@jbartus@connorbush. Weird, me too! Oh wait, I live here. And neither of you told me you were coming? Pancakes people, we could have gotten pancakes! Or uh, you know… Something Phillyish like cheesesteaks.
@MehllowMiserian@carl669 Agreed. Hot dogs only get mustard and red pepper relish (green - if don’t have access too it). I have family members send me this from MA in large quantities.
It is the bee’s knees.
@carl669 Anyone putting ketchup on a cheesesteak probably spells it catsup - they are culinary trash.
@mfladd guilty as charged but I plead innocent for reasons of not having been invited to get pancakes cheesecake pretzels or any other Philly ish stuff when I revealed my impending travel plans in the root beer thread!
@carl669 Oh God - Neither! They both suck. My first pick is the cheesesteak at John’s Roast Pork. It was a finalist in Adam Richman’s Best Sandwich in America. From there you can road trip it to Dalessandro’s, Joe’s (formerly Chink’s), Steve’s or Mama’s. Jim’s is acceptable but somewhat more ‘common’. There are plenty more that kick the crap out of Pat’s and Geno’s. The only reason for going to either of those are simply to say you did, or if it’s 4 am and no one else is open. The first pic is from John’s and the second is from Mama’s, where you seriously do not want to order the large cheesesteak for one person.
@jbartus You should have updated your travel plans and tagged us! I would’ve happily meht everyone out last night! In the future, if anyone is going to be in Philly and wants to meet up, just say so!
@cinoclav where were you to guide me when i visited 15 years ago? part of the reason she took me to pat’s is because she only lived a few blocks away and we were far too drunk to walk anywhere else.
@carl669 I have a friend who lives around the corner from Pat’s. Her daughter literally lives next door to Pat’s. Her window looks right down on it. Neither go to Pat’s or Geno’s. As for your reason to visit, being too drunk to walk anywhere else is just barely acceptable. I’ll let you slide this time.
@jbartus I am calling you out on this one from the root beer thread
@brhfl I’m going to be driving through your neck of the woods in about
three weeks, can you get me a list of places to check out for
interesting offerings? Specific recommendations are most welcome.
jbartus said Sat, May 28th 2016 at 10:14pm eastern
@jbartus now you are scaring me. We could have a meet up between you, me, brhfl, and cinoclav. mfladd said Sat, May 28th 2016 at 10:22pm
eastern
@mfladd that didn’t really specifically tell me anything about Philly since I got the impression you lived in Maryland from the tunnel-bridge discussion.
@cinoclav a Google Form-driven document would probably work better from a search-ability standpoint.
@sohmageek I am contemplating bringing my new car to Vermont to let it consume some comparatively unfinished roads.
@jbartus I do, but I am 2 hrs from Philly and my business territory takes me all the way up to Wilmington, DE. Don’t make excuses for not notifying us.
Honestly a google doc requires administration to a level that makes it a pain in the ass. I’m working on a meh related side site, I’ll see what I can come up with in terms of some sort of easy to use roster system.
@connorbush You asshole. You were only an hour and a half from me. I also cover Dover, DE for work. We could have had pancakes! Hope you had a great time at the festival!
@mfladd i could have used some flapjacks! It was quite an experience!! I need a vacation and some tlc to recover. Maybe I’ll live stream myself eating pancakes.
@carl669 So Ben Simmons is on Jimmy Fallon right now. Fallon offered him a cheesesteak from Dalessandro’s, one of my recommendations above. Good stuff!
@mfladd Only if you don’t ever use the word ‘sub’ around here. You’ve seen what Philly sports fans do to other teams fans right? That goes for sandwich tourists too. There are only two acceptable words for sandwiches on long rolls in Philly: Cheesesteaks and Hoagies.
@mikibell I have never heard “wedge” before. We have a PrimoHoagies here, where I live in MD, so I understand @cinoclavs hoagie usage since it is Philly based. But being from MA I don’t ever remember the Hoagie term being used - do they use it in NY?
@mfladd yes…At IBM headquarters was where I first encountered a “wedge”… I guess it makes sense, kinda…but I call them Grinders…not to be confused with a cheeeeessseeesteak…yummmy…
@carl669@mfladd@cinoclav I think we can all agree that any cheesesteak in Philly is better than the abominations served elsewhere (with the exception of an awesome place in California) with that name (I’m looking at you Hot Pockets cheesesteak sandwich!).
@dashcloud I’d say almost any. There are a few wannabe joints in the city. I actually had a phenomenal cheesesteak just outside of Vegas year ago. Of course the owner had been from Philly and had rolls shipped in daily.
@jbartus sure. but there’s the literal definition and then the assumed definition. if someone says, “let’s go get some cheesesteak”, and then put that thing in front of me… well, that’s asking for a beat down of mehcronomic proportions.
Wait. You’re in Philly? What a coincidence…
@jbartus I should probably clarify this… I’m in the greater Philly area tonight as well.
@jbartus @connorbush. Weird, me too! Oh wait, I live here. And neither of you told me you were coming? Pancakes people, we could have gotten pancakes! Or uh, you know… Something Phillyish like cheesesteaks.
@jbartus @connorbush What @cinoclav said.
@jbartus @connorbush @cinoclav What @ACraigL said
@callow here for the night. Now off to Delaware. I guess i have to cheese steak for breakfast, haven’t had one yet .
@connorbush what? where the hell are you going in DE?
@cinoclav I think @jbartus and @connorbush were criminally negligent to not notify us they were in the area. And now WE are out panckes! pfft!
@dashcloud It is you who are to blame!
@cinoclav @mfladd pat’s or geno’s cheesesteaks?
@carl669 Jim’s!
@mfladd i know not of Jim’s. then again, i’ve only been to Philly thrice and went to Pat’s all 3 times. mainly because that’s where my friend took me.
@carl669

@mfladd “…and don’t eff it up by putting ketchup on it”
who the fucking hell would ever put ketchup on a cheesesteak?!?!
@carl669 I have no idea. That is just f’n wrong.
@mfladd seriously. it’s almost as bad as putting ketchup on a hot dog.
@carl669
Let’s have a Meh BBQ and see who puts ketchup on their hot dogs so that we can eternally shame them.
@MehllowMiserian @carl669 Agreed. Hot dogs only get mustard and red pepper relish (green - if don’t have access too it). I have family members send me this from MA in large quantities.
It is the bee’s knees.
@carl669 Anyone putting ketchup on a cheesesteak probably spells it catsup - they are culinary trash.
@mfladd hubby loves that relish…gotta send you some Blackie’s relish when I get a moment!
@mikibell you are so sweet!
@mfladd i’ve taught the boy the correct hot dogs ways from early on. but, i still quiz him from time to time.
me: do you want ketchup on your hot dog?
boy: NO!! ketchup is for fries!
me: so say we all.
(actually, i think i’m going to have to teach him “so say we all”.)
@connorbush I graduated from UofD. Why the hell are you going to Delaware?
@DaveInSoCal hahaha…you are a blue hen?
Is Flacco your UandD hero?
@callow @ACraigL @cinoclav not pretzels?
@mfladd guilty as charged but I plead innocent for reasons of not having been invited to get pancakes cheesecake pretzels or any other Philly ish stuff when I revealed my impending travel plans in the root beer thread!
@mfladd My dad calls us the “Angry Chickens.”
@jbartus BS…you mentioned driving from Ft. Lauderdale and said to contact us!!!
@mfladd no ketchup on cheese steak, but Tomato sauce… it’s the NEPA in me…
@jbartus You should have updated your travel plans and tagged us! I would’ve happily meht everyone out last night! In the future, if anyone is going to be in Philly and wants to meet up, just say so!
@sohmageek Aka: Pizza steak
@cinoclav yum. I have had neither of those, but they are now on the radar when I am in town.
@cinoclav where were you to guide me when i visited 15 years ago? part of the reason she took me to pat’s is because she only lived a few blocks away and we were far too drunk to walk anywhere else.
@cinoclav we call it cheesesteak hoagie with red sauce
@carl669 I have a friend who lives around the corner from Pat’s. Her daughter literally lives next door to Pat’s. Her window looks right down on it. Neither go to Pat’s or Geno’s. As for your reason to visit, being too drunk to walk anywhere else is just barely acceptable. I’ll let you slide this time.
@carl669 Sigh. My oldest (15) is so in love with ketchup that he puts it on damn near everything; the other kid (13) eats no condiments of any kind
@compunaut well, at least he’s not hooked on catsup.
@jbartus You can have the best of both worlds
@sohmageek A cheesesteak hoagie has some combination of lettuce, tomato, onion, and/or mayo.
@mfladd I had the note ready, then it was food time, then I got sleepy, and when I woke up, completely forgot about it.
@callow ew
@callow Cheeseburger hoagie I’ve had (quite good), but can’t remember having a cheesesteak hoagie.
@cinoclav @mfladd I have no idea who lives where, is there a Meh roster somewhere that I can reference on my next road trip? O_o
@jbartus I am calling you out on this one from the root beer thread
hmmmmm…
@compunaut i think ketchup on dogs is just fine, but young kids can often inform us in ways we can’t understand
@DMlivezey
Absolutely No Ketchup!
@callow Correctamundo
@jbartus A meh roster… Sounds like the impetus for a new thread. People can generalize where they live if they’re too paranoid.
@jbartus I’m also in Philly; nearly every weekday.
@jbartus Vermont here…
I can find you some good Beer, and Rootbeer…
@sohmageek Bring me some Capt’n Eli’s!
@cinoclav ?
@mfladd I posted that I was in Philly almost as soon as I got to philly!
To be fair I was only there for ~15 hours
Tactfully neglects to mention the 48 hours he spent in Rockville
@jbartus
:)~
@mfladd is Rockville close to you? To be fair I had other plans which is why I never mentioned it… one of which cancelled on me
@sohmageek Root beer man… root beer!
@jbartus I thought about the Google doc too. But it would probably be best for one person to be responsible for it.
I never saw you post you were in town, otherwise I’d have responded. I’m easy enough to reach, same name at gmail.
@cinoclav
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Honestly a google doc requires administration to a level that makes it a pain in the ass. I’m working on a meh related side site, I’ll see what I can come up with in terms of some sort of easy to use roster system.
@DaveInSoCal I was in DE for Firefly Music Festival.
@jbartus Need some sort of root beer sampling database, too. Perhaps @SpenceMan01 can get us started
/giphy root beer sampling
@connorbush You asshole. You were only an hour and a half from me. I also cover Dover, DE for work. We could have had pancakes! Hope you had a great time at the festival!
@compunaut If @jbartus wants to set up said functionality, I’ll gladly provide my meager sampling notes to seed the system.
@mfladd i could have used some flapjacks! It was quite an experience!! I need a vacation and some tlc to recover. Maybe I’ll live stream myself eating pancakes.
@connorbush
I would probably watch that.
@carl669 So Ben Simmons is on Jimmy Fallon right now. Fallon offered him a cheesesteak from Dalessandro’s, one of my recommendations above. Good stuff!
@cinoclav If I come up there you taking me out for this sub.
@cinoclav we will go with cheesesteaks then. I have never liked the word hoagie.
@mfladd worse… A “wedge”…never understood that one…
@mikibell I have never heard “wedge” before. We have a PrimoHoagies here, where I live in MD, so I understand @cinoclavs hoagie usage since it is Philly based. But being from MA I don’t ever remember the Hoagie term being used - do they use it in NY?
@mfladd yes…At IBM headquarters was where I first encountered a “wedge”… I guess it makes sense, kinda…but I call them Grinders…not to be confused with a cheeeeessseeesteak…yummmy…
@mikibell See now grinders I am familiar with. I just have been away from NE for so long I forgot.
If only there was someone to blame for that …
/giphy who to blame
@kc5rbq
/giphy whom to blame
Not in Philly, but considering a cheesesteak in honor of the coincidence above.
@carl669 @mfladd @cinoclav I think we can all agree that any cheesesteak in Philly is better than the abominations served elsewhere (with the exception of an awesome place in California) with that name (I’m looking at you Hot Pockets cheesesteak sandwich!).
@dashcloud I’d say almost any. There are a few wannabe joints in the city. I actually had a phenomenal cheesesteak just outside of Vegas year ago. Of course the owner had been from Philly and had rolls shipped in daily.
Food porn for @dashcloud
@carl669 @mfladd Does this cheesesteak get you excited?
@jbartus Please don’t ruin ‘porn’ for us.
@dashcloud No. It’s like the equivalent of nursing home porn.
@dashcloud this cheesesteak makes me sad.
@carl669 so you are admitting that the cheesesteak hot pocket qualifies as a cheesesteak?
@jbartus oh hell no. that’s like saying cereal isn’t a soup.
@carl669 but you just called it a cheesesteak.
@jbartus sure. but there’s the literal definition and then the assumed definition. if someone says, “let’s go get some cheesesteak”, and then put that thing in front of me… well, that’s asking for a beat down of mehcronomic proportions.
@carl669 I think you secretly enjoy those Hot Pockets and don’t want anybody to know it.
@jbartus Only the dog secretly enjoys those Hot Pockets
@compunaut tell that to @carl669
@jbartus @carl669, I think we need an official Hot Pockets ruling from your Mehcrominicon thingy
@compunaut @carl669 is a closet hot pocket fanboy, he can’t be trusted to interpret the good book in this case!
