Hater's Gonna Hate
4Lots of people like to hate on my New England Patriots, and I've often struggled to understand why. Luckily, last week I came upon an infographic that cleared it all up for me. I don't want to insert it as an image as it's rather large, so here's a link to it for your viewing pleasure: http://goo.gl/Z5YYhG
Looking at these stats, while nothing I was not already aware of, presented boldly and concisely in one place it suddenly dawned on me. They hate us cause they ain't us. I mean really, who could blame the Bills fans for hating us? As of last night, they've got a 0.125 win-loss ratio against us across 32 games, that has to hurt. The Jets and Dolphins fans are doing comparatively well really, with .30 and .32 respectively, but even then they've won less than one third of their games against us. And forget Falcons, Cowboys, Jaguars, and Eagles fans, nobody likes to get curb stomped so I can empathize, really I can -- especially for those teams who only play us every four years, I can't imagine what that's like, losing to the same team for over a decade.
What really saddens me the most is how people can let their distress at their team's inability to measure up warp and twist them into believing anything they hear that might explain and make up for their team's poor performance. The latest bandwagon of note is, naturally, this whole Deflategate nonsense. People are so desperate to find some reason to justify their hatred that they're willing to blindly accept nonsense uncorroborated by facts from biased sources. So many people just blithely jump on the 'Patriots Cheated' bandwagon without asking themselves what actual evidence there is. It's really too bad when people are so blinded by hatred that they'll take the word and judgement of a man who lets rapists and wife beaters off the hook.
Fear not, my friends, Patriots Nation will not hold these transgressions against you. We know your struggle, we understand your pain, we were once in your shoes. Fear not that you will be hated for your transgressions against our team, we know that you were blind to your actions, manipulated by a system not of your choosing. The Church of Foxborough is open to all who open their hearts to the one true team. Our benevolent leader Pope Belichick and Brother Brady will welcome you with open arms and embrace you warmly. Hark! Take care avoid the temptations offered to you by fallen ones like Robert Goodell and Ted Wells, they want only your money and will take your soul to get it.
This thread is dedicated to @mfladd who has spread the good news here before my arrival, I won't let you down buddy, they'll convert eventually! It's also dedicated to all the unenlightened like @ceagee and @pepsiwine who know not what they do. I love you all despite your blind hatred.

No, most of us hate them because they're a bunch of cheating pieces of shit.
Seriously? What pieces of evidence? You know, little things like - Belicheat admitting he had been taping people since becoming head coach. Like Tom Brady suddenly destroying his cell phone for no apparent reason.
Please... no one gave a crap about the Patriots until they started winning.
@cinoclav the Patriots were far from alone in taping other teams, but that's also ancient history at this point.
As far as the cell phone thing goes, you are buying into the hype narrative driven by the league's attempts to save face after their disciplinary debacles in the past. They know the Pats are big news, and that the predisposition to believe they cheat exists, and hoped if they came down hard on them they could change the narrative of the NFL being soft on punishments.
Brady was under no legal obligation to disclose his private conversations to the NFL, and despite that fact he did so when it became a big issue. The destruction of his phone was the result of his having gotten a replacement, after he had been told he didn't need to present it, and is consistent with his prior practices when getting new phones. Celebrities are not just normal people, they have to be proactive to preserve their privacy, a discarded cell phone would be a tabloid gold mine.
Have no fear, my friend, when you come to the light we will welcome you into the fold with open arms.
I always wonder what happened in a Patriot fan's life that makes them all so insecure.
@MrMark no insecurity here, the light of Belichick warms my life.
13 fantasy points for Brady- meh.
@sammydog01 yeah the injuries and whistles were not on our side last night. It is tough but if the football gods do not test our faith with such trials we cannot truly claim to be faithful.
@jbartus I guess it was better than -7.
@sammydog01 that's the spirit, dwell not on the negatives of that which we receive but instead count the blessings we have been given. May the light of Belichick shine upon you.
I hate there wasn't a TL;DR...that's several minutes of my life I'll never get back...here lemme help!
TL;DR
I like the Patriots. They are MY Patriots, I take ownership of them and shift their success to me as a fan.
...
Not sure what that apostrophe is doing on Hater's...apparently the Haters are taking possession of something..quite similar to you taking possession of Football team and their success.
@studerc it's a contraction, just like the one I just used in this sentence.
@jbartus Strange choice. Most would just say Haters Gonna Hate...implying that multiple people (Patriot Fans) are going to hate. But instead you simply imply that only you hate. Ok. Are you taking full responsibility for the hate?
@studerc let me try to clear this up...
(A) Hater's Gonna Hate
General observation, nothing to do with me.
@jbartus but your contraction now clearly states Hater is gonna hate. Since its your thread and long as intro message you clearly are referring to yourself. As clear as mud dude. Take a seat.
@studerc this debate is becoming sophomoric in nature. If you wish to read it as me being the hater or whatever, go for it. :)
@jbartus Dont tell me what to do.
@studerc now we're getting really sophomoric. I didn't tell you what to do, I told you that you were free to do as you please without interference from me. :|
@jbartus So easy. Thanks for the humor.
Gump.
Expected: Taylor Swift
Received: Football
@hollboll THIS IS NOW A TAYLOR SWIFT THREAD
@hollboll
@MrMark you beat me to it, thanks
@Lotsofgoats
@hollboll
@Lotsofgoats
@hollboll
(fun fact - this is hosted at speaker.house.gov, lel)
@Lotsofgoats
@hollboll
@Lotsofgoats @hollboll Did somebody ask for Taylor Swift?
@MrMark I love that!
ah yes, another thread from a patriots fan saying that other fan bases whine a lot. hm. hm. hmmm. data.
anyway you will never faze me with this because I'm a Giants fan and my stinky team with a doofy QB absolutely STOLE two super bowls from you suckers hahahahahahahahaha
@Lotsofgoats I can't help but agree with your choice of terms. :)
@jbartus This is going against every fiber of my being, but I will tell you to be strong, he is with you in spirit. Hold the line.
Even if he is an ass
And I made you a parting treat from him, complete with sprinkles.
(West coast, bitches!)
@jaremelz I accept your jimmy coated confection with great honor, thank you. May the light of Belichick shine upon you always.
@cinoclav Not all bunnies are created equal.
@cinoclav Patriots Nation will not discriminate against you for your fashion preferences. Pope Belichick himself has been known to wear ratty old sweatshirts in public.
@jaremelz she would look better in some of the other outfits you've shared.
@jbartus anybody who "hates" a sports team needs to work on their life choices. Just like all those Patriots fans who feel the need to preemptively, publicly defend their team need to reevaluate their life choices.
@Mehntok it wasn't preemptive, I was prompted to by @ceagee
@jbartus You need to learn that it's all @christinewas fault. We do have a scapegoat for a reason. If you are going to come out of lurker mode you must grasp this concept. ;-)
@ceagee good point. I was prompted to by @ceageee but it was all @christinewas' fault.
@jbartus dude, you started an original thread. reply to @ceagee where @ceagee made a comment unless you want responses like this. I'm not going to look up the definition of words for you.
@Mehntok the prompt was to make a thread about it so it wouldn't be off-topic.
Nothing says "Meh" like a great forum going to total shit, fast . . . Take this tripe to SB Nation, where people might actually give a fuck.
@Pavlov
@Thumperchick Guy starts a thread inviting haters hating and I need a Snickers? Yeah, I probably do - but srsly . . .
At least T-swizzle is eye candy. Redeems the thread.
@Pavlov
@Thumperchick I ❤ U - Thx. I need five minutes with @MrsPavlov now.
Who am I kidding . . . two minutes after that gif . .
@Pavlov It's better if you know what line she's singing for you. "I can make the bad guys good... for the weekend."
@Pavlov
@Thumperchick She can sing the telephone directory for all I care, as long as I get to watch.
@Lotsofgoats Great. Now I just need tissue.
@Pavlov no invitation for haters hating here, just an outpouring of empathy for misguided haters and an invitation to come into the fold and bask in the fellowship of Patriots Nation.
Regarding Taylor Swift, I do have to say she's pretty attractive. :)
@jbartus Bask in this . . .
Thread derailed.
@Pavlov I am already basking in the glow of the light of Belichick, thank you for the offer, though.
@Pavlov Call the wife or grab the tissues, whichever is closer...
@cinoclav Yeah, the middle one does it for me . . . I know, I'm a freak.
@Pavlov Nope, that was my favorite. Freaks unite.
@Thumperchick if you feel that the thread title is objectionable or sets the wrong tone feel free to change it to something fitting. :)
@jbartus lolwut? You lit the Hater Bat-Signal - you're going down with this under-inflated thread.
@Thumperchick under inflated?
At any rate it was in reaction to something Pavlov said, I'm happy to enlighten any haters who choose to come, just not trying to incite a riot so if the title was problematic... :)
@jbartus ( @studerc tagged for grins ) - Everyone is learning all they need to know about you within the fabric of this very thread. Good work, keep it up!
@Pavlov *thumbs up.
@Pavlov I feel like some of the tongue in cheek intent of the thread has been lost in translation somewhere.
@studerc There's a whole lot of fuckery going on studer - not just in this thread, but with several "newer" members. Seems like it is all just an:
@Pavlov I noticed in the past week or so several members that have jumped into a spotlight role. Sitting back first to analyze their presence, habits, and behavior before pouncing.
@Pavlov Do you know where @jbartus came from?
Hey, @jbartus...have you been lurking or whats going on? Most people dont jump into these forums with that much tenacity. Your behavior is both alarming and amusing. I need more info to build my behavioral profile.
@studerc I lurked. And then I posted... something... I forget what. And resulting from that I met @mfladd, then through @mfladd I met @jaremelz, and so I posted some more, and then I was posting patriots stuff in a thread, and it kinda got off topic so at the behest of @ceagee I made this thread.
To be fair @ceagee suggested 'Hardworking Bills to task "cry baby" Brady's Pats' for the thread title, but given the general objectionable nature thereof and in light of the fact that current events at the time of posting this made such a title inaccurate and chronologically lacking, I elected to go with another title. It is possible that coming up with a title at 4 AM was not my best idea, but I went with it and so it sticks.
Is there a normal place for Mehmbers to come from?
@jbartus We burst forth from the loins of the internet. It's not a pretty thing to behold.
@Thumperchick well, I'm sure that the light of Belichick shines even there. :)
Knock knock....
Who's there
Ten
Ten who?
10 & 0 bitches!!!!!
Rant done... Proceed with your sniffling about how (your team here) is losing to the pats...
Hope I don't get banned for this... It really was in good fun....
@Squid_07 Are you referring to our glorious Carolina Panthers?
Welcome, brother @Squid_07. I am confident that the light of Belichick will preserve you from harm even here, in this land of heathens.
@jqubed They haven't played the Patriots yet. It would be pretty epic if the Patriots and the Panthers both went undefeated all the way and met in the Super Bowl with 16-0 regular season records and perfect playoff records. :)
May the light of Belichick shine upon you always.
@jbartus how glorious the battle will be to see Carolina fall to the great patriots
@Squid_07 perhaps such an occasion will elicit an ever-rare smile from our benevolent leader, Pope Belichick.
I'm just going to put this here.
@marklog why is that kitten wearing a dress?
@jbartus because it doesn't like pants, idk.
@marklog the things people put their pets into...
@jbartus Or into their pets, right @marklog?
@lisaviolet that's just cruel. I read that thread last night. D:
@jbartus @lisaviolet i knew that was coming..
@marklog Your dog didn't...
@Thumperchick neither did his wife...
Go Phins! Fuck the Pats.
@Teripie I have faith that our benevolent leader Pope Belichick has plans well in hand to squish the fish.
@jbartus Oh hell yeah! The Dolphins stink! You never know which Dolphins team is gonna com e out of the locker room! But I stay faithful. (At least I'm not a hard core Jaguar fan like my son!)
@Teripie that's one of the great things about living in New England, fair weather fans aren't really a thing here (even before the 21st century when we started winning everything) so you have my respect, even if you're a Dolphins fan. :P
Where in Florida are you from that he felt he had a choice in the matter as to team allegiance? Orlando or something? xD
@jbartus We're NW Florida, but location has little to do with our football allegiances. We are all faithful to 3 different teams. Besides the 2 Florida ones hubby's from Pittsburgh, so that's in the mix too.
@connorbush look how happy those potatoes are basking in the warm glow of the light of Belichick
hey look here's an article written by a patriots fan
http://deadspin.com/the-patriots-are-sketchy-and-deserve-scrutiny-1744511593
@Lotsofgoats considering the citations he makes in that posting.... no, he isn't. I mean seriously, the articles he linked don't even try to assume a journalistic tone, among other issues. If those are the examples of 'evidence' he found convincing... I have doubts about his general intelligence, never mind his fandom.
Meanwhile, in San Diego, the local news recently had an article that the Chargers still have a chance.
@lisaviolet I don't even...
@lisaviolet Have you seen the AFC West? You have Oakland, Kansas City, and Denver's falling apart as fast as Peyton Manning's body. Father time is cruel. Philip Rivers could very well be the best quarterback in that division now. Too bad he doesn't have much of a team around him.
@jqubed I think that was the point, they've got two wins on the season with six losses. They'd have to win every game for the rest of the season. I'd say it's more likely for KC to win 4 of 6 than SD to win 6 in a row, and I doubt Denver would lose 6 in a row.
@jbartus Denver might if they let Peyton start again. Have you seen the AFC South, though? As terrible as they all are, they're all still in the race.
@jqubed yeah it's pretty remarkable. Someone has to be first loser, I guess. Not every team can be the Patriots. :D
@jbartus Do not take this as an endorsement by myself in any way of your team. I found it while trolling for a different team's vid today and figured you'd appreciate it. Regardless of how I feel about the fucking Pats (seriously, I'm being nice here, let's not get into the usual bs), this is kind of funny.
Again, fucking not an endorsement! If you want one of those, feel free to email the Pats fan at mehgoat@yahoo.com, he probably would get a kick out of hearing from you. He did like running into another Pats fan here.
And sorry @Pavlov that there isn't more TS in there for you
@jaremelz I know you're secretly a closeted member of the Church of Foxborough. Don't worry, your secret is safe with me. :)
I'll see about emailing him on Friday or so, crazy holiday stuff and all that. :P
@jbartus Trust me, if I wouldn't cross to the dark side for him, no way will I ever. My hate is real and keeps me warm at night.
Enjoy your holiday!
@jaremelz I understand. ;)
@jaremelz
@Pavlov The gloves are coming off
@jaremelz Yum
On that '85 Bears team: a linebacker named Ron Rivera, who you might now know better as the head coach of the Carolina Panthers.
@jqubed Sometimes I miss the shit out of football in the 80s. Last time I really followed it. Of course, I've forgotten most of it at this point, but the feeling of how great it was to watch lingers.
@jaremelz The age gap between us must be bigger than I thought, because I was too young in the '80s to really be aware of football, let alone understand and appreciate it. I've heard stories, though.
@jqubed Yeah, I graduated high school in '89. I just don't act like a grown up. That's overrated.
@jaremelz @jqubed
I try not to think too much about 80s football. The Pats weren't much to watch back then >.>
@jbartus Exactly ;)
Oh yeah... that felt good. E-A-G-L-E-S!
@cinoclav how adorable was that trick play though :3
