GoPro Hero4 Session: The new Drone cam standard?
0Just when I think I've got myself all sorted out with my new Hero3+, GoPro introduces the Hero4 Session 73g compact action cam:
The specs look suitable for what we do, supporting 1440p/30, and 1080p/60. Dimensions are 38mmx38mmx35mm. They've eliminated the HDMI port and GoPro port, sticking with just a single USB port and a microSD slot.

One potential downer: doesn't look like it has any provisions for fpv output. But other than that, it looks awesome.
@djslack I'm guessing the USB port may be a standard GoProUSB. But that's just a guess.
Fine for shooting video not for FPV in situations where you are moving from low light to bright light the refresh time can kill your quad. Also I wonder how well it'd stay put on the Gimbal? I'm having enough sliding issues with the Hero 3+ as is and it has the Velcro strap going around the lens. I don't see a good way to attach this to a gimbal :(. Unless you want it to be the only thing that ever gets attached.
I've been doing some research and most FPV fliers are using their GoPro's only to record what they're doing not to use as the FPV camera. But I do have to say it does look nice.
Hmm that all said I need to pull out my Lytro and see if there's any firmware updates and if it's ever going to get a take a photo every X seconds mode.
expensive and not worth the $$ IMO.
@garyhgaryh Agreed. But give it a year and let the price drop to a more respectable level. I like the idea of a smaller size and lighter weight.
@ruouttaurmind yeah most likely it will drop in price in a year or so. By then the counterfeits or the copy cats will have them out in the market place..
