Yeah…every few months the realization that I’ve been paying hits me. For some reason I like giving a Meh my hard earned money…One day I’ll stop…but not today…not today…
Back in the good old days, I’d turn VMP on and off as needed. There were long stretches where that meant I had VMP most of the year - due to the consistent stream of deals.
So, as those 1st and 2nd year Meh launch deals dried up, please explain to me why I bothered to turn VMP on and leave it on when VMP was turned into a grandfathered thing?
And now that “Membership” offers 99% of what VMP is, please explain why I don’t dump VMP for “Membership”?
Like the original poster I’ve been here since the kickstarter and VMP since then. It’s odd to be loyal to a merchant. I should have that checked by my doctor.

I finally joined in Dec 2016. I don’t buy much but I love the write ups. I think of my VMP as like a Twitch subscription, and if it can help to keep this magical little place on the internet that I enjoy so much going then yay!
If it’s any consolation, you’re paying less for VMP now than you were 6 years ago… If Meh adjusted for inflation it would cost $5.50 a month compared to 2014.
I’m only coming up on 4 years, though I turned it off and on a few times before that. It’s an entertainment cost for me at this point, like my too many streaming subscriptions. I’m not saying that Mediocre should use the funds to start a movie studio, but I’m not not saying that.
My wife, for the first time since I joined the VMP program, asked me, “What’s this $5 charge from?” I honestly wasn’t sure at first… The whole family knew I get free shipping from Meh, but had completely forgot we pay for that free shipping.
@Tin_Foil My wife and I were just going over our budget and had the same conversation. We were like “there’s a random $5 a month… where does that go?” Then I remembered Meh! haha
I am pretty sure I’ve been a VMP since the KS, or whenever it started, but a CC glitch had me not a VMP for a day or two while the meh-folk sorted things out.
meh.
The math of a VMP membership is far more complex than one might think at first blush. Yes, the easy part is $5/month X # of months = $ Your VMP Technical Cost.
But…
How much shipping did you save over those years on stuff you legitimately wanted? See, you can subtract this number from your VMP Technical Cost.
How much crap did you buy just because you had ‘free shipping’?
How many times did you buy something once per month just to break even on the membership fees?
How much of the $5/month counts towards your ‘entertainment’ factor?
Hey, it’s an hour earlier than Woot.com! That counts for something!
Anyone try justifying this as a ‘cheap $5/month hobby’?
How about comparing and then dismissing the cost versus a legitimate vice like smoking or drinking?
Oh, yeah, and that MorningSave discount HAS to be good for something, right? RIGHT??
This used to be a cheap electronics ‘hobby’ buying site, but then they started with the snack products like coffee, Jelly Bellies, jerky, Stroopwafels, etc… OK, maybe I’ll stick around another month or two. Definitely through Christmas for some stocking stuffers…
Face it fellow VMPers, we have a problem. And meh.com couldn’t be happier about it.
VMPer for life! But I’ll probably cancel next month if I don’t see anything I like.
We are V.M.P.s so pity us.
The sales and merch are so hideous!
We’re gonna smoke and drink and fool around.
We’re IRK’s loyal V.M.P.s!
Upper Right > Account > Your Profile - it then states how many purchases you’ve had:
froppy has been known to indulge in the meh lifestyle having placed 99
orders
By my math, 99 orders x $5 shipping = $495 in shipping. I too have had it since 2014 (July), which equates to ~76 months, which is $380. So, I’ve ‘netted’ $115 discount by being a VMP.
Yes, I had to explain all of this to my wife and demonstrate how I’ve gotten a “deal” by using Meh for 6 years…
Also, don’t point out how much time and money I’ve wasted, that’s not the point… hah!
Yeah…every few months the realization that I’ve been paying hits me. For some reason I like giving a Meh my hard earned money…One day I’ll stop…but not today…not today…
I know what your saying, I feel if I stop my VMP (4 years as of Oct) they might start selling stuff I’m interested in, and would have to pay shipping.
“You’ve been a VMP member since July 2014”
@airmo yay supremely mediocre together since july 2014
@airmo Me too… July 2014!
@airmo me too
“You’ve been a VMP member since February 2015” Oh well, I thought I was special…
October 2014 here. Cheers folks!

@RedOak You want the V instead of the heart. It’s science.
@robm yah, “science” as in “addiction”.
@RedOak I agree. If it’s going to just start being all members there’s no point in keeping VMP. Just just turn your membership on or off as seen fit
@RedOak We’re gullible^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^Heasily amused?
Tomorrow makes six years fir me
Never even got a pair of free socks…
My 6th anniversary is December 25th. I’m not going to add up all the VMP money I’ve paid. DON’T MAKE ME DO IT!
@sammydog01 I’d be happy to help out…
Siri tells me as of today, that’s 71 months. Or I guess I could have subtracted one month from 6 years of months.
71 x $5 = $355.

Jan. 2015, beginning to wonder about this.
I wonder when I will give in, stop paying, and stop clicking that stupid button.
December 2015 here… although, it shows 2017 due to card issuer changing card number on me. Meh.
@PHRoG, how do you know it’s Dec '15 then?
@haydesigner My order history. I joined VMP when I placed my first order after I discovered the site.
Joined Aug.2014 but didn’t lock in VMP until June 2016. Back when you could turn it on and off at will.
Joined VMP Nov 2015, Quip and Socks, Great memories !!
Congrats!
Fortunately in moving out of the country. Maybe I should sell my vmp!
@neveraging Meh, it’s only $60/year and you might come back!
I’m just one of many EX-es of meh.
@MrMark Something, something ex-es in Texas…

Hello fellow VMPers!
My year six is just around the corner.
“You’ve been a VMP member since December 2014.”
Congrats
Only 4 years for me. “You’ve been a VMP member since July 2016.”
October made 5 years for My Dusty VMP ass. Not sure whyI still am seeing as I have 44 Bluetooth speakers and 72 power banks.
I am pretty sure I’ve been a VMP since the KS, or whenever it started, but a CC glitch had me not a VMP for a day or two while the meh-folk sorted things out.
meh.
I’ve also been VMP since November 2014. I’m not sure if that’s good or bad.
“ You’ve been a VMP member since December 2015.” Good times…
