Going for my 3rd promotion in 2.5 years
21I’m not sure if it’s the smartest move, but I hope so. I found out a director is leaving my organization yesterday. I saw the job posted last night and I applied. Today I was scheduled for an interview on Thursday with the CFO
Please keep your fingers crossed for me

Just imagine the CFO naked
No, wait, that’s public speaking
Never mind
Good luck!

Interesting. A director is leaving my organization as well. Wonder if it is the same person.
Good luck either way.

Break a leg. You got this!
How exciting! Good luck! Fingers are crossed!
Good for you! Is it similar to current your current job with additional responsibilities or different/better?
@speediedelivery different/better
T minus 2 hours 45 minutes until my interview. This is the first of at least 3 I’ll have to do including the CFO, a VP, and the President/CEO of the company.
I was really nervous but I had a chat with one of the VPs here yesterday and it just confirmed this is the right move for me.
@mbersiam First of three, wow - my fingers are getting tired!
@Kyeh i was going for a position once and had to go through 7 interviews… and didn’t get the job.
@mbersiam Oh, wow - that’s harsh!
They must have thought you were good to interview you that many times, though.
@Kyeh yes, I was told I came in second… the other candidate just had a little more wide-ranging experience than me.
@mbersiam
That’s great that they told you.
@Kyeh @mbersiam So, out of all the losers, you were the best?
@Kyeh @macromeh well I have to best at something… even if it’s the best loser
whew… it’s over. Now time to wait for the next interview (or the highly unlikely rejection). sigh I wish the interview process wasn’t so cumbersome sometimes.
@mbersiam How long will it be before an announcement will be made? Any idea on who or how many for competition? Still sending positive vibes your direction. Had to uncross the fingers for a minute but they will be back on duty soon
@speediedelivery thanks so much! I got the scoop that 3 other people applied within the first couple days as well. The process can get long but I know they want to fill it as fast as possible. The current dperson is leaving on June 10th. I’m hoping thst it is filled by end of June, provided they have found the right candidate (i.e. me )
Still hoping!
Are you going for a position that would then have to hire your replacement (aka backfill)?
Ate you a critical resource on a project that needs you specifically after you hypothetically move to the new role?
And despite what anyone says, in large publicly traded corporations, there are DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) initiatives in play which is a fancy way of saying quotas without saying quotas for hiring and promotions. I’m not against DEI. Long overdue, IMO, and I’m on the losing end of it. I’m just saying that it exists whatever you think of it.
Those are factors in larger organizations. Not jinxing it, just saying the reasons they choose someone else sometimes have nothing to do with your ability in doing the new job. It’s just those other factors are more important to HR (and your new boss and your new team) in deciding on the “best” candidate.
I do wish you get it because we all want good things to happen to people that are part of the communities we participate in.
@mike808 without getting extremely long-winded…
They still haven’t filled my position I left in 2020. But the one I left in 2021 is filled. I’m not sure how hard it would be to fill my current one. I think the struggle was the hiring manager (not HR) was being very picky on personality rather than skill.
I realize thst merit no longer drives the hiring process generally speaking in the corporate world, and I only check one box in the DEI spectrum; and I work for a non-profit corp. In my experience, the team is very good at picking skilled and visionary leaders.
@mbersiam
Two things the for-profit corporate world seems to find challenging, so good for you!
That’s cool, I congratulate you.
