"Grade A Refurbished"?
3Over in Woot’s bargain bin there is a listing for a video doorbell that is described as being “grade A refurbished”. Upon seeing this, my twisted mind translated that as “we haven’t really tested it, but it looks good and we don’t know that there’s anything wrong with it”. Grade b would therefore mean that they do know that there’s something wrong with it.
How would you decode it?

I’d say grade A refurbished is we actually looked at it, plugged it in and an expected light came on, and there’s no scratches or dirt obviously on it. Good chance it even comes with all the pieces it’s supposed to come with. Grade B refurbished might be looked at but probably has some scratches.
Grade A : We got at least 90% correctly done on what we attempted to fix. (The other <= 10% is up to you, cleaning included…)
@phendrick The whole point of calling something refurbished is that it’s been cleaned up and made pretty. The term says nothing whatsoever about whether the item actually works. So I’m figuring that if they are giving it a refurbishment grade, they’re proud of how pretty they’ve made it. But that’s all.
@phendrick @werehatrack link since it’s woot not meh?
That is a new one but I have bought manufacturer refurbished from both woot and meh. There is a tiny purple line on my Vizio 55 inch that I can barely see and it took years for it to do that. That was my 1080p set for… I think 15 years.
I still have my pre meh woot shark refurb vacuum.
The way I generally look at it is if it is a good product . The refurbs will be fine. Either someone returned it brand new. Or it had. Problem and was fixed. By definition they should have tested it to fix and resell it as refurbished which is a higher test rate than just off the line. Usually a reasonable warranty
However if it’s not manufacture refurbished… Someone could have just bought a pallet of broke crap and that… Is schetchy

Yeppers. When I went back to try to find it, the listing was gone.
Grade A = We had Grade A eggs in our omelette for breakfast.
@yakkoTDI From a functionality standpoint, that might be dead on target.
