Why does my phone battery suddenly drain so fast?

Has anyone else had this happen? My phone battery has started dropping way faster than usual, even when I’m barely using it. I’ve checked the obvious stuff like brightness and background apps, but nothing seems to explain it. Any simple fixes I should try before blaming the battery?

Check for apps that have GPS tracking turned on all the time, and apps in general with full-time access to phone functions that they only need when using the app - or don’t need at all. Particularly store shopping apps; those are greedy about tracking when they aren’t in use.

Live Photos, screen brightness, anything that tracks your location, being in a low service area, apps open in the background….

Thanks for the suggestions! I hadn’t thought about GPS permissions and updates being a possible culprit. I’m going to check the battery usage and location settings for a few apps and see if that makes a difference.

What kind of phone and what year was it new?

Then check all setting and permissions.

Set your power saving mode or whatever it’s called to start power saving when the battery still has lots of charge.

Your battery may be older and need a replacement.

Phone batteries lose power more quickly when the phone is warmer than ac temp.

If you’re barely using it, try turning on airplane mode for a day or two and have screen automatically blank after 30 seconds. If your phone battery still remains high all day, some app (or even a system updater) is trying very hard when you’re online.

Short of it: the biggest drains are the screen (1st) and connectivity (wifi Bluetooth cell NFC). Plus other environmental factors (age, heat).

We would really need to know the phone model and what “way faster” means.

What was the previous rate/time to zero? What is the current time? Was it a sudden change? If sudden what was recently installed or updated?

Wouldn’t be the first time a OTA update caused a power issue.
