@werehatrack I am willing to bet money the USB port on this guy is standard 2.4A, perhaps even less than that. I have a smaller iHome unit that is vaguely similar in purpose, and its USB port only provides 1A current. (Though I suppose this IS good for the assumed purpose of slow charging your phone overnight while you wait for the alarm clock to wake you up.)
“USB port allows you to charge other USB-enabled devices (not included)”
So does it come with a USB port or not? Or are you trying to say that other USB-enabled devices aren’t included? Maybe they meant to say that a USB cable isn’t included? That would make the most sense, but someone needs to hire a new copywriter!
@ciabelle Neither a usb cable nor any additional USB devices are included. Just the USB port, with no specs given concerning it’s capabilities. As someone else has pointed out, even if it’s just a 1 amp 5 watt port, usage to charge something overnight is probably still going to work. I’m betting that it’s probably closer to 2 amps or maybe even 2.4, but it would sure be nice to have that explicitly stated.
I never understood why alarm clock manufacturers continue to put the snooze button so close to the other buttons. When the alarm goes off and I’m only semi-conscious, I don’t want to have to hunt for the snooze button or run the risk of hitting another button that changes the settings or shuts it off completely.
Hrmm. My phone is a better alarm clock than any dedicated device. I have smart routines going off when I turn off the alarm. I already have a nice BT speaker. So really, the only appeal is the clock portion.
@pixelated iHome’s stuff isnt bad, honestly. It’s not phenomenal, but I’ve owned and used a dozen or so of their various speaker products over the years, and I’ve never had a ‘bad’ one.

This looks like my alarm clock, which I’ve owned for like 5 years at this point. I love it for one specific reason - complete darkness. We have an alarm scheduled set and we can dim the light completely. It’s awesome.

No purple tooth? Pass.
Yay! Speaker dock.
Well, speaker charger.
No specs given for the USB charging capability, so that’s a dubious item.
@werehatrack Well considering lots were sold in 2018 and 2019 (based on review dates) I think you’d need to go back in time to find out.
@Kidsandliz @werehatrack 2.21Ghz!
@werehatrack I’d assume it is slow, but since you’re mostly going to be using it to charge stuff overnight that should be fine.

@werehatrack the default marketing text from iHome says it’s a 1 amp (i.e. 5W) output. FWIW, it’s also USB-A port.
And it both includes & doesn’t include two batteries for backup.
@gertiestn Whoopsies
@gertiestn It seems clear to me. It offers battery backup and doesn’t include the AA batteries.
@gertiestn It can both require 2 AA batteries for the time keeping backup AND include the first set of them. Mind blowing.
@gertiestn Schrodinger’s batteries?
@Trinityscrew The description was changed after my post (thus the “Whoopsies” ).

@ciabelle And another user found what appears to be a spec for that port; 1 amp, 5 watts. That meets nobody’s current definition of “fast”.
No AM, no deal either
@rjquillin no better alarm than an early morning AM talk show
@hchavers @rjquillin Not wild about a clock that only works 12 hours per day.
@rjquillin Killed it for me too.
@IAMIS @mehcuda67 @hchavers
And here I thought I’d be the only one…
/showme the alarm clock apocalypse
Aclockalypse?
Well there is a chance you’ll hear margaritaville on it

@heartny My 40+ year old digital alarm clock has the snooze on top and the kill on the end. Its timer has begun to sag a bit, but it still works.
I think it’s this

I don’t see charging specs.
Yep, need those important charging specs. And always need pictures of any sides that contain any ports.

If it’s from iHome, it’s going to be Meh

@pixelated iHome’s stuff isnt bad, honestly. It’s not phenomenal, but I’ve owned and used a dozen or so of their various speaker products over the years, and I’ve never had a ‘bad’ one.
@PooltoyWolf who said Meh means “bad”? Isn’t this meh.com? It means products that’s not so bad, but not that great either.
Meh
@pixelated Sorry, must have misinterpreted your intent. In my personal experience, iHome stuff tends to be pretty good.

DIPLOMAT! RAT-A-TAT! FAT CAT! AWESOME!
I just got mine and love it. The light is bright enough and there’s a spot to wirelessly charge my phone.
The only downside is that it doesn’t tell the time, have an alarm, or play music.
In retrospect, I think Meh accidentally send me a lamp…
