Google Opinion Rewards
10I know this has been discussed before, because I found out about it here in April, but I can’t find a previous topic.
Is anyone else getting a flood of surveys? I’ve gotten twenty since Friday morning. They are all paying well, too; no dimes, and all but one over twenty-six cents.
So far it’s 20 surveys for $7.21 in about 48 hours. Now Google knows I don’t go foraging for truffles.

I’ve gotten 9, one dime, one 17¢, and everything else 27¢ or more.
It’s a lot more than usual for me. I looked back and there was several months that it took me ten days to get 9.
I remember in the old thread that you or someone else got probably three or four times as many surveys as me.
I got a new phone on a Black Friday sale, and just realized last night that I hadn’t been getting surveys and turned on the app. Guess I’ve been missing out on a survey bonanza.
I can’t find the topic that alerted me to it, but here’s two different topics started on the same day and they were having a flood of surveys then.

I barely get them at all. Wonder if it’s because google doesn’t like that I have an iPhone.
I have no idea what you guys are talking about. What are google surveys? Please tell.
@moonhat if you have an Android, go to the play store and download the Rewards app from Google. Looks like a little blue trophy. (The thread icon photo is the one.) Google will track you everywhere and ask you little surveys. You get play store credit which you can also use to pay for YouTube premium or Google music.
@RiotDemon what if I have an iPhone
@moonhat On iPhone they’ll send you real money via PayPal. Though, I get the impression they send far fewer surveys to iOS users.
I’ve gotten none lately but I have a survey Play balance of $121 so maybe that is why.
@readnj I thought I was ballin at $21.
@djslack I checked after this post and haven’t seen one since Nov 12th!
@djslack @readnj yeah, I haven’t seen one since December 6th. Ebbs and flows I guess
@readnj
Don’t the rewards expire after a year?
@readnj buy ebooks, movies, game credits.
I just switched from Android to iPhone last month. My Android phone keeps getting surveys (3-4 per week) and my iPhone gets far fewer… maybe 1-2 per month.
I’ve been getting 1 a day since joining, I have it on iPad not bad for some free money
Help needed, please!
I have an invite to participate in the Google OpinionRewards program, but I’m really hesitant to do so. Google wants to put meters (or software, I guess) on all telephones, TVs, computers, tablets, and any other electronic device they can think of. (They will literally send an installer to my home if I can’t install the stuff myself.) They want to collect everything that comes in from any source, including any websites or TV programs I go to, all data including SS number, email addresses, taps or clicks I make, what ads show up on any device or TV and whether and how I respond to them or not, AND put audio collectors on TVs and devices that will pick up any “nearby audio” (conversations and what they can hear running in the background, such as TVs and radios). It sounds as if BIG BROTHER sent me an invitation to let him live in my house and car.
There’s no mention of surveys in the very extensive list of what they want to keep track of. There’s a $100+ sign-up bonus plus other rewarded behavior/reporting, all of it paid on a three-month schedule.
Does any of this sound like you do or have declined to do for Google? I wasn’t overly concerned about their access to device/TV-driven data, but the eavesdropping on anything they can hear in the background has me fairly spooked. I can guarantee there won’t be any meter on the TV in the bedroom, but I keep my phone by my bedside, and as adults with no one else in the house our frisky behavior happens anywhere and anywhen in the place including rooms with computers and phones in them.
Any ideas on this Google project? Feedback would really be appreciated.
@magic_cave

Naw, man. This is just, like, answering surveys and stuff. Two to four questions about something like what store you just went to or if you subscribe to some weird magazine. Nothing like that.
Of course, the money is nothing like that either. It’s like ten to twenty-five cents.
I suggest you sign up for it but install all the stuff at a neighbor’s house.
@djslack I’m midway into filling out a huge registration thingy, but the further I went the antsier I got. (And I know The Spouse will get seriously uproarious over it.) The cheery little comment that it’s my responsibility to warn any guests in my home that Google is collecting everything it can hear put the brakes on filling things out.
@magic_cave I’m not sure that they could offer an amount of monetary compensation that would let me willingly and knowingly give them access to something like that.
On the other hand, I have absolutely paid good money to both Amazon and Google to put boxes in my house with microphones on them, and rely on just their word that they’re not doing exactly that.
Maybe I should try to sign up and at least get something for the data.
@djslack I’d happily send you mine, except they’re apparently sorting on some set of demographics and have an individualized personal number. Mine came with a notice that only one in every 30,000 Florida households was receiving it. They evidently aren’t cross-sorting on ACLU members or I suspect I’d never have received it. They also tracked me down to give me a reminder notice that I hadn’t yet replied to their first mailing a couple of weeks ago. No shit. Thanks for the reply.
@djslack The reason i don’t think that Alexa is eavesdropping and listening when i haven’t said the wake word is that i believe there are people out there packet sniffing the devices, and they be raising hell if they caught one transmitting data when it wasn’t supposed to.
@craigthom @djslack I found another data point; apparently I’m not the only person balking at a listening device. Their explanation is that the device is only listening for any music or TV in the background. They say the device converts conversation to a digital imprint unreadable by humans and immediately deletes the conversation itself. That’s somewhat more acceptable, depending on how much one trusts Google these days.
@magic_cave it sounds like they want to gauge your exposure to ads (and media, with the ever blurring line between the two) outside of their usual reach and measure the efficacy of those competing media on your buying behavior. They already have access to what you do online and likely most of what you buy, along with possibly where you go, how often, and how long you spend there. About the only thing they don’t know without that is what you see and hear in meatspace.
I’m not sure whether a corporate big brother learning how to affect what you buy is any less scary than an authoritarian government one.
@djslack @magic_cave That’s for Google, right? I don’t think Alexa listens unless spoken to.
The wake words are recognised in the device (she still responds when the device is offline (to tell you it’s offline)). Google may be using server-based voice recognition all the time. I think a TV manufacturer caused a stink by doing that.
Anyone else getting the offer where they double your payment if you write your review in rhymes? I’m not a good rhymer, but I’ve been taking the extra effort because I still feel like it’s a mistake in their system and I need to cash in while I can.
And one time I was stuck so I just pasted in a few stanzas of Paradise Lost, and they still gave me an extra $0.45, even though it’s blank verse, not rhyming at all!? Lol, google you are so unlettered, lol.
I had a dearth of surveys for a couple months, and while I’ve gotten no where near this amount, I’ve definitely seen way more than usual over the last week or so.
I used to get them daily but haven’t gotten any since July 26th ?? Maybe it’s because I spend money on Google pay via my game I play ? Anybody else have this same thing happen to them ? Merry Christmas to all of you that celebrate it !
Happy Chanukah to those who celebrate that !
Whatever else you may or may not celebrate … enjoy your loved ones & hopefully gratitude finds it’s way into your holiday season.

@Amila99 Happy Festivus! For the rest of us!
I usually get four or five a month, but haven’t gotten anything since the middle of November. Could it be they want a specific demographic that you fit?
@DVDBZN I don’t think that’s it. Usually i get asked if I’ve been to places near where I’ve actually been, but these have mostly been random things for demographics in not in. weird.
I haven’t gotten a survey in a long time
That happened to me a couple months ago. Lost count of the number of surveys, but it earned me an extra $14 and change in two days–a couple of them paid over a dollar. The program is really handy for me since I’m a tightwad when it comes to paying for apps, but I don’t mind dropping some free Google Play money for them.
How does one sign up for these magic surveys?

@RiotDemon tyvm
Yeah my surveys have really spiked here lately. I’m glad that they are.
