Halloween Music!
12What do you like? I tend towards prog and folk rock myself, but the song list grows longer every year.
Albums:
Goblin, Suspiria
Possibly better than the movie.
Comus, First Utterance
There is nothing, nothing like this album. Stick around for “Drip Drip.”
Black Widow, Sacrifice
This album is all jazzy and ridiculous, if you can’t stand the whole thing just try "Come to the Sabbat"
Coven, **Witchcraft Destroys Minds and Reaps Souls"
Ends with a 20-minute black mass. Plan accordingly.
Songs:
Vivian Stanshall’s BiG gRunt, "11 Mustachioed Daughters"
Pretty Things, "Baron Saturday"
The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, "Fire"
Barry Dransfield, "The Werewolf"
Donovan, "Song of Wandering Aengus"
This is just a jumping-off point–there’s a lot of crazy stuff out there THAT YOU SHOULD POST. And I will too!

Nice!
I still love this…
@mfladd You found a great video for it!
Marilyn Manson.
Note: The Nightmare Before Christmas Rules!
45 Grave Riboflavin
@cercopithecoid You know, I never listened to the original (below) because this version is so good.
@mfladd "Unfinished Sweet"
I’m always reminding people to include psychobilly in their playlists. For starters:
/youtube Batmobile zombie riot
@Oneroundrobb There is so much out there, so many weird little novelty tracks from the '50’s and forward. It’s glorious. I just heard this song for the first time tonight, while looking up “Luke the Spook” in an entirely different discussion:
Rod Willis, "The Cat"
Should’ve started with this, actually:
/youtube the meteors little red riding hood
@Oneroundrobb Keep 'em coming!
Seems appropriate (it’s long, but it’s still fun):
@Shrdlu VERY appropriate!
Not music so much
@duodec Sir or madam: spoken word and otherwise is welcome here.
Vincent Price, Witchcraft-Magic: An Adventure in Demonology
@duodec Ooh, look what else I found! Vincent Price, A Hornbook for Witches
@mossygreen
There was a meh movie called Hocus Pocus some years ago. Didn’t like it but then one of my favorite Youtube artists did a cover of the song one of the witches sings as she tries to lure the children to their sacrificial demise…
@mossygreen I had that album for years. I can still quote that preamble verbatim.
@duodec Hey, I SAW Hocus Pocus in the theater as an adult (who insisted on going to a children’s movie about witches) when it came out! I loved it, but more on principle than anything else. I remain perplexed by its resurgence as a cultural touchstone. Man, now I want to watch The Witches again.
@moondrake I am envious of you.
@mossygreen I first saw it on TV. Then again and again and again as it repeated endlessly on several channels prior to Halloween. It was ok once. But others in the household liked it so it was on over and over and over and…
But the redo of the song by Erutan is awesome.
@duodec Oh, agreed. I would expect a different movie entirely based on it.
Time for a little Zacherley? "Dinner With Drac"
You know, I only heard this song a few years back on a tiny independent radio station, and I suddenly understood the spoken word part at the end of Bonzo Dog’s Version of “The Monster Mash.” It just goes to show: it’s never too late to learn something new that you probably should have already known.
Louis Armstrong, "Skeleton in the Closet"
The Brian Sisters, "The Boogie Woogie Man"
Amanda Lear, "Blood & Honey"
A couple of Bowie songs
Diamond Dogs
Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps)
@mflassy Who stole the kishka?
@mossygreen
/youtube every dance is better with polka music
/youtube you’re dead Norma tanga
/youtube squirrel nut zippers hell
@Oneroundrobb I don’t care what anyone says, horn sections are great.
/youtube boris the spider
@Oneroundrobb I totally forgot this song exists, and I am ashamed.
any halloween playlist should include:
All you music buffs should come join us in the unofficially sponsored music room on dubtrack.fm: https://www.dubtrack.fm/join/sub-optimal-music
Sometimes it’s empty, sometimes it’s got 6-8 people sharing music every day.
Lots of Rob Zombie. But my favorites are
The Cruxshadows` "Monsters"
And Pat Benatar`s version of the very creepy "Wuthering Heights"
This Rolling Stones article links a lot of great creepy tunes. Most I’d never heard of.
Midnight Syndicate, the go-to soundtrack of Halloween stores nationwide
@ThomasF Hmm, reminds me that I haven’t posted any Foetus yet!
Here Comes the Rain
When I get home I’ll have to go through these comments and see what I can add to my Halloween playlist on Spotify.
Here’s some songs you can play when you need to get everyone to leave your Halloween Party.
@sanspoint Ah, the second song started and I was like, “what the hell is this? Psychic TV?” I was close.
I disapprove of Eva O’s pursuing a relationship with incarcerated serial killer Richard Ramirez back in the '80’s, but it does add an extra dimension to her work.
Angel of Death
Night Stalker
Killing Moon
King Missile, "The Love Song"
Some Lydia Lunch:
Afraid of Your Company
(w/Rowland S. Howard) I Fell in Love With a Ghost
Two songs I heard on college radio station WNUR in 1988:
Bomb, "I Loved You Then I Died"
Algebra Suicide, "Little Dead Bodies"
One song I found on youtube while looking for Lydia Lunch/Sort Sol collaborations:
DA! "Dark Rooms"
