meh price was $180 - 260. $180 for the base and $260 for the Frankenstein Can't remember what the Animal one cost but it was clearly between those two prices.
I actually own this (790) Roomba. It works extremely well with pet hair. And with 2 dogs and 4 cats (my wife says if I rescue 1 more cat I am out! - hmmmm?) we need it. If anyone was considering a Roomba this is an excellent one and comes with a plethora of accessories.
@mfladd do you have any long hair dogs? I own two samoyeds and my dyson sometimes has issues with the hair, so i imagine a roomba would just explode. But i want one!
@march5th00 I have two cocker spaniels - one mixed with a longer coat. The cat hair that you don't usually see on the carpet is what fills it up for me. You would just have to empty it more often. As I just replied to @zypher I never get error messages to clean the brushes and empty the cage as previous units. You do have to keep up with cleaning the brushes but they include a nifty little tool that makes it easy. I couldn't be happier with unit. Neither does my wife and she always has something to say :)
@alacrity It's tempting. But there are the great kids involved, so I guess I will have to stick around. But even I do not think I can take 1 more cat - BUT they just find me!
@mfladd re: cats- I have a similar problem; over the last 20 years, i've "rescued" 146 cats and turned my yard into an animal rescue, much to the chagrin of my wife.Raccoons, possum, skunks, deer and wild turkeys have all "found" me too. It's not like i've sought them out- they just show up here and i end up getting 'em healthy. so, yeah- I understand completely. I tell people that when i was a kid, I sold my soul for "all the pussy I could handle" but failed to be specific.
@alacrity Bonus Karma points to you! I applaud your animalistic efforts. I would be divorced I think. As for the "pussy" comment - the devil is in the details ;)~
Hey Meh...It's my opinion that you are losing touch with your constituency. $300 helicopters?! $400 robot sweepers. Barely more than 2 sold/hour. Do you hear us?! You certainly can't pay the rent on that fancy new warehouse of yours at that rate, can you? Sadly, you are not even hitting at a "meh" level. You are sub-meh. STEP IT UP, or you will soon go the way of many other deal-a-day sites. I mean, you're cool and all that...and the kitschy comments are good for a laugh or two. Just don't push us too hard, as we are a finicky bunch.
Great, something that is more money than I want to pay for. Again. (But how unique to sell a Roomba on a deal a day site) Tomorrow will probably be refurbished Dyson's and of course on Friday, Speaker docs. Very, Very Meh....
I will say I appreciate you for offering substantial discounts on higher priced items. I can find $3.00 earbuds anywhere (not saying I wouldn't buy them if you offered them), however I like the fact that if I were in the market for roomba I could get a great deal on this model here. So while some may balk at expensive items, I think it's great that you mix them into the rotation.
Just please never offer "compatible" razor blade heads. Then you will be like every other deal of the day sites.
I want this so incredibly badly. Lol but my wife won't let me justify the expense. Then she tells.me to clean the floors today and I'm all "... Stupid wife.". Thanks for ruining my marriage MEH.
Oh, and meh - don't let the naysayers get to you (i know they dont... You ran woot afterall). A variety of products is how you get a variety of people following the site. And this product is cool as shit at a great price. I've spent the day daydreaming about what i'd name my robot friend if i could afford one. The only suggestion I have for making the site better is to bring back kidfoot.
@march5th00 my advice is just do it........I once told my wife I had bought a boat (actually had not). She blew up but not nearly what I had imagined.......then bought the boat.
I bought one of the original Roombas (Early 2000s? Around then.) It's dead now but was a great tool in its' time. Biggest hassle was that we had to tuck all the fringes on oriental carpets under the carpet, or else Roomba sucked the fringes in and came to a beeping halt. Became a major pain. Don't know if that's still an issue or not, but that still stops me from getting a new one.
@Sarahsda We have rugs with fringes all over the house and this unit has never once had an issue with it. Actually the guide states it has something, "special spidey sense" maybe, that it doesn't concern itself with fringe.
I have used a robot vac three days a week for at least five years....would never be without one ever again. The purchase price is a little steep but oh how nice not to push a vacuum all over the house......priceless.
I like the Scooba so much more than Roomba. I found that I could vacuum (love my Dyson) in a fraction of the time it took for Roomba to do so and do a much better job.
Despite the "vacuums when you're out" capability, cleaning the thing was a disaster -- I have pretty bad dust allergies, and between shaking out the debris and cleaning the roller, I was routinely a sneezing, runny mess. By comparison, the Dyson is snap to clean.
That said, I hate mopping, pushing around dirty water. Scooba does a great job on my tile floor and I use it regularly.
In closing, I wish this was a Scooba. And then I would Meh it because I already have one.

I would need stitches if I tried to put him in a costume. I have two smaller cats, but they aren't into riding things. Only, the largest cat loves to ride things.
Jesus, I didn't even think they were that much at full price.
**insert "this sucks joke"
@studerc insert a few days late jokes... With a price like that...
$420. A couple days late there meh.
Blaze it.
Missed opportunity to sell an item for $420 on 4/20.
Nature boy abhors a vacuum.....
No pagination. For this reason alone, I'm out.
Meh. My first woot was a Roomba, and I was so excited, but the battery situation is a total buzzkill. This one sounds much fancier, but 50% better battery life still rounds down to "not enough to finish even a sad little guest room."
@whogots This one will last 2 hours, no problem. I've had it for about a year now.
A robot named 790?
@davidgro This vacuum is going to fall in love with your girlfriend and try to kill you.
I have no problem with the NSA, the CIA, the FBI, the Chinese, etc knowing literally everything about me... but you keep that devil cleaner away from me.

@RedOak "...which probably means something." Woah now guys - hold on. They're getting really descriptive!
Too rich for my blood
@edheil it's not a Scooba, doubt it could clean blood anyway.
A-maze-ing
@KDemo A-meh-zing
What happened to selling cool backpacks and water bottles and neat shit like that? What's with all the Sharper Image crap?
@GANDHITRON since a fair number of folks here are likely on a 25th-of-the-month VMP cycle (the Christmas day 2-month VMP giveaway) it would seem logical there'd be a VMP bait item or two over the next few days.

Meh. Was hoping for something Earth Day themed, not an overpriced mediocre sweeper.
THIS DEAL IS ONE DAY LATE 420 DAY WAS YESTERDAY BLAZZZZEEEEEE IITTTTTTTTTTT
@legendornothing Maybe BLAZZZZEEEEEE less, 4/20 was two days ago.
@MrMark prolly forgot what time zone they were in.
That's a serious amount of coin for most cheap skates around here to dish out!
@Stallion No joke, what happened to all the cheap cool stuff?
I miss my old Roomba but $400+ ain't gonna happen. For that much I'll get the Phantom quadcopter and hang a Swiffer from it.
@awk methinks the quadcopter is due to reappear next week at $275.
@awk My sentiments exactly.
I'm all into fun gadgets and even owned quite a few Roombas in my day, but unless this thing dispenses hookers and blow ain't no way it's worth more than a $300 quadcopter.
neato or meh
for $420, I'd expect the packing material in the box to be marijuana- and even then I wouldn't spend that much.
Wow, we were just talking about needing one of these at work earlier today...

@ergomeh After purchasing a Neato vacuum, I can never go back to Roomba. It will take a complete overhaul of how they clean to change my mind.
@imbalanced Fair enough. I think my point is simply quit wasting time pushing a vacuum. If you earn $15/hour and you push the vacuum for about 1/2hour a week then the payback on any robotic vacuum is about a year.
@ergomeh And that doesn't factor in count the cost of the push vacuum.
@cengland0 Then again, I know people who still was dishes by hand...
@ergomeh I love your logic.
@MrMark If a waitress at the Cheese Cake Factory can afford an appartment in Pasadena then the $420 for a vacauum should be nothing and you can get back to the show...
I fear the coming robot revolution.
Woot is offering the DC41 Animal today with choice of turbine tool for $199. And it's purple.
If I recall correctly, it's a better deal than what Meh recently offered, albeit without the extended warranty.
I have to wonder how much the Roomba 790 will be selling for over there next week. ;)
@eyewerks Meh price was $180 - 260. $180 for the base and $260 for the Frankenstein Can't remember what the Animal one cost but it was clearly between those two prices.
@cengland0 Exactly. TRANSLATION FOR THE KOOL-AID INTOXICATED: Woot seems to have better prices.
Oh man, I wish! If I had $420 to blow on a multipurpose cat toy robot vacuum, I'd be all over it! Some day, meh... some day.
NEATO FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The write-up is right up my alley. I love saving more money. I'm saving $420 right now.
If you had just offered this for $210 I would have looked at this and said "Wow...210 bucks...too rich for my blood"
No Georgia Red. . . for that alone meh . . or possibly Gilt.
@mfladd g'head- rescue another cat. the attitude'll be similar, the sex won't change and it'll cost less to feed the cat
@mfladd do you have any long hair dogs? I own two samoyeds and my dyson sometimes has issues with the hair, so i imagine a roomba would just explode. But i want one!

@clarinetbob How about $500 clarinets?
@darksaber99999 Or a $500 saber?
@clarinetbob Meh, I already got one in my fuko.
@darksaber99999 seriously?!
@march5th00 https://meh.com/forum/topics/official-fukobukuro-reveal-thread#552852071d5a16bc07301c1b Yep.
WoW....... $420.00.......I don't even have that much money in my 401k !
For $420 she better do my laundry and cook my dinner after she sweeps the floors.
Great, something that is more money than I want to pay for. Again. (But how unique to sell a Roomba on a deal a day site)
Tomorrow will probably be refurbished Dyson's and of course on Friday, Speaker docs. Very, Very Meh....
@mdrcoast Or a knife.
If I was rich enough to afford a $500 product, do you think I'd be on MEH.COM??!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?
no i wouldn't
@sarahtarah You're in luck then. It's only $420.
Lot of anger here.

A Woot oldie but goodie. I replaced the battery a few times and that is it.
My wife saw this and wanted me to buy it...
I said, 'Meh, get off your ass and sweep the floors yourself.'
Now, if this could mow lawns...
Meh, she does that already...
Can it be reprogramed to deliver a cold beer?
If so, sign me up!
