Inflatable of the Day 4/9
11Today, we are going to meet another large custom inflatable: the G&G Fox! This guy is a classic, one of the earlier custom toys, released some time around 2007, and is now very highly desirable and valuable. The last Fox I remember coming up for auction on eBay sold for over $1,200. He’s a very cute design, with big, expressive eyes, a wide smile, tall pointy ears and curly tail. Each of his legs and his tail inflate separately. My Fox, who is named Nate, was one of the best gifts I have ever received; he came from an ex-boyfriend many years ago whom I’m still good friends with. Nate went to stay with another friend of mine a few years ago and unfortunately came back in poor shape…his back seam was blown open about 6 inches and he was all scuffed up! I’ve slowly been working on getting him back into shape, so he hasn’t been out on display in a while. Don’t worry though, he will be all better soon!

That’s a good name.
@Nate311 My ex named him after his previous ex! Haha
Awwww.
I’m not going to ask… glad he’s doing better!!
@llangley That’s what happens when you overinflate and leave outside in a swimming pool on a hot day x.x
Haha, doesn’t get much more furry than this. Pretty cute
@Bandrik Glad you approve uwu
@PooltoyWolf Oh I know where this is going owo
Haha
@Bandrik I’m sure you do owo
@PooltoyWolf Ô///w///Ô
@Bandrik -notices ur bulge-
…God, that was painful to type. LOL
@PooltoyWolf Oh gosh you actually went there HAHAHA. Well at least you acknowledge your sins. XD
@Bandrik I tend to throw caution to the wind LOL
Loving your toys. How do you fix them? You mentioned patches previously, can you reseal seams?
@callow Indeed you can! I use a glue made by Loctite specifically for vinyl, in conjunction with patches or strips of clear scrap vinyl.
@PooltoyWolf Never sewn? I know someone who worked for an inflatables company doing sewing. I thought about it but it really stinks, literally.
@callow Typically sewing is relegated to inflatables that use a blower to stay inflated, like bounce houses and large advertisement inflatables (think Car Fox), and those Airblown inflatables you see on lawns for holidays. A stitch is not airtight, so would not work on a toy that doesnt have a continuous supply of air into it.
@PooltoyWolf That makes perfect sense!
Can you repaint them? Is there some kind of special vinyl paint? Liquid latex?
@RiotDemon Repainting is a tricky issue. Regular paint either doesn’t stick, or flakes off when the vinyl bends and flexes. Special vinyl paint is available, but it can be difficult to find an exact color match for the factory paint.
@PooltoyWolf @RiotDemon
So when you patch them do you see the big patch or do you somehow cover it up or disguise it?
@RiotDemon @star2236 Most of the time the repairs aren’t what I’d call ugly or unsightly, so I don’t bother trying to hide them. Holes and leaks just come with the territory sometimes, heh!
