I wear combat boots every day. They’re good in every kind of weather, they go with everything I’m likely to wear, and I pay extra for the good ones, so they can stand up to all the abuse country life can throw at 'em.
My favorites are a pair of steel toe Wellcos I got when they liquidated. $40 at Ollie’s, and they only just now need a resole after five years of near-daily farm and factory wear. Helps that they were actually intended to go into combat.
@dannybeans I wear some trail running shoes with a very similar justification. Don’t wind up outside in them that much, but I don’t have to think about it when I do.

I wear Danner hiking shoes most of the time. Very comfortable and my feet don’t hurt at the end of the day. I had a pair of Danner police shoes that were the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever had. When I went to replace them, I found they had discontinued that model and didn’t have a direct replacement. Still searching.
In my old age, I find I can’t go barefoot anymore. I really like FitFlops. Been wearing them for 15 years. They support me everywhere I need them too, and I have settled into a couple of lovely pairs, one black one white, buying every few years (they ain’t cheap, but you can find them on sale) They also make my calves look badass.
Birkenstocks. If it isn’t snowing, I wear them year round. Ended my bouts of plantar fasciitis, less strain on my knees and back (good-bye 4" heels). Vionics are good too.
I voted for flipflops as those for me are synonymous with sun, sand, surfing, scuba diving, and being at a beach bar with steel drums playing in the background.
