Regarding Japanese words - I once read that native English speakers can sound closer to Japanese by emphasizing the last syllable. Therefore, awn-KYO

I think of the first syllable as more of an 'ahn' than an 'awn,' y'know, like the word 'on.' East coast vs. south?

awn-KEEoh With the empasis on the "kee" and a softer "oh" the "Y" is very subtle with this pronouciation.

Ohn kyo. Long O, last syllable kyo, like in Tokyo. No hard emphasis on either syllable, as is the custom in Japanese.
