Happy World Elephant Day! 🐘

Supporting elephants, every step of the journey. From the moment we rescue an orphaned calf to the day they return to the wild with calves of their own—this is our promise to every elephant we save.

Thanks to donors like you, it’s a promise we keep. This special film celebrates both the individual lives you’ve transformed and the big picture conservation work that protects their future.

Nairobi Nursery Livestream with Head Keeper Edwin

A New Chapter for Our Rascals, Shujaa and Weka

Last Wednesday, Nursery rascals Weka (left) and Shujaa (right) graduated to our Ithumba Reintegration Unit, where they will continue their journey back to the wild. It was high time for our notorious pair to broaden their horizons in a bigger, wilder environment — and perhaps even learn some humility from older elephant friends in the process!

Full story to come, but we wanted to share this exciting news. Only time will tell if Shujaa and Weka will continue their mischievous streak in their new home — watch this space!

Inspiring the Next Generation of Elephant Guardians

For many children in rural Kenya, elephants represent fear. But when students meet our orphan herd firsthand, everything changes. They discover that elephants are complex, loving, and wonderfully intelligent beings deserving of our respect and protection.

A Pilot’s Perspective:
How We Saved Three Wild Elephants in a Single Day

Every year, our pilots help save hundreds of elephant lives — from orphan rescues to injured patients treated in the field. In this film, SWT pilot Taru Carr-Hartley walks us through a day in which we helped save three elephants: two injured bulls who were spotted during a routine aerial patrol, and a third who was discovered in the process.

Marathon days with multiple treatments are not unusual for our teams. Because of aerial support, we are able to locate animals in need, mobilise teams over vast distances, and save wild lives across Kenya.

Photo of the Month

Nairobi Nursery: Maxwell is the model host as his warthog friends join him for a rather casual dinner! We rescued Max 18 years ago, after our Keepers found him lost and crying in the forest. We soon discovered that he was blind, as a result of a congenital eye condition. Because he would not be able to survive in the wild, Max has a forever home with us and is a great favorite of everyone at the Nursery.
