@j37hr0@ParadisePete@rustyh3 I have two clips, I use them all the time. Even have some of the sd cards with the proprietary formatting that only work in the clip. (If anyone knows how to hack them I’d be most appreciative)
@j37hr0@ParadisePete@rustyh3 I loved my Sansa clips! Still have 2 that I use for walks. Now if you really want old school how about some Rio players. Those were great too
@beanonline@werehatrack Cotton, bamboo or nothing. I actually love my cotton/bamboo sheets. Very soft and cool.
Microfiber also slides around, I tried a duvet cover made of that crap and the comforter just kept falling off the bed.
@rileyper Microfiber is polyester with the fibers made so thin that you need pretty good magnification to see them individually. Not all microfiber is the same; some have excellent wicking capabilities, others don’t. But they all share the environmental issue that as the fibers break and release small segments in washing and wearing, those tiny segments of the fiber end up in everything, and if they are isolated from UV, they take a very long time to degrade - and can muck up things in the meantime. The exact amount of environmental threat they pose hasn’t been fully determined, but the fact that they pose one is already known.
Where from? At this price, could they be non-Asian? Nobody I found was admitting where these come from; if they were US-made, it would be Featured.
@rileyper@werehatrack there’s a reason synthetics are used by professional sports teams. They can wick away sweat and be much more comfortable than cotton. One of my favourite sheets is microfiber.
That said. There is good quality synthetics and bad quality synthetics. These are probably cheap synthetics which would be awful.
Synthetics are bad for the environment but not necessarily bad quality. (Although if sold here they probably are… )
@PooltoyWolf@alose I guess it was a hotel elf, not a house elf.
“Dobby is happy to be with his friend, Harry Potter.”
-“But, why is there a sock under the sheet?”
Dobby isn’t necessarily stripes. Dobby is the 3d texturing, in this case the stripes probably are the part raised but Dobby doesn’t mean striped. You can have Dobby with dots, or squares, or irk faces.
@mjc613 Excellent question. I checked a few different sites, but no thread count info. I wonder if microfiber sheets don’t “have” a thread count (I’m a guy, so don’t laugh if I sound like I’m out of my element here…lol) I took the plunge, nonetheless.
@Star2236
I’ve never seen one cited for microfiber. And this is yet another area where More != Better. Anything in the vicinity of 400 (for 100% cotton) is probably going to be decent. Beyond that, it gets questionable, and there are apparently a bunch of (mostly imported) cotton sheets claiming more threads per square inch than they really deliver.
@Chakolate But they have that authentic vintage New York feel. You know, what’s called “Ambience” and “Atmosphere” and “Retro chic” and “Quaint”. Oh, and “disgusting”. Mustn’t forget “disgusting”.
It’s been about a decade since I’ve had to stay in NYC proper - but the last time I did my $325/night room had a bare bulb in the ceiling and heat that was uncontrollable - with windows that would not keep themselves open.
I propped a window open with one of the drawers from the garbage dresser that was in room…
@Pufferfishy It’s been about just as long for me, but I spent a bunch less by spending a week at a hostel on Broadway.
Prison cell sized room with a bunk bed, a sink, and a pair of lockers - you could buy a lock at the all-night drug store halfway up the block. Bathroom down the hall.
Picked up a roommate at around 2:00 am - a young lady (I’m a guy, in my 50s at the time). I think she was from Europe, but she was gone by the time I got back from my morning shower.
It was an odd place to stay, but overall pleasant.
@TimW
Then there are the ones who reject cotton as being too hot and not breathable, demanding polyester. My reaction to that is “I guess you don’t know about the polyester from the '70s that was like wearing plastic wrap.” There are polyester fabrics that wick aggressively and breathe well, but those are not cheap.
Just received my sheets. Took 2 weeks. Is Meh always this slow with processing/shipping orders? Not very happy with the quality; certainly not worth any more than the $25 price tag. 100% polyester, which I don’t believe was disclosed in the ad. Just wondering what everyone else thinks if they purchased these.
If you look at the specs section near the time of this forum page, you’ll see that it shows the material as being 100% microfiber, and that the estimated delivery range is/was Thursday, Apr 7 - Monday, Apr 11.
@FreePasta My bad…I didn’t know that microfiber=polyester (I’m just a dumb bachelor, after all). Somehow missed the delivery range, too
Still wondering what everyone else thinks of the sheets, if they purchased them…

@mcemanuel I Slit the Sheet, the Sheet I Slit, and on the Slitted Sheet I Sit
@mcemanuel We have all been there. LMAFO
Give me cotton sheets or give me… I dunno a Sansa clip or something.
@highonpez No wireless. Less space than a nomad. Lame.
@j37hr0 I’m shocked that at least one other person knows this reference. I think wouldn’t be completely surprised if meh sold iPods tomorrow.
@highonpez What about an iMetal Headphone!
@j37hr0 @ParadisePete …Please… Many of us have fond memories of Sansa. A few of us still use them.
@j37hr0 @ParadisePete @rustyh3 I have two clips, I use them all the time. Even have some of the sd cards with the proprietary formatting that only work in the clip. (If anyone knows how to hack them I’d be most appreciative)
@highonpez I bought so many Sansa Fuze’s.
@highonpez I still have this https://www.ebay.com/itm/154432717859
@j37hr0 @ParadisePete @rustyh3 I loved my Sansa clips! Still have 2 that I use for walks. Now if you really want old school how about some Rio players. Those were great too
@ParadisePete I miss my Zune, Woot refurb 30 GB.
“Microfiber. Why did it have to be microfiber?”
“Synthetics. Very sweaty. You go first.”
@werehatrack …yup you got that right! Cotton or nothing…
@beanonline @werehatrack Cotton, bamboo or nothing. I actually love my cotton/bamboo sheets. Very soft and cool.
Microfiber also slides around, I tried a duvet cover made of that crap and the comforter just kept falling off the bed.
The best sheets are the ones you dont think about while you sleep!
First… what is 100% Microfiber? (looked it up, it’s plastic)
Second… Country of origin?
@rileyper Microfiber is polyester with the fibers made so thin that you need pretty good magnification to see them individually. Not all microfiber is the same; some have excellent wicking capabilities, others don’t. @rileyper @werehatrack So, is this where the micro plastic particles found in human blood are coming from?
@rileyper @werehatrack there’s a reason synthetics are used by professional sports teams.
(Although if sold here they probably are… )
@rileyper @tweezak
There are many potential candidate sources; this is but one of them. The modern human environment is full of plastics that shed particles.
Yawn.
What does an elf have to do with sheets?
@alose An elf has to make the master’s bed with them, never the elf’s own, no, Dobby sleeps in a corner.
@alose @werehatrack Nobody puts Dobby in a corner.
Anyone make a house elf joke yet?
@PooltoyWolf Yep.
@PooltoyWolf @alose I guess it was a hotel elf, not a house elf.
“Dobby is happy to be with his friend, Harry Potter.”
-“But, why is there a sock under the sheet?”
@alose @phendrick There we go!
I don’t want sheets from a New York hotel. No telling who’s been on them. My skin is itching just thinking about them.
@hchavers ^^^ Best response so far IMO ^^^
Holy sheet! They have twin size.
Max meh!
Just once, Meh, could we have a 100% cotton offering? Willing to pay more…
@haydesigner How much did you pay for microfiber?
@haydesigner @stinks $0, ergo he is still willing to pay more for the cotton.
@haydesigner @Medscript I don’t see much of a business at that price. But then I’m no knapstar.
/image change bank snl
When will you offer rubber sheets?
Asking for a friend.
Will these stain with body fluids or will they clean up nicely… ALSO… can I bleach the crap out of these. Asking for my grandmother.
When are you going to get it in your head most of us don’t want sheets made of petroleum ??? Microfiber is so 2004 …
“NO MORE PLASTIC SHEETS!, Christina!!!”
Dobby isn’t necessarily stripes. Dobby is the 3d texturing, in this case the stripes probably are the part raised but Dobby doesn’t mean striped. You can have Dobby with dots, or squares, or irk faces.
@OnionSoup And these stripes are kinda not raised. Huh. I wonder if not being actually Dobby is some part of why they ended up with Meh…
That, and who thought it was a good idea to brand them “New York Hotel” given the aromas surrounding some of those high-profile facilities of late?
@OnionSoup I would almost consider a Dobby irk face sheet set even if it was microfiber.
What is the thread count on these sheets?
@mjc613 Excellent question. I checked a few different sites, but no thread count info. I wonder if microfiber sheets don’t “have” a thread count (I’m a guy, so don’t laugh if I sound like I’m out of my element here…lol) I took the plunge, nonetheless.
@Berndude @mjc613
I don’t think they use thread count
@Star2236

https://www.goodhousekeeping.com/home-products/a27494227/best-thread-counts-for-sheets/
That was actually a very Lovecraftian write-up, there. Nicely done.
@werehatrack
I loved the write up too, made me laugh.
Dobby is meh-speak for “these are EXTRA sweaty”
Will Meh ever sell a sheet set that’s cotton (and not 150 thread count) again???
@Pufferfishy
/8ball Well? The fishy want to know…
Outlook not so good
I’ll wait for the upstate New York (Ossining) Dobby prison stripe.Hope they come in latex.
save your money and get big roll of saran wrap instead… same thing
Why is it considered a selling point to call them ‘New York Hotel’? New York is chock-full of really, really crappy hotels.
@Chakolate But they have that authentic vintage New York feel. You know, what’s called “Ambience” and “Atmosphere” and “Retro chic” and “Quaint”. Oh, and “disgusting”. Mustn’t forget “disgusting”.

@Chakolate yeah these belong in a crappy NY hotel, IMO. Regretful purchase
I need some new sheets but who wants microfiber outside of a dorm room. I would love to see some deals on natural fiber sheets. Cotton is king.
Yay, more petroleum-based bedclothes to snuggle up with. Mmmm, motor oil…
@MrNews At least they don’t shrink like the “viscose made from bamboo” ones, which are just as sweaty in my experience.
A recent study detected microplastics in blood samples from 87% of human test subjects.
Couldn’t you at least, very occasionally, offer cotton sheets, even if the discount was rather slender?
(And no, we do not want “viscose made from bamboo”).
PS: Why are twin sets the same price as king sets? Makes absolutely no sense.
Woo Hoo!
Here come the boxes of clothes!
Everyone ready for April 1?
Stop selling plastic sheets; I don’t want them.
Funny How no one wants “plastic” sheets…yet they type this while wearing Under Armor, Reebok, Nike, Champion, etc. “plastic” clothes.
@TimW

@Berndude
Are they? I don’t also don’t know. I was just repeating what the listing said.
@FreePasta Yes, the tags say “100% polyester”.
got these at the request of my mother. They can’t stand 'em and the elastic on the contour sheet is apparently shit.
