I built an HTPC using Windows Media Center and can watch whatever I want that's accessible as a webpage. I can watch Hulu on the TV without needing Hulu+ (as long as its something available on the free Hulu side of things).
@jqubed Same here, been running Netflix to my TV since before it was possible from a game console. I absolutely love it. I love that I can play basically anything without restrictions too.
@hoosier "Set-top box" has become a misnomer. I still see the term used to described a Roku. I think, for the purpose of this survey, that Google Chromecast, Amazon Fire TV sticks are "close enough". (Presuming you do use it in conjunction with a TV)
Roku in the entertainment room, Chromecast in the bedroom, and occasionally I'll plug in my iPad for the couple of channels that aren't supported by the device in the room I'm in.
@Sane While my discontent probably isn't as strong as yours, I am absolutely floored that the Netflix fast-forward and rewind mechanisms, which work perfectly well on a PC, are so inferior on my my TV's streaming devices (consists of crude jumps between still images)
@DrWorm Yep, that's just one of TONS of issues, including efficiency. On the Wii U you can't even resume from where you left off on something... Funny part is I hear the PS3/4 app is decent. So much bias.
Depends on which one we're playing with that day. Roku for living room and den, Chromecast & FireStick get moved around. Roku is our main streaming device, though.
There are things that I guess I will never step into the 21st century. The notion that anyone would opt to watch a movie on their phone instead of a bigger display just seems ridiculous to me.
I understand scenarios like an unscheduled 2 hour layover in the Atlanta airport, but outside of something like that, no. (even during these times, I would opt to read and save the movie for a "real" watching experience)
My parents pay for Netflix and cable (WatchESPN), my girlfriend's parents pay for Amazon Prime. I paid $21 for a Chromecast, and control these services and my Plex Media Server from a Nexus 7. Living the dream.
PS3 for our main TV (Prime) and occasionally we use the Mac Mini attached to other TVs for streaming as well. Usually the Macs are just used for XBMC though.
Mostly we watch Netflix DVDs because of rural Internet speeds. Lately we've been watching some AbFab on the Roku through Amazon streaming (Gin and Tonic, Eddie!). Most nights, about ten minutes in, it re-buffers and switches to a lower-quality picture. Last season, I watched a lot of Giants baseball with the MLB app on the Apple TV (courtesy of some IP spoofing to get around archaic blackout rules). Occasionally I'll play a YouTube video on the iPad through the Apple TV.
No "Other" option?
PBS Kids on the Roku = Peace in the household.
@edh indeed. In. Deed.
roku and ipad

seems devices like amazon sticks, roku, and chrome cast were not even mentioned, therefor I can not answer

I use my laptop to watch them on my TV in my bedroom, or use the Xbox or my brother's Chromecast to watch them in the living room.
You left out the "other" option. I use a PC in this:
It sits under my TV looking awesome.
FireTV in my room and Roku in the living room. Hulu, Netflix, Prime, and I built a Plex server for local media.
@The_Baron I have much the same setup. I was baffled as to how to answer the survey, since none of the answers fit.
Let's see...
Smart TV, Roku, and Chromecast. I also use Plex and stream to the TV from my laptop for shows and movies I borrow from the internet.
I said on my TV though a game console, but that's not 100% correct. My game console is hooked to a computer monitor rather than a TV...
Other: Raspberry Pi + Kodi (XBMC)
On my tablet, usually. Then on my laptop. Then phone. Then desktop. 3DS. Android stick connected to my dumb TV. Smart alarm clock.
Apple TV to the big plasma
Other: OUYA running CM11 + KODI 14 helix <3
Chromecast in Bedroom, Living Room, and Basement. Used to have a Roku but the Chromecast was the better option for us.
Roku in the entertainment room, Chromecast in the bedroom, and occasionally I'll plug in my iPad for the couple of channels that aren't supported by the device in the room I'm in.
Amazon Fire TV with Kodi (XBMC)
Desktop.
Either on a tv via PC, monitor via pc, tv via chromecast, tablet, or phone.
On my TV through my desktop/laptop, because Netflix console (Wii U and Xbox 360) apps are complete garbage.

I use my old laptop plugged into the HDMI on the TV and with wireless mouse and keyboard let's me browse whatever I want from the comfort of my sofa.

Four Rokus here. Living room, office, bedroom and extra room.
TV antennae on roof and Roku in every room. We have three of them, owing to the glory days at Woot!
Just got my Amazon FireTV in last week so that's taken over for all streaming needs.
