Problem: my clothes are often furry
Problem: I can’t use the shelve space above my head.
Problem: cats litter box is in there.
Problem: cat takes down hanging clothes.
Problem: cat may piss on said clothes.
@Kyeh@mycya4me@shahnm the cats have been evicted from the closet. It’s a walk-in off the main bedroom, not just a door leaning against a wall.
That door is covering the entrance/will be on a barn door track. What’s in the box at the bottom. No more cats ruining stuff/less fur in clothes. Other things they screw with.
Get that done, can clear the laundry room of clothes shut in there so they cant mess with them.
Clear the laundry room get the shelves up in there.
Get the shelves up in there other stuff gets moved in there. Which clears other hurdles. Etc etc
Ends with no stuff out for cats to mess with. Several other positives
I have planned that solution for a while. I just got annoyed enough to go get the parts this weekend.
Then…
“Well. I need to put the door somewhere. I can just block them out of the closet with it now… Deal with the install/rest of this later”
I tend to start somewhere then make a list of the most efficient/cost effective way to deal with house issues… Then it gets overwhelming
Will it be a solution? To some things.
That days Goal? Cats not in closet.
@Kyeh@shahnm@unksol so where are the toys for the Cat… it can be as simple as a core of the toilet paper roll, I am going to take one & put a few small rock in it, then tape the end shut.
@chienfou@Kyeh@mycya4me@shahnm the litter boxi were relocated to the unfinished master bath were several others already. Only a few feet away. They don’t get to pee on clothes or shoes or storage boxes anymore so. Can’t get worse?
@unksol
BTW not sure what you are using but my cats were pretty fond of the pine pellets as cat litter. Haven’t had to change/add or scoop the box for several months since we put in the chipped cat door. They much prefer to use the great outdoors as their litter box. The litter box only got used recently for a couple of days while we were out of the country in Aug when the batteries died… meant to change them before we left but… ooops!
@chienfou anyway if you have convinced them to go to pine it’s absolutely worth it and several of the cats did. There are articles on moving larger groups to them. But I’m my case 100% 100% of the time I didn’t get there.
I think with less totally doable. And cat urine is sterile so just dump outside
@unksol
That’s exactly why I went to the pine. Once the pellets get wet they turn to fluff and it’s easy to filter out the pieces that are still usable and dump the rest. I actually have a two-part litter box that has a screen in the bottom to make that easier. I just dump it out in the grass and it breaks down beautifully. Of course since they’re not using it I haven’t had to do that in months!
@chienfou it expands to saw dust and you have to scoop the shit but you can rake it through then chuck the dust. But there’s limited use. If we could go 100% id be nice.
You can google people moving to pine pellets. Some are 100%
Sawdust just dump in the yard vs hauling 40lbs of litter. I wish I could convince them all for a lot of reasons
@kittykat9180@xobzoo thought about this last night. Little girl cat was “runt” of the litter and always small. But healthy and had a good long life. Short-hair Siamese. She would crawl into bed and if you were in bed would ask you to open covers to make a space. But if you’re not there would dig in and make a spot anyway. Sometimes the “where is the cat?” answer was tucked-in to bed.
Later guy a bigger part-Siamese medium hair didn’t like covers usually. Fine with snuggling in bed and happy to sleep on top of soft warm furry stuff. Warmer and softer the better.
Miss them both. But, life. Their cat lives were good. Now ‘cause, life, can’t get cats just yet, but, soon.
Just retired less than 2 months ago… so I don’t have to pretend!
Since our return after a month abroad I have:
Painted the trim on the poolhouse and done some minor maintenance before renting it to an out of town PA student doing a stint with a local DR.
Got the lawn back in shape after 30 days of neglect during the above mentioned vacay.
Made several batches of sourdough bread
Cooked a bunch of meals including fresh baked pizza in our new pizza oven gizmo that goes in the gas grill.
Celebrated our 47th anniversary
Covered another lesson in our Great Courses wine tasting course with another couple.
Cleared out several broken limbs from storm while we were gone
Trimmed the hedges in front of Mom’s old house to make it easier to get in and out of her driveway.
Cleaned out several trashcan loads of stuff from the barn/shop.
Cleared out the (minimal) veggie garden I planted this year, harvested tomatoes and peppers and made a batch of pepper jelly.
Smoked a couple of meals (lamb and ribs, with some olive oil getting smoke for gifts for later.
Made basil vinegar.
Been out with friends for dinner and live music a few times
Had folks over to the pool a few times.
and a bunch of stuff that doesn’t immediately come to mind I am sure!
Next week going to FL for the weekend then up to a local state park for a couple of days with friends to hang out and play at the lake.
Oh… and I did manage to squeeze in a couple of PRN work days in the ER this week…
@chienfou
Spent today cleaning out half the shed and cleaning up sawdust and stray pieces of wood, scraps around the table saw and planer etc. Also FINALLY ran the wiring for a switched outlet for my compressor so I don’t have to venture into the back corner of the shop. Plugged it in, turned it on and now it will turn on/off when I flip the switch. Tomorrow I’ll tackle the other half which has all the tools in it. It’ll be nice to have my shop organized again for a change (when I was working I tended to work to the last moment then stuff shit into the shop and leave).
Stay up late, have midnight snacks modeled on my Dad’s midnight cheeseburgers, get up late, and finally get to work on my project car except for the 5 months a year that the plants that can’t survive winter consume all the free space in the garage. Then maybe learn Python on a Raspberry Pi (5?), get the VMS workstations up and operating again so I remember how to do stuff I no longer need to do for work, and/or play video games.
At appropriate times do garden (planter right now, real in ground when we retire and move) setups and maintenance, and eventual harvesting of what the squirrels don’t destroy.
I only consider it free time if there isn’t something else that desperately needs to be done and has been delayed by my combination of ADHD and procrastination. In real world terms, this means that I have no concept of what real free time is. I wouldn’t recognize it, and I wouldn’t know what to do with it.
Go bicycle riding.
@yakkoTDI great answer.
Fully structure it, for maximal productivity, plan to do 100 things so I get 10 done, but then chill out and relax instead…
@shahnm yea!! I LOVE that Answer. I think I will try it!
@mycya4me @shahnm you forgot the last step.
Stress about the things you still didn’t do
@mycya4me @shahnm
I can provide an example. In my closet…
Problem: my clothes are often furry
Problem: I can’t use the shelve space above my head.
Problem: cats litter box is in there.
Problem: cat takes down hanging clothes.
Problem: cat may piss on said clothes.
Solution:
That’s. That’s how you install a barn door right?
@mycya4me @shahnm @unksol I don’t get it, though. How is it a solution?
@Kyeh @mycya4me @shahnm the cats have been evicted from the closet. It’s a walk-in off the main bedroom, not just a door leaning against a wall.

Accomplished.
@Kyeh @shahnm @unksol so where are the toys for the Cat… it can be as simple as a core of the toilet paper roll, I am going to take one & put a few small rock in it, then tape the end shut.
@Kyeh @mycya4me @shahnm oh they have mice. Blocked the couch bottoms so they can’t loose them.
5 cat trees. This i want another of because it’s ceiling braced but I think armacat stopped making those. I need to pull it down and refurbish
Three very nice scratching posts. Automated laser pointer. Idk where all the balls went.
And 19 of their best friends/enemies.
They have stuff to do.
Me leaving my stuff to do out in the open is… Eh. If anything I’m walling my stuff In.
You normal people might call it being tidy/putting things away
@Kyeh @mycya4me @shahnm and don’t get me started with the things they just take. They have plenty to get into in the basement.
@Kyeh @mycya4me @shahnm @unksol
hope you solved that issue BEFORE you locked them out of the closet!
@chienfou @Kyeh @mycya4me @shahnm the litter boxi were relocated to the unfinished master bath were several others already. Only a few feet away. They don’t get to pee on clothes or shoes or storage boxes anymore so. Can’t get worse?

@chienfou oh I lost the battel. They have…ok. let’s count.
4 litter boxes in the basement. A 5th with pine. Another just a box.
3 with clay litter and 2x2 on wood ships and bare boxes. So it just doesn’t alwqys work. .
We are at 13ish
Now the upstairs boxes are aittle more of an issue but I want to be clear that pine can work
You can get it at tractor supply for very cheap.
My particular situation is unique. Also if you have this many cats get help
@chienfou also obviously if you let them outside.
Very different games. Wouldn’t you have to hit them with a total kill?
Not that I don’t like the idea of far. Cats/dogs. Especially dogs. But yeah no farm cats here
@chienfou this stuff. Is the exact same they sell as expensive litter.

That and nap and/or go shopping.
@heartny Oops, should be take a nap not that and nap. Must remember to proofread.
Waste time at a Mehrathon
Plan a few things, do a few things spontaneously, and nap (which is a little of both).
Depends — do I also have a bunch of free money?
@xobzoo that looks like fun to me

Bing watch a bunch of tv and relax in my pjs.
Whatever I feel like at that moment. Sounds amazing.

TL:DR Nothing much

@werehatrack Well, I don’t know you well enough to properly answer for you, but my guess is either sit in bed (like the cat I posted above) or this:
And since those aren’t mutually exclusive, it’s “guilt from trying to relax.”
As always, YMMV.
