@RedOak I have no real desire to be able to change the colors of my lights. I have a friend who got the Hue lights and it looks kind of nifty, but I still can’t think of a situation where that would be an improvement. Maybe running accent lighting around the deck…
@jqubed yah, we picked up a set of those cheap, ubiquitous eBay rainbow on a coil with a credit card remote LED light strips. But it was a Christmas gift toy for our 13 year, old at the time, son. He had fun with it but now it sits collecting cobwebs in his closet.
@jqubed The neat thing about the Hue is the auto on and the ability to auto shift color for night. I do not have it so I am not sure it requires a Nest. https://justgetflux.com/research.html
@caffeine_dude I might be a hoarder but I’m also a conflicted minimalist. In spite of others’ proclamations, I just don’t get the lights behind the TV thing. Simplicity.
Many years ago when I constructed the media wall in my man cave, I included backlit toe kicks (half height glass block). Would not do that again… even tho it gave me an excuse to buy some rolls of the LED lights sold here on Meh to replace the (expensive) original incandescent light strips that were failing.
After Thanksgiving (because I’m not one of those wackos that puts up Christmas decorations before Thanksgiving, dear) I put red and green lights in the recessed cans on our porch. I’d like to put some of the Hue or Lightify color changing lights out there so I can just tell them to be Christmas-y from the warmth of the living room but no one makes an R20 size smart bulb.
@plastrd I do the same thing, but in the floodlights over our garage. I picked up a pair of the “ilumi br30 outdoor” flood lamps when they were on sale and they’re awesome. I had them both orange for Halloween, changing them to orange/red for Thanksgiving, and ultimately red/green for Christmas.
…not sure what to do with my stock of various-colored “regular” flood lights now…
Rec room. It’s where we spend pretty much all of our time.
@thumperchick can we please get a typo correction in here? “able top change”
@curtise It’s because that’s where the lights are: at the “top” of the room. It was just shorthand. Maybe?
@curtise see the “faux pas” video.
@curtise This typo is the reason I came to this thread. Was not disappointed.
@Andrew_B Not a chance.
You know, sometimes I think my basement just isn’t dingy enough. I bet a yellowy-orange glow could help with that.
Tetris room.
I have LIFX lights in the living room and bedroom. I answered “living room” because that’s where I put the first ones.
How about a room in someone else’s house?
@baqui63 Best. Idea. Yet.
Party on the patio
None. What’s wrong with leaving the lighting color alone once it’s correct?
On/Off/Dimmer is plenty.
… and please, no blinking/flashing/strobing/SOS/etc…
