I’ve never caught anything at a wedding, but on three different occasions back in the '70s, when friends were getting hitched, I was urged to join the girls for the bouquet toss, which I did not do. Even that far back, it appears that a lot of my friends knew me better than I did.
@werehatrack Yeah my wedding participations were mostly in the 80’s except a few in the 90s including my own. Amazingly some of those couples are still together; many are not; some I’m not sure about (including my own — long story….)
I always tried to stay away from the garter or bouquet or whatever it was I was supposed to catch but definitely didn’t.
Sad thing but inevitable is that most future assemblages of friends/relatives are likely to be funerals/celebrations-of-life and not weddings.
@werehatrack I went to only one wedding in the '70s when I was about 8. The only thing I caught was a buzz. Both bowls of fruit punch tasted good but one they called a funny name. I think it was sangria they called it.
@pmarin For me, it’s particularly poignant that while I have two wedding gowns (and they both fit), I have never worn one to my own ceremony, nor is it likely that I will in the future; getting married would almost certainly take a budgetary axe to my Social Security.
