@nolrak@simplersimon What constitutes “the original Garfield”? The very first strip? Jim Davis is still authoring the comic and recylcing the same half dozen jokes that he has been doing since 1978.
@DrWorm@simplersimon This is a fair question – I meant the original animated series, which I found to be pretty well written on the whole. (There’s apparently a new CGI series that is sort of terrible)
@nolrak Fair enough. It’s a matter of perspective, but I would have never even have dreamed of classifying “Garfield and Friends” as the “original”, since it came 10 years after the cat’s debut. But then again, I still reads dozens of daily comics (but not “Garfield”) in an age when newspapers are on the verge of extinction.
@DrWorm That’s fair too – I remember the comic strip long before seeing the animated series, but I think I was in the mindset of the TV show based on the comment on the voice.
@DrWorm@nolrak Yep… I’m that guy that still gets the paper thrown into his yard everyday.
Interesting side note: Saw a reference to an old newspaper article about the first female cop in MGM the other day and they said the news was buried on page 58. Shit, I hardly get 58 pages in a WEEK now…
@nolrak@simplersimon@ybmuG I have no idea what this comment has to do with this particular thread, but flattery will get you everywhere. Or at least it will get you a heartfelt Thank You.
@cinoclav@nolrak@simplersimon its the way replies get posted here - always at the bottom. It was meant as a retort to nolrak’s statement that the original Garfield was outstanding.
@ybmuG I knew what it was in response to, I just wasn’t sure the connection. Alas, it was really just a dig at our current goat. Which I appreciate even more than the comment itself.
@lseeber If you are referring to the Moggy tune, NPR used to have a show on Saturday afternoons (I think) called Simply Folk that used to play all kinds of cool (sometimes humorous) folk tunes. Not sure if it still plays in the MN market…
@lseeber This would have been the late 70’s when we lived across the upper part of MN (St. Cloud, Moohead, Detroit Lakes, Hibbing, In’tl Falls, back to DL, then over to Stevens Point WI)
Now live in (central) Ala-dam-a as well.
Odie, but for a different reason. Where the common bile duct and the pancreatic duct meet the duodenum (small bowel), there’s a contractible muscle called the Sphincter of Oddi. I had always remembered the name of this in school and to this day by associating it with Garfield’s Odie.
The voice in my head sounds remarkably like Lorenzo Music.
@mossygreen the surprisingly superior choice
@mossygreen The voice in my head sounds remarkably like the doorman from Rhoda
@mossygreen @nolrak Carlton, your doorman!
@mossygreen @nolrak is he telling you that you need to be the goat you were destined to be?
By being mostly unentertaining.

@nolrak I said mostly, and I stand by it.

@nolrak @simplersimon the last goat, @cinoclav, was outstanding…

@cinoclav yes, it’s a job never done…
@mfladd
@lseeber @mfladd I still sing that from time to time…
@lseeber @mfladd @ybmuG
or this (dark) classic folk song
@mfladd @ybmuG Yeah… my kids do too. I remember getting my daughter a tshirt with that song on it.
@chienfou @mfladd @ybmuG haha. Never heard that one. Heard one sort of similar yrs ago but not that one.

@chienfou Ah… ok. Never did hear of the show… other than visiting a daughter and grands there, I only lived in MN short time in 70s. Bama Rama now.

Utter contempt for most everything.

I never know how to answer these weird job interview questions!

Too fat, and loving it.
I’m a cat person. :3

Sleep a whole lot.
@ZeroCharisma a fellow /r/imsorryjon fan
@evbarnstormer @ZeroCharisma yep
Don’t really care for dogs or people that are Nermal-like
Odie, but for a different reason. Where the common bile duct and the pancreatic duct meet the duodenum (small bowel), there’s a contractible muscle called the Sphincter of Oddi. I had always remembered the name of this in school and to this day by associating it with Garfield’s Odie.
@cinoclav “Teacher, will we ever use this information in our lives?” Question answered!
@cinoclav @ybmuG That’s weird, because just a few years ago I was having Billary pains.
@cinoclav @therealjrn didn’t we have those from 1993-2001?
@cinoclav @ybmuG I think they were contagious.
@cinoclav @therealjrn @ybmuG Yeah, but they’re sorta like shingles… never really gone. Keep cropping up every now and then creating pain.
@cinoclav @lseeber @ybmuG
@cinoclav @therealjrn @ybmuG
I own a cat. I once owned an orange cat named Garfield and a dog named Odie. There was also a man in my house named John.
Because lasagna is one of my favorite meals!
Unlike Garfield, I LIKE Monday’s!!
I’d probably also be a meh
president
@chienfou hopefully not ending the same way!
My vote, other. I was created to generate maximum revenue for my creator.
@j37hr0 This seems kind of dark
@j37hr0 @nolrak Dark like the hole you’re in?
I have legit, diagnosed narcolepsy, so I’d say sleeping, I sleep like Garfield. Also, lasagna. Love some lasagna!!
@Gypsigirl213 I would be very careful about face planting into molten lasagna
I feel this poll is just a sneaky way for a Meh staffer to prove he’s not the only one who hears Bill Murray.
@DrunkCat shouldn’t we all hear him? Especially if we are drunk cats
Lasagna!! My daughter made it for everyone yesterday!
@misspattybr she didn’t send me any. I think I count as part of everyone. I hope
We are both fictional characters.
