They hang out in parks with pools in New Orleans. I didn’t expect to see one that far north, so it took me a while to realize that’s what they were. At first I thought “That’s a really, really big muskrat”
@thismyusername@kaighintze LOL. Yeah, if you are seeing them in New Orleans, I am pretty sure those are copyu and not capybara.
They were causing such a huge amount of wetland damage in the area, at one point there was a $5 bounty on them. The state also tried marketing them as a food source, but people rejected the idea of eating an over-grown river-rat.
@DrWorm And just what the fuck do you think was in all them tasty “meatloaf” MREs after Katrina? Luvs me some nutria, or, as tru dat yats call em, “swamp chickens”.
You know it’s time for bed when your mind sees “Have you ever blended the mighty capybara?” while scrolling through the forum titles. So on that tangent, will it blend? Yes, definitely. Does it taste like a bacon milkshake? You’ll have to ask DRBLAW.
@huja I held a tiger cub, it fell asleep and the owner told me to keep holding it while little kids petted it. Was holding it for about 45 minutes. It was the size of a cat except its head was a lot bigger. I then went home and my cats went nuts. I finally had to change clothes. They spent 3 hours messing with my baby tiger scented clothing…
I have beheld. My father tried to convince us that it was why we could not buy guinea pigs, as they would grow up that size, too big for our tiny home.
I promised I would take it on walks.

Is it considered “in the wild” if they were wandering freely in a park (in Brazil)?
@christinerenee That’s wilder than an average zoo. I’ll go with “yes.”
I wonder if they would make good bacon.
@DRBLAW I doubt they’re tall enough to use the stove, but maybe with a stool.
Yea I live with one
@Candiedisilvio1 In your house?
@miraclewhispers yea it’s my husband. The biggest rodent I know
@pitamuffin it’s kinda cute!
@Lazarpandar
The capybara is on the right. /s

@kaighintze I think those are Coypu, or as they call them in nawlins “nutria”.

@thismyusername fun fact about nutria, they were originally introduced to N. America to be “ranched” for their fur.

KuoH
@kuoh I suspect they taste like a muskier version of your standard guinea pig milkshake.
.
… what?
Where’s the option for “I look at pictures of capybara online whenever I’m stressed and need to relax”?
We have had their cousins, the cavy, as pets And there’s a lady up the way who has a capybara as a pet.
Guinea pig on steroids?
No, but my wife held a panda cub once.

I always think they look like animatronics. Also, I want to read Wump World now.
/giphy I like turtles
Yes, on the barbie!
looks like a muskrat
@cranky1950 With what does the Muskrat guard his musk?
@PocketBrain As long as it’s not AXE I don’t care.
I dunno? what?
/giphy capybara sits in the old gum tree
@Einherjar13 …spanking all the spidey butts he can see.
I’ve previously only seen them in the logo of Capybara Games.
/image capy games
No, but I have seen Japanese pop-punk band Shonen Knife perform a song about Capybaras!
@sanspoint Well, you can’t unhear that.
@sanspoint hooraaay another ear worm!
@PocketBrain The studio version is better, I think:
If you’re a fan of Bob’s Burgers, you probably have seen a capybara before.

This is an important web site.
We saw them in Mexico. We didn’t know this creature. We called it a kitty-squirrel. But now I think they are more like big friendly rats.
I’m one of those weirdos that sees faces in the fronts of cars, I always saw a Capybara, when i looked at the Pontiac Aztek.
@earlyre Kind of looks like it from the rear too.
I got a little plastic one in a bag of crap once. True story.
