So, I received my 1st IRK and I received a broken( smashed) planter, a bag, socks and trackers. My family thinks I am crazy for ordering junk. Does anyone else’s family think this is a total waste of money?
It’s total luck of the draw. They’re called instant regret kits for a reason. I’ve had some fantastic ones and some not so fantastic ones. I received a smashed mug once so I feel your pain. I won’t stop the hunt for the IRK though. I love the whole process.
Sounds about par for the course. Broken is better than getting something someone returned with their DNA all over it (which I have gotten). Half the fun is getting a box that you have no idea what is in it. But then you might get someone wonderful like I did (X box series x) and all the crap you have gotten before and will get after is quickly forgotten.
@dam091 Yes-It was unboxed but wrapped in bubble wrap. dsjack got the box for it filled with books in prev IRK. Sent it to my son and he registered it, found it had never been registered and was able to take out an extended warranty on it.
@dam091@Felton10 sometimes they send over the top prizes. One time I received a robotic (roomba-esque)vacuum/mop combo. So it is worth the weird boxes if you finally get a gold star!!
@dam091 Nope-just lucky I guess and the rest of the stuff in the IRK wasn’t bad either as you can see. Someone got a Sony Playstation in their IRK during the next mehrathon. From what I have seen, those were the two of the best things ever gotten in an IRK.
Even though I know I will never get anything like that again, still the thrill of the unknown keeps me coming back for more. And at the very least, getting something like that keeps my wife from saying you will never get anything good and it is a waste of money.
@dam091@Felton10 I still don’t fully understand this one. The presence of an Xbox Series X inside an IRK implies that Meh or one of its sister sites sold Xbox Series X consoles at one time, or at least that’s what makes the most sense to me. I have personally never seen any IRK contents that weren’t sold on one of the Mercatalyst sites at some point in the past.
@dam091@PooltoyWolf I agree with you-this was totally out of character for what is usually in an IRK. But you didn’t see me or the person who got the Playstation complaining did you?
It had a manufacturer date on the back of Oct so I got it less than two months after it was made I know it was new.
@dam091@Felton10@PooltoyWolf It was around Christmas the year you couldn’t even buy that console if you had the cash. They were obviously trying to do a special thing.
And if you keep bringing up the Xbox we’ll just have more people like this guy who only drop by to grab irks with their high speed internet connections and the regulars will have fewer and fewer chances to get anything at all, even a smashed up planter.
@dam091@Felton10@PooltoyWolf@sammydog01 meh that implies you can figure out when they will occur and if they can be botted at all it was already hopeless if someone wanted too always get an irk.
They’ve probably been occasionally seeded here and there just cause being nice. the premise that occasionally once in a while you get a good thing off the pallet/return pile or now and then they toss one in. Better places to waste your effort. If more idiots are attracted meh.
@Felton10@PooltoyWolf@sammydog01@unksol I’ve never really understood the irk buying impulse. I’ve gotten one. Maybe because I didn’t get anything too exciting in it. But to each his own.
What I’d really like is if meh would still send out an email and Twitter reminder if there’s a mehrathon happening. I usually check meh when I get that email, or if I happen to be up after midnight and I get the Twitter notification. When there’s a mehrathon, neither happens for whatever reason. Sometimes I miss the whole day.
As far as the emails and mehrathon. I guess if you wanted to compete over irks the whole day that might be why they don’t? Idk I just check it in the morning, scroll through the previous sales, know I’m never going to get one but I still try now and then. Helps to be meh about it.
Still a little be up at midnight if you want to get in on it like the old days lol
@dam091@PooltoyWolf@sammydog01 So would you rather I never mention it again? Was only adding my two cents in to a ? asked by a first time IRK recipient that he shouldn’t give up as there are some real treasures periodically placed in IRKs.
If you are so concerned about people with fast connections who drop by only to grab IRKs and then disappear, you could always make it easier for us long time meh customers to get IRKs such as having more than 30 at time and therefore minimizing the advantage of those who have fast internet and faster fingers.
Also reinstate the “VMP members” hour and if you want to have one for just members also fine. Reward the people who buy from you rather than complaining about them.
I look at the profile of the person who started this. One purchase, an irk. Not a member. Not a talker. Sure maybe they’ll start buying other stuff. That’s what Meh hopes. But probably not.
Who loses out when people just stop by for irks? Not me. But I see a lot of regulars post that they always used to get irks and don’t get them anymore. Someone is buying them. Maybe these newbies who just buy irks? Probably getting pinged from a social media site when there’s a mehrathon?
So yeah they were getting ready to stop buying them and you said OH YOU MIGHT GET AN XBOX. They’ll be back, probably just for irks. And they’ll tell their friends and co-workers. And it will be less likely you guys will be able to buy them.
It’s good for Meh. Not so good for you.
As for VMP hour that ship sailed a long time ago. Most of the people who are here keeping the company afloat never had a chance to become VMPs.
@dam091@PooltoyWolf@unksol It appears that the worthwhile items that come in IRKs usually have some type of packing damage. The items seem to be new with all parts and instruction-just damaged packaging that they probably couldn’t ship to people who bought things on MS or SD. I’m sure they are any number of such damaged boxes when things are bought in bulk like that and those things are saved for IRKs.
@Felton10@PooltoyWolf@sammydog01 he said vmps AND members. There’s no reason why there can’t be more irks exclusively for members, including vmps. Besides, it’s not like the contents of these irks are really random. There’s no machine stocking these things. What’s stopping the company from checking who’s buying, and doling them out accordingly? And why isn’t there a limit on buying irks, like if you get one, you can’t get another that mehrathon?
@sammydog01, do you work here? Because if you do, maybe work on your customer service skills. You’re talking to customers here.
@dam091 Perhaps you should check @sammydog01’s profile. She’s a helluva lot bigger customer here than you are. Besides, she’s expressing an opinion, just like you are, but she’s far more knowledgeable about what goes on around here than you.
Now on the bright side, you can only buy one IRK each mehrathon.
@Barney@sammydog01 The way they were speaking made it seem like they were representing the company. If they did represent it, they should be less abrasive when interacting with customers. If they don’t, well, I guess they’re just another keyboard warrior.
Their purchase and forum history doesn’t concern me. It doesn’t make their comments any bigger or bolder than mine. We were having a conversation, they chose to butt in and reprimand the other guy.
I always think that it’s karma when someone, who has never bought anything before on Meh, manages to snag an IRK and then gets some really crappy stuff.
Many people only come here during Mehrathons to try for an IRK. Many of them succeed. But I don’t think it’s fair to all of the mehtizens who follow Meh regularly. Some of these people have been here for years and have not gotten an IRK.
So come back and complain after you’ve purchased a few items and I will show you some sympathy. Maybe.
@Barney I think you bring up a really good point and something I’ve thought about a few times(usually after a failed quest to score an IRK).
I’m personally not the one keeping Meh out of the red, or whatever color their finances put them in. I just looked over my account and I place about 9 or 10 orders a year, with about 20% of those orders being irks. I’m guessing that makes my IRK to “regular” orders somewhat high? Maybe? Curious what other people’s irks to orders ratios are.
I think the way Meh tries to be fair to the regulars is that they generally have a “Members Only” hour or two for each “-athon”. That works for me.
@Barney@elfunkman I’m about 20-25 non IRK items a year and about 3 irks a year. (And maybe four or three items a year from side deal)… So what’s that, not doing the maths but guessing about 12% Irks.
My purchases are in bursts because I don’t keep membership running all the time, so when my membership is active I tend to buy more…
I will probably buy less going forward because of that little extra to get the month’s membership takes away the impulse. Often just a dollar seperates the purchase from “impulse buy” to “hmmm… maybe, but, I can do without”… Lol… Psychologically though, there is a bigger gap between $5 and $6 than just $1…
I don’t blame Meh for raising membership costs, I guess they had to, but it does hold me back from impulse buy so much… I don’t come here every day anymore… That and their new IRK policies that only release 30 at a time makes mehrathons less addictive too… Which is making me a waning member. Instead of Meh being my first stop of the morning it has become my afterthought. Honestly, I’ll probably stop coming here eventually.
They gotta do what they gotta do to stay profitable though… Like with the tshirts, when they bumped the price up, it put it out of purchase range so I stopped going to mediocritee… But it probably helped their bottom line, so they’re probably not missing me at mediocritee.
@goober123 Me too. I got a BOC this past April that had an PC video card in it. It was only a GTX 1060, but because of the shortage, those were selling up to $800!
@goober123 I only ever got one BOC from woot… There again, I stopped going after it stopped being a deal a day store and became just a big shop that takes forever to browse.
I’ve been buying stuff from woot/meh since 2004. Never managed a BOC or fuko/fuku/irk. I’ve come close a few times but these days DSL and captcha have me at the point where. Well. Meh.
If your only order is an irk I will not weep for you. But I believe it’s completely random grab bag. So no one’s punishing you lol it just is what it is.
And yes many significant others do think it’s dumb
@unksol My husband brings these monkeys to work. He is a collage professor. He flings them at students who get mouthy. We also got a full sized monkey suit which he has promised to wear on the last day of class.

@unksol yeah I just have them for my niece to play with. They are on her shelf in my office. Cone to think of it I don’t think she has touched them in a while
@tinamarie1974 not like. Bad for the kittiez. Or kids. They are just the right size that if you fire one off around a cat. They are probably going to go into seek and destroy mode. Bad for the poor monkey. If you want it to survive.
@goober123 Bitter? I’ve actually gotten 2 in the few times I’ve tried, and I was thoroughly underwhelmed, as the name portends. I guess I just assumed your post was as ironic as your username is literal. Oh, snap!
Like many others I’ve gotten total junk on occasion - the worst one was literal garbage - 5 sets of used, with ear wax on some, broken ear buds and a bag. I don’t think they realized in advance they were all broken as often things are returned that still work. And on some very rare occasions I have gotten some nice things along with a few things that can be given to my young grandchildren as presents (which they have loved). Those irks have been really nice to have and have come as a major surprise. I never hit the kind of jackpot mentioned earlier in this thread - but then we are talking about likely less than 10 irks/fuku’s/fuko’s out of probably 8-10,000 irks over the years that have the powerball jackpot kind of “winnings”. Anyone know how many have been sold since the start?
I’ve been on here since day 7 or 8 of when they first started up. Over the years I have seen joke ones, good ones, bad ones and stuff in between. Once we all got a t-shirt or two that looked like they came from a thrift store. Some really weird things have been in them too like totum pole things that were really tall, a trailer hand pull thing (I got one of those only unfortunately I had to sell my 16’ sailboat - sad day - but I got lucky and traded it for some car repair at the family owned car shop I go to at a point when I really needed to have been able to do that), a pallet of broken TV’s (of which a couple of working ones were created from that mess), a pallet of peanut butter knifes and a pallet of what people jokingly called seizure glasses, a huge gumball machine… those kinds of irks seem to have ended. Early on more people got jackpot (relatively speaking) irks (fuku’s fuko’s) than now and everyone had a decent chance (which isn’t happening with 100 and less, especially when it is under 50). Early on there were more “good” fuku’s and fuko’s that there are now, but then meh was trying to entice us to come to the site. I am guessing that now much of what goes into the irks are the step before they go to the dumpster (eg clearance sale from the other sites and from this one). Of course I am not privy to what meh why does what it does, I am just guessing. They were also far fewer times a year too with more of them in a sale. It is what it is.
We can try to buy or not realizing we may be putting a match to our money if we get one, unless we get really lucky. The one thing you can count on is an irk bag. They are pretty useful. They don’t last all that long (mine probably would last longer if I was careful what I put in with a gallon of milk) but while they last they are better than a lot of the bags out there. Since I live at the end of a hall and my car is pretty far from the apt building having bags I can put a few plastic grocery bags of groceries in each one (use those plastic bags for cat litter) and it is way easier to carry that junk up to my apt that way.
It’s total luck of the draw. They’re called instant regret kits for a reason. I’ve had some fantastic ones and some not so fantastic ones. I received a smashed mug once so I feel your pain. I won’t stop the hunt for the IRK though. I love the whole process.
Regret achieved.
/giphy congrats

/8ball Did the instant regret kit live up to its name?
Without a doubt

I was just curious as to how it was done. I’m a Nintendo fanboy, you don’t have to worry about me going after an Xbox LOL
@dam091 Take out an ad on Reddit for all I care. I get a free irk every mehrathon- it’s not me you’re screwing over.

So yeah, I found woot BOCs impossible to get…
@werehatrack goober123 isn’t happy with their purchase, even though it seems to be working perfectly. Isn’t that your fault?
@algae1221 it is this month!
Greetings, new robot friend. In time you will come to accept your robotic ways.
Also just as an aside this is my box of woot monkies we used to buy when we missed a boc.
The are many many many more. People used to trade these lol
@unksol I love those monkeys!
@unksol I still have a few. Giant and tiny monkey. I think I got rid of the rest
@unksol My husband brings these monkeys to work. He is a collage professor. He flings them at students who get mouthy. We also got a full sized monkey suit which he has promised to wear on the last day of class.
@Dakini lol we did that at work in 2010. I used to threaten my sister’s husbands I’d give their kids some dupe monkey’s for Christmas to piss my sister’s off
@tinamarie1974 the keychain one are bad to let out around the kittez. I think they just gotten to one once that I rescued.
@unksol your sister has multiple husbands?
@ybmuG yes yes bad ’ placement
@unksol yeah I just have them for my niece to play with. They are on her shelf in my office. Cone to think of it I don’t think she has touched them in a while
@tinamarie1974 not like. Bad for the kittiez. Or kids. They are just the right size that if you fire one off around a cat. They are probably going to go into seek and destroy mode. Bad for the poor monkey. If you want it to survive.
Aww, @goober123, bless your heart!
@ircon96 why so bitter? Sorry, bless your heart that it is so hard for you to get one.
@goober123 Bitter? I’ve actually gotten 2 in the few times I’ve tried, and I was thoroughly underwhelmed, as the name portends. I guess I just assumed your post was as ironic as your username is literal. Oh, snap!
@ircon96 Oh, here I was thinking you were bitter, but you are actually thinking the same as me!
@goober123 Gr8 minds, as they say!
Hey, you could have gotten this:
https://meh.com/forum/topics/end-of-may-irk-reveal#60c674d2f60135001bce65d5
Well maybe the zillion pairs of big woman’s underwear that was posted on this thread might qualify as that. But still that kind of stuff is rare these days. Oh and @koolhandjoe’s unique hand made creations were in some irks a while back which thrilled some people (and creeped out others LOL).

You got a bag? I once got just pieces of a bag. I was probably supposed to sew it together instead of throwing it away.
I once got a dash cam without the mounting bracket or power cable.
