Have a question about a supposedly Korean product
1Hi, for some time now I've had a box of Lotte Pepero, which is described as "White cookie- harmony of crunchy cookies and white chocolate".
That's all fine, but the box also proudly proclaims "Korea No. 1 Brand". Is this merely a marketing gimmick, or is the product actually a top-rated/selling product?
For all the non-Korean Meh folk: what #1 products have you had that aren't from your native country?

Fosters. It is allegedly Australian for "Beer."
@Moose Fosters. Australian for Budweiser.
Lotte is a major department store chain in Korea. I suspect the "No. 1" claim was for Lotte, not Pepero.
@SIMBM Lotte is also one of Korea's biggest food companies, construction companies, and hotel chains, among other things.
@SIMBM But I think it's mostly that if you hold a Pepero straight up, it looks like a number 1. There you go.
@SIMBM and there is a Lotte about 2 hours from me Happy Squee. Love the place
@ardgedee Bigger than Shilla/Everland/Samsung Heavy Industries?
Pepero is definitely very popular in Korea. Americans think of it as sort of a rival to the Japanese Pocky, which it is, but there's a sort of unofficial Pepero holiday (Pepero Day). Culturally important AND delicious, who could ask for more?
More about Pepero Day and LOTS of cute pics (aww!): http://cuteinkorea.com/pepero-day/
@Starblind Thank you! Interested in seeing how it tastes finally- have it packed for vacation.
@Starblind Wow love the blog about Pepero cookies, thanks for the link. Those Hello KItty Pepero cookies would be a big hit here in the US. Meh should import some from Korea as a Deal of the day for us.
White cookie version is one of the variations. Simple chocolate covered stick is original. I think pretty much same as "pocky"
I don't know if one could say it is number one in Korea, however, it is pretty famous. I myself have only seen people eating Pepero on Pepero Day.
it tastes good, though... "the best"?? nah. i love it, i wanna have it more often if it's more affordable but i do not agree with thah word. i'd say try some other Korean snacks if you can.
I don't know if any of them are #1 products, but I used to hit up a Japanese marketplace called Mitsuwa in SoCal and get tasty snacks.
They had tons of delicious stuff:
There's so many! I'll admit that I'm a sucker for candy. My Kiwi family spoils me with Milk Bottles and Pineapple Lumps.
