Going with my in-laws to the restaurant at the Holiday Inn for the special Thanksgiving dinner. :::rolling eyes::: Wheee!!! I've got 12 hours to come down with some sort of illness, migraine, violent PMS cramps, something, anything, so I can get out of going.
We were going to go to my parents house for lunch where my older brother is in town to visit with his three kids.
That WAS the plan. However, today my 5 year old daughter came down with a stomach bug and began vomiting. We will be staying home tomorrow.
The sucky part is we didn't buy a turkey or fixings because we weren't cooking this year. Hopefully my family will drop some of their feast off for us.
Working. As an EMT, I can't really ask the general public to not get sick or hurt for one day. That would be pretty sweet though.
PSA: If you are deep frying your turkey, make sure that the turkey is fully thawed first and be careful putting the turkey in the fryer. Like sticking your hand in a stuck snowblower, these are the inevitable calls that happen EVERY YEAR.
Well, we had planned on a movie, but due to some family drama, it will not be a pleasant, relaxing day. DH's SIL has some mental issues and it's possible all the trouble she's started in the past twenty years may be coming to a head. Not looking forward to it at all.
@Mofongo Why do you need to leave your turkey in the freezer if you need a snowblower? And didn't the EMT on here say don't throw a frozen turkey in boiling oil based on the runs he/she has made when people do this?
My sympathies to those who are dealing with drama this holiday. The occasion leaves a bad taste in my mouth (pun not intended) due to family drama on an annual basis when I was a kid. Nothing wrong with preparing a bird and watching football, though. I hope to have a meh Thanksgiving, and wish you all the same. :-)
Uncoordinated neighborhood potluck. Three very different turkeys, a couple dozen sides, about fifteen pies. Served buffet style in someone's garage, because thirty people just don't fit inside. Y'all come!
@OldCatLady Come where? Clearly somewhere where it is not currently snowing… And can I bring my trailer (it is 16' so about as long as a mini van) to stay for a while? This house is too full of kids (7) plus 5 more chinese kids that don't live here and I am tired of bickering in Chinese and English. I told several they needed to take it outside because then we wouldn't need to clean up the blood. PS none of these are my kids. I just had one of them in foster care before this family adopted her (she is responsible for the chinese gaggle)
@OldCatLady Oh I don't plan to bring any kids - running away from home. You leave kids behind then - right? I mean if I am running away from home you don't bring home with you… at least my understanding is that is how it is supposed to work..(besides none of those are mine - mine is elsewhere at the moment).
@Kidsandliz Sounds like a good plan. If it gets too hectic, we can go sit on my patio and watch the geese on the pond, and pick the Satsuma oranges. My neighbor has grapefruit; we usually trade some.
@OldCatLady I see by your name here you like cats. I will bring my cats. You want more? I have taken in the ones my neighbor abandoned when they moved - lovely little babies (all 1-3 years old) but I already had 3 and can't afford any more. You want some? I think though that I will miss dinner as I am in MS and it is a bit of a hike to FL - especially if you are in, say, the Keys. Will you save me leftovers?
Either driving 10 hrs to go out of state and back in the same day or staying in and getting some things done on my one day off. I guess I'll decide when the alarm goes off in a few hours...
Hubby is working tonight because prisons have to be staffed. We're staying home tomorrow and I'm cooking a small meal for the four of us after he naps. We'll be making a day trip to celebrate with my family on Saturday. I'd rather stay home, but my mama is a good one and I'll feel guilty if we don't go.
I am an EMT, I will be sitting in my ambulance all day tomorrow waiting for one of you Amehricans to drink to much and do something stupid nessecitating a visit from me.
On Thursday we're going to a massive feast with friends. Friday we drive up to Ashland to stay with my birth-mother, sister, BIL, niece, and nephew. We are bringing a leg of lamb and will prepare a feast on Saturday. Sunday we'll drive home in a storm. Hopefully we'll make it over the pass before too much snow falls.
I have the place to myself for a few days. So far it's been Meh videos turned up real loud, and Three Stooges on tv. Mehybe football later. Go SpacePilgrims! Nyuk!
Packing up and driving today. I'm expected to attend The Game on Saturday. :-| I'm not as into football as I used to be. My family, however, is still nuts over it.
Chilling at home with the husband and kids. Most of us remain in our PJ's, and I cook massive amounts of food. It's fairly peaceful, and far less bickering then when it was an inlaw involved thing. Holidays should be happy, not drinking heavily just to tolerate people you can't stand to be around.
Great traditional home cooked Thanksgiving dinner, just a few of us.
While its cooking: spend some time sending "you suck" tweets to retail store companies who steal Thanksgiving from their employees, roll eyes at their boilerplate responses, and send "You are awesome!" tweets to those who close for the day. Stay up late with family and dogs, snacking and drinking, sleep late Friday and don't buy a damn thing from the sucky companies. Pure win. #SaveThanksgiving
eating large amounts of food. what else would i be doing?
I flew to N.Y.last night and am spending the holiday with family. And loads of food. Mmmmmmmmm

@bluedog I tried the "violent PMS cramps," but it never seems to work. They always say something about men not having PMS.

Using the sawzall to carve dry rotted trim off the house.
@Headly Be safe, so @Mac454 doesn't have to come to your rescue.
Attending two massive feasts!

@Mac454 Thank you for your service! If it weren't for unbelievable stupidity, you wouldn't have a job.
I'll be going hunting with my family, enjoying a meal with them then watching football. I am truly blessed.

I hope everyone here has a great day!
I'll be deep frying my turkey, which is currently remaining nice and fresh in the freezer. Oh and my family is bringing their snowblower.
Let me guess, you carve the turkey with an electric knife while blindfolded?
@Mofongo You just made me spit all over my monitor. Seriously.
@Mofongo Why do you need to leave your turkey in the freezer if you need a snowblower? And didn't the EMT on here say don't throw a frozen turkey in boiling oil based on the runs he/she has made when people do this?
@Kidsandliz I do believe the joke went over your head this time. Also, snow can be on the ground in temps above freezing.
@bluedog Now that was funny.

@Kidsandliz Florida, where it's going to be 64 and sunny. Sure, lots of room here, and there will be ten kids already; what's a few more?

Driving to the city (SF), to squat & gobble w/ good friends & semi-relatives
Either driving 10 hrs to go out of state and back in the same day or staying in and getting some things done on my one day off. I guess I'll decide when the alarm goes off in a few hours...
We're eating babies. Would you expect anything else?
Maybe a movie. Hey, does anyone recommend Interstellar?
@KDemo A friend really liked it.
@SSteve - Thanks. It's probably that or The Theory of Everything.
@KDemo it's very moving

Vegan feast
Delicious dinner at my mother's followed by watching my Eagles hopefully kick some meh local Cowboys asses.

P.S. Have an extra piece of turkey for me.
@Saffer49 Hey where do you live? Maybe someone from there can put in a call, you get to their house and the emergency is that you need to eat turkey.
Dinner with family followed by watching hockey & football.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Right now? I'm procrastinating on the internet!
Meeting in-laws at a restaurant in Fort Worth. Everyone else has to work.
