@shahnm HA HA HA Great question. No-my 24 year old African Grey Parrot is Walter who I don’t keep in a cage and let him do pretty much whatever he wants.
@shahnm My wife wanted me clarify my response so people don’t think we have shit on the floors all over the house. No carpet luckily, but it is a never ending struggle to keep up with Walter and his travels. At least he usually follows the same route so wiping up after him is relatively easy.
@Felton10 Assuming you clip Walter’s wings, one would imagine you’re correct. If you don’t clip his wings, probably not as effective, you know, flight and all.
@Doooood We get his wings clipped once a year during his annual checkup, wing and claw clip. Wings are only clipped so he can’t achieve much height or distance so he doesn’t crash if he tries to fly. He actually prefers to climb down from his cage or play gym rather than fly down to the floor. He walks around the house looking for us, but for some reason always ends up in the master bathroom.
@haydesigner Same with my dog. She may only be 15 lbs, but anything short of 6FT tall, she can jump over (And even that I’m not 100% sure of if she REALLY wanted over it, that’s just the highest I’ve tested her jump!)
@haydesigner@Jamileigh17 At the shelter we have some dogs, including medium sized dogs, who can jump out of their kennel. The walls on those are 8’ tall. We have to put chain link across the top. While technically their rear legs don’t clear the top, their top legs do and so they climb the rest of the way out. Without even a running start I watch them leap up, hitting the top of the thing.
@pat4ever My dog could easily clear my gates but doesn’t because she’s not supposed to. I have been unable to train her to stop unless there’s a physical gate there. One of us isn’t very smart. Probably both of us.
The question I’d have is how easy is it for dogs to push it forward and then escape out the side. I’d think putting up in reverse - having it so that if they push it that the sides push into the wall rather than away from it like in the photos. This wouldn’t hold in even medium sized jumpers as it isn’t very high.
@Kidsandliz yea both my dogs would blow through this like it’s not there. Neither would jump, it’d just be nose to a corner and out they go, or knock the whole thing over
What manor of rampart is this? A Belvedere it is not! No moat included or vats to keep the beast from my keep! I cannot view from a parapet the enemy. I need a Bastion on my donjon. I need a portcullis that is unbreakable preferably a yett.
I’ve had really good results with (a similar) pet gate, with various small/non-hyper dogs over many years; still have the gates, so I don’t need this now. You can get a similar product occasionally (in plastic) for ~$30, this seems like a fairly good deal, if you have small or older dogs of the non-athletic variety.
I have a use for this, but I’m at that weird threshold of handiness where this is too expensive to buy since I know I could build my own… but I also know I won’t.
I know that won’t make sense to some people, but to those who get what I mean: does that make this a justifiable purchase? I mean obviously it doesn’t… but does it?
@dvermilion@TrickyKitty Unless you have wood, hardware, and stain leftover in your garage I bet you wouldn’t save that much building it yourself. Stuff is expensive.
@uscpsycho It says that’s for the Oak style. It’s exactly what the dimensions above say also. The Cherry style says 24". It also states it’s for Small to Medium dogs.
@Humanosaurus Haha. In Macbeth, the wifey is talking about the mental anguish and imaginary blood spots on her soul that won’t come out while she’s more or less sleepwalking. I don’t think of my dog as a blood spot on my soul.
@Humanosaurus yeah I was a little offended by that myself. I know they’re trying to be funny, but that’s a pretty negative way to think about a member of your family.
My dogs would generally respect the barrier even if they could jump over it. However, since I actually own two violas, I am clearly not sophisticated enough for this product. Pass.
I foster pit bull puppies…over 60 so far…and I’ve been using a barrier like this to surround the front and sides of a very expensive and ornate oak buffet. The barrier keeps them from chewing up the parts that they can reach, and it works famously for that. I also have one that I use in the kitchen when I’m fixing them a meal. That one discourages them from getting underfoot when they are excited about food, and it begins to teach them to respect barriers. I wouldn’t necessarily expect one of these barriers to keep a reasonably active dog from going from one room to another (there are larger hinged gates that are designed to do that job), but these smaller, free-standing units do have their uses.
Pet barrier? I don’t think so. MAYBE a small dog-thing with short legs barrier. That is, if the dog can’t knock it over. My cats wouldn’t even notice it.
Wait - it might work for other types of pets - say, goldfish.

WTF!
This is way nicer than the flattened box I’m using. My bean bag chair came in it. That’s recycling, right?
@sammydog01 I too am a cardboard enthusiast. It’s not like my cat could even tell the difference anyway.
I assume it will keep Walter from walking around our house and shitting on the floor.
@Felton10 Are… are you… Walter?
@shahnm HA HA HA Great question. No-my 24 year old African Grey Parrot is Walter who I don’t keep in a cage and let him do pretty much whatever he wants.

OH MY GOD THEY… UM… PET BARRIERED GLEN!!!
YEAH. THAT’S WHAT THEY DID…
OK.
@shahnm You bastards!!
@shahnm somehow glen “transcended the situation.” Oh Glen finally getting the big G. It’s like an unsplit infinitive.
Cool idea, especially since I just got a custody puppy a couple of months ago. But she’s going to easily jump over that.
@haydesigner Same with my dog. She may only be 15 lbs, but anything short of 6FT tall, she can jump over (And even that I’m not 100% sure of if she REALLY wanted over it, that’s just the highest I’ve tested her jump!)

What is this, a pet barrier for ants? Only the laziest, most floor-ridden dog would be unable to clamber over this.
@pat4ever Ants would go through the slats.
@katbyter @pat4ever
@pat4ever This barrier might mildly inconvenience my greyhound.
@pat4ever My dog could easily clear my gates but doesn’t because she’s not supposed to. I have been unable to train her to stop unless there’s a physical gate there. One of us isn’t very smart. Probably both of us.

Either you meant ‘deign’ in the story, or you could try to convince us you were making a bad pun, because a Great Dane is a type of dog.

A Chinese made product with a series of US Patents listed on the box. They are getting so brazen as to tell us exactly which patents they stole!!
@hchavers There’s plenty of American companies that outsource the manufacturing to China.
@TrickyKitty how dare your try to diffuse my strong emotions with your facts
Rubberwood sounds like possibly the least hard of the hardwoods.
Gluewood, on the other hand… that’s all you.
@dvermilion Justified depends on the extent of the need.
@dvermilion You could, but you won’t. So justified, no. Totally acceptable otherwise, yes.
@dvermilion @TrickyKitty Unless you have wood, hardware, and stain leftover in your garage I bet you wouldn’t save that much building it yourself. Stuff is expensive.
Amazon says the specs are 40.9 x 17.7 x 20.3. If that’s right, this is 4" shorter than indicated here.
I have a big dog that respects small barriers but 20" does not a barrier make. This is way too short.
@uscpsycho It says that’s for the Oak style. It’s exactly what the dimensions above say also. The Cherry style says 24". It also states it’s for Small to Medium dogs.
The model number is “Out Out Damn Dog”? Why has no one mentioned this?
@Humanosaurus Haha. In Macbeth, the wifey is talking about the mental anguish and imaginary blood spots on her soul that won’t come out while she’s more or less sleepwalking. I don’t think of my dog as a blood spot on my soul.
@Humanosaurus yeah I was a little offended by that myself. I know they’re trying to be funny, but that’s a pretty negative way to think about a member of your family.
I have a different Richell free standing gate. They are good quality products.
lol - wow - so high no dog could possibly get past it!
These things are a joke. Unless you have one of those wheelchair-bound dogs this thing is nearly pointless.
I was excited until I saw the height. Sigh. Too short to work for puppy! He will see that as a challenge
My dogs would generally respect the barrier even if they could jump over it. However, since I actually own two violas, I am clearly not sophisticated enough for this product. Pass.
I see what you did there - it made my inner pedant rise up, before containing it in the observed humor. Well done!
@ManBehindPlan You think it was deliberate? I’m not so sure… further supported by the “principals” in the later paragraph. “Release Your Inner Pedant”

if you clip their wings, your dog or cat wont be able to jump over this.
I was all over this until I saw it was only 20 in tall. Seriously? Even a chihuahua could jump over that.
Pet barrier? I don’t think so. MAYBE a small dog-thing with short legs barrier. That is, if the dog can’t knock it over. My cats wouldn’t even notice it.
