Yesterday was the first thing I bought from Meh since I got the app about 2 months ago. Looks like it's gonna be another 2 months till I buy something else. I'm definitely not in the mood for this speaker.
@djanlp I mean, I don't know how bright one has to be for an aluminum Christmas tree, but the flow setting (seen during the intro to today's video) MIGHT work
No Bluetooth? Gotta keep the phone nearby? That Bluesync SPB thingie I bought a couple weeks ago begs to differ! One $30 personal party machine, please.
@PenguinOnTheRox While the description here or on amazon does not mention it - according to an amazon review it does. One additional comment noted it will not take any sd card over 16gb. Don't know how accurate that is.
Amazon review (partial) I'll get the 'gaps' out of the way first so I can focus on what's great about this speaker. While the review sample I received worked flawlessly via the 3.5mm connection, it would not recognize my SanDisk Ultra 32 GB MicroSDHC C10/UHS1 Memory Card. Even taking the advice in Omer G. Wilson's very helpful February 5, 2014 review and placing my MP3 files in the root of the card did not help. A 2GB card I had laying around did work with the files in the root directory of that card. The subtracted star from my rating is because of this and the fact that the documentation does not address the issues nor the maximum capacity of the SD cards and flash drives this speaker accepts.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but, in reality, disco does suck. I know it sounds pretty awesome when you've done Keith Richards-level of cocaine, but disco truly does suck.
@gwrankin I am a key individual in the chain of events that resulted in millions of Winamp users hearing this phrase announced by JJ McKay. How awesome that it's relevant one more time!
@djslack You sure can sir. That's one of about 10 memorable phrases from college. Winamp's visualizations were key in helping my 'E party for Easter' go so well junior year.
@djslack I'd love to ask you a few questions about your involvement with Winamp and some other stuff. Is there a way to send a private message on meh that you know of? If not, do you have a reddit account?
So, I spent the last half of the 90's DJ'ing in college radio at KLPI in Ruston, LA. Our original station was a crumbling trailer in the hood outside campus, and the largest room was the record library.
We used to go pick out random things that looked interesting and listen to them. One day we stumbled upon a Wesley Willis CD and I couldn't get enough.
For those of you that don't know who Wesley Willis was, he was a schizophrenic street singer. All of his songs were basically the same tune played on a keyboard, with hilarious lyrics. Here's the first Wesley Willis Google result. Some are better, some worse, but all his songs are pretty much the same song:
One of the phrases he used was "it really whooped the llama's ass!" This became an exclamation that I and my friends overused on a daily basis in college.
Because of this repeated use, another friend of mine picked up the saying. He had a friend on IRC (Tom Pepper, IIRC) who sent him a project he was working on. It was MacAmp (the predecessor to WinAmp). My buddy checked it out, saw an awesome MP3 player, and replied back to him "That really whips the llama's ass!".
The rest is history. When Winamp came out, it automatically played the JJ McKay MP3:
And there you have one of my brushes with Internet fame. I have a couple more.
Rock over Carrollton. Rock over Terrell. Buc-ee's Beaver has the Fun Stores!
@djslack That's pretty awesome. Just goes to show that the smallest things can seed something way bigger. They were talking about Wesley Willis the other day on The Howard Stern Show. Strange because the last time I heard his name prior to that was in high school before 2000 when I graduated.
Great write-up, and examples within that write-up, but the great granddaddy of all quality music, classical music, is woefully underrepresented--or should I say missing altogether. I wonder how Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 would rock the GOgroove Move L3D Mood Light Speaker.
Seriously people, when you get to be say 50 years old and all the old stuff you used to listen to doesn't do it for you anymore, and all the new stuff the kids are listening to sounds like noise, turn to classical. There's enough to learn and listen to there to hold you in great stead until you cack it.
If aliens came to our planet and all they did was log onto meh.com, they would think all we did on earth is drink from stupid plastic containers and listen to music via cheap-ass speakers.
If you dont think this is good value for 12 bucks then im sure you think a large coffee at Micky D is over priced at a 1 dollar, buy it or dont buy it quit making out like your the AUTHORITY ON THE RITE PRICE JUST STFU NO ONE GIVES A SHIT WHAT YOU THINK ...
@mellowirishgent I went to college for my undergraduate and graduate degrees in pricing estimations; my Ph.D. dissertation was titled, "GoGroove Move L3D Mood Light Speakers: An Analytical Assessment of the Proper Pricing Structure for the US and World Market." In said paper, I provided a value comparison of the speakers to a cup of Dunkin' Donuts Coffee. (I know, I know...it's not McDonald's coffee, so we're a little bit apples/oranges here...but do your best to stay with me). I got an A+ on my paper, by the way. I, therefore, can speak with the utmost of authority when I say, these speakers are WAY FUCKING OVERPRICED!!!! (translation - they are not the rite price). That is all. Good day, sir.
@clarinetbob I knew i could get some ahole like you to spend 20 minutes assembling a diatribe haha ..im sure your girlfriend or boyfriend is just as unimpressed everytime you speak ..
@mellowirishgent What the anger, bro? Check your med dosing. You should probably rethink you username - irish temper...check...mellow...ummmm. Have a great weekend.
use monster headphone splitter > connect to good speakers and this thing > turn volume down on this thing > (or disassemble speakers internally) > Kuroda light show
Did the staff at meh just give up? Why would they think anyone would want this at any price? I would rather spend my money on a whoopee cushion or fake barf.
(The right price is what as many folks will pay for the number of units you have to sell.)
We often joked when "mother" demanded we raise prices, that all we have to do is sell a single $1 billion car and we can go on vacation for the rest of the year.
@capcharlisimo I just pressed the music note button to do the flashing to rhythm mode. But the music really needs to be percussive. And the input volume really matters.
With a little more effort from the designers this could have been truly amazing. But then it wouldn't be meh.
@edwinwillmore Ahh, my problem was the volume/percussive music thing. My music wasn't nearly loud enough to use it correctly -- would've been nicer if I didn't have to turn it up so loud :( Thanks for the help though!
Really impressed with the sound on these ..cant get the lights to actually shut off and just use the speakers says there are 3 modes pulse flash and off the off cycle does not work but awesome deal
@bruno187 That was 30 seconds more than I got from mine. A new battery fixed it. Now the problem is, apparently, that it can't read past 128MB of MP3 files (it locks up). Now that's Meh.
I can't get the remote to work. I can't tell if it's the battery or the remote itself. I'll have to rummage around, but I don't think I've got something with that battery lying around.
@mfladd scratch all of that. That was one song. Remote battery change, works sometimes at best. Main unit I have tried with appropriate 4 gb cards (2), unit keeps skipping (is their a needle in there?). Yah, this unit will be going back to the disappointment of my daughter. I blame @Sohamgeek for this shitty unit.

These are pretty groovy. I wonder how many units they will move
@lichme Unit.....
@bakeyoural
@lichme Ok, I found this by accident. Start my Bee Gees video below and then scroll back to your gif. It's perfect!
@mfladd Haha, if you get it just right, it really works. That's awesome.
Wha????
I'm in the mood for this deal
This deal speaks to me
SDF strikes again. Sort of.
Weirdest. Speaker dock. Yet.
Yesterday was the first thing I bought from Meh since I got the app about 2 months ago. Looks like it's gonna be another 2 months till I buy something else. I'm definitely not in the mood for this speaker.
Daft Punk's "Teachers" really lights me up.
This deal is light years ahead..
i love particle man. did'nt TMBG write the theme song for some mediocre website?
@coleafiory
if you are playing particle man you should also put these two in the playlist
@thismyusername haha i had'nt seen the music video for birdhouse in your soul. thanks for that
It's a bright idea
I might just Bee (Gees) in the mood for this. Actually, my 8 yr old daughter will love this.
Weird question...do you think this would work in lieu of a color wheel for an aluminum Christmas tree? If so, I'm in.
@djanlp I mean, I don't know how bright one has to be for an aluminum Christmas tree, but the flow setting (seen during the intro to today's video) MIGHT work
@Moose Yeah, I saw the flow setting so I considered it. Maybe if the room is completely dark and its the only light source. I don't know.
I want some flashy lights, but I bet the speakers aren't very good.
I visualize this deal speaking volumes ...
Can this do the thing with the lights in time to music with the sound muted? So we can use real speakers at the same time.
@trisk It can do the Flow mode (slowly cycling randomly) without sound, but not the "flash to the beat" mode.
@trisk You could always disconnect or snip the wires to the speakers... Or get fancy and put in a switch.
It's the size of a banana?
@Pamela that would be appealing too
We can strap this on our body and tell everyone who asks us that this really is Big foots mood ring!!
What's good is that the lights are bright so you can see it from far away as you aim.....
Kinda want - bet my daughter would love it but we soooo don't need it. Our squirting-water-n-flashing-to-the-beat Hello Kitty speakers will have to do
Why do we need this when we can simply watch the video for the same entertainment value?
A real "flasher" .."Beats" me how many they will sell..meh , maybe 100.. Does that "sound" about right to you??
Dunno about good taste, but shouldn't this be the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd video for humorous taste?
Calling all Fraternities. Great college welcome gift. Sure to convert your dorm double into a single.
"Speak" up everyone...but only if you are in the "mood" to do so.
As Bugs Bunny would say..What's up "dock"!
Most recent Amazon review at the above link:
@RedOak how can we not buy it after seeing that? From now instead of using "Meh," it's "Lights up but doesn't groove to any beat" for me!
@RedOak Huh, also the most recent review for 'tone-deaf stoner.'
Bought it because vmp. not sorry.
Ring of Fire...

The Dance of Eternity would be a jumble of incoherent lights.
No Bluetooth? Gotta keep the phone nearby? That Bluesync SPB thingie I bought a couple weeks ago begs to differ! One $30 personal party machine, please.
@RDW0409 it's a product mehshup!
In for one gritty-perfumed-pirate
though this guy is cool too:

Is that a slot for an SD card in the front?
@PenguinOnTheRox While the description here or on amazon does not mention it - according to an amazon review it does. One additional comment noted it will not take any sd card over 16gb. Don't know how accurate that is.

@PenguinOnTheRox @mfladd perhaps it was edited after your posts in the description above:
"- Audio input: 3.5mm aux, USB, or SD card
- USB/SD files supported: .MP3, .WAV, .WMA"
@RedOak Nope, that was there. All that work for nothing : [
@RedOak I didn't see it on the front page, and I was already tired.
@Moose Oh well. I tried.
@mfladd I don't know how I overlooked that in the description. But I appreciate the info provided.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but, in reality, disco does suck. I know it sounds pretty awesome when you've done Keith Richards-level of cocaine, but disco truly does suck.
It really whips the llamas ass.
@gwrankin I am a key individual in the chain of events that resulted in millions of Winamp users hearing this phrase announced by JJ McKay. How awesome that it's relevant one more time!
Can I use teasing my llama-whipping story as a shameless ploy to beg for votes on tHumperchick's entry to the photo/caption contest today? Vote for her pic of bear love and all the captions! :)
@djslack You sure can sir. That's one of about 10 memorable phrases from college. Winamp's visualizations were key in helping my 'E party for Easter' go so well junior year.

@djslack I too would love to hear that story. Spill it, man!
@gwrankin @Bingo I'll get on here and tell the story on my lunch break.
@gwrankin Still using winamp 2.7 bay-beeee! Before it became AOL bloatage

Also, thanks for the votes! I think we came up a little short, but it was a good run.
@djslack That's a kickass story, man!
@djslack
@djslack That's pretty awesome. Just goes to show that the smallest things can seed something way bigger.
They were talking about Wesley Willis the other day on The Howard Stern Show. Strange because the last time I heard his name prior to that was in high school before 2000 when I graduated.
I would have purchased this 16 years ago for my college dorm room.

+1 for B-52's. That's Georgia enough.
LSD mood speaker
8:30am Eastern and 650 sold. Impressive. And looking at the map, garage sales in every state will be brightened up over the next 3-10 years!
Own about 10 different brand speakers ..Go Groove is the best one ..dont need this, just to kewl to pass on at this price,
@mellowirishgent 'not sure I'd buy this for the speakers. They don't even attempt to include speaker specs.
@RedOak 3wx2 12 watt peak thats a room filler ..
@mellowirishgent those are amp specs. Very thin amp specs at that. An amplifier, a speaker does not make.
This is make the gluten frees?
The worst
Just bought a second one the speakers alone are worth 3x this price nice xmas gift for someone !!!
If aliens came to our planet and all they did was log onto meh.com, they would think all we did on earth is drink from stupid plastic containers and listen to music via cheap-ass speakers.
@clarinetbob stainless steel containers, too!
Here's the useless user's manual, if anyone is interested.
@brhfl oh look, they make FM radio modulators/transmitters, portable battery packs, and weather stations as well. ;-) . . . and TrueCell batteries.
@mellowirishgent You seem really deeply concerned about these LED speakers! Did you design them or something?
@mellowirishgent I'm pretty sure they don't give a shit what you think about them, so you're even.
@mellowirishgent I went to college for my undergraduate and graduate degrees in pricing estimations; my Ph.D. dissertation was titled, "GoGroove Move L3D Mood Light Speakers: An Analytical Assessment of the Proper Pricing Structure for the US and World Market." @clarinetbob Not the first time he's heard that.
@sammydog01 2nd time but whos counting lol
@clarinetbob What the anger ? is that proper english for someone with a PHD?
@mellowirishgent Just pointing out that you cared what they thought...
@mellowirishgent Thanks for correcting me. You are rite. Bwaaahaaahaaa
Radio Shack in the '80s, oh how I have missed thee.
As the authority on the rite price for these mood lite speakers, I have to say they are over priced at a 12 dollars.
use monster headphone splitter >
connect to good speakers and this thing >

Kuroda light show
Mehest meh ever.
@NoSalt I don't know - those animal fans are pretty good competition for that award.
Did the staff at meh just give up? Why would they think anyone would want this at any price? I would rather spend my money on a whoopee cushion or fake barf.
After 15 years in Product & Pricing with a major global Automotive company (seriously), I'll say the following regarding the 12 buck price.
It is just about perfect for the almost 1,000 buyers as of 2pm Eastern time.
(The right price is what as many folks will pay for the number of units you have to sell.)
We often joked when "mother" demanded we raise prices, that all we have to do is sell a single $1 billion car and we can go on vacation for the rest of the year.
@RedOak Nobody likes a show-off...
@clarinetbob It appeared to need saying.
@RedOak :-)
Ring of Fire with lyrics, sorta. Best video ever of this song!
I bought one. What can I say? I have kids.
catastrophic-choosy-nation
@Lister i have kids too, but i like mushrooms. Mine is on order.
Now that I'm using this thing, it's surprisingly good sounding. Keeping in mind it's a mood light.
When I was a young man and still had access to good drugs I would have married this thing.
But it does a great job this morning putting a face to Ira Glass' voice. He's a colorful guy.
@edwinwillmore I can't seem to get the different lights to work. It has this basic light cycling mode, but that's about all it does. How do you do it?
@capcharlisimo I just pressed the music note button to do the flashing to rhythm mode. But the music really needs to be percussive. And the input volume really matters.
With a little more effort from the designers this could have been truly amazing. But then it wouldn't be meh.

Very glad i bought two of these now with the monster splitter i can do like sweedish house mafia lol ..
@mellowirishgent
the crowds they drew in was incredible, as were their light shows.
@mfladd HAHA YUP
Works pretty well, but the remote control only lasted about 30 seconds...
@bruno187 That was 30 seconds more than I got from mine. A new battery fixed it. Now the problem is, apparently, that it can't read past 128MB of MP3 files (it locks up). Now that's Meh.
@uwacn No, that wasn't it, probably just doesn't like the thumb drive I'm using.
Mine seems to read all of the MP3s, but won't navigate forward through the files sometimes. It's a little unpredictable sometimes.
Download "Sing! Sing! Sing" and play it on here. It really rocks with old swing music.
I can't get the remote to work. I can't tell if it's the battery or the remote itself. I'll have to rummage around, but I don't think I've got something with that battery lying around.
Arrived broken - manufacturer will not respond. @JonT - what's the protocol? SOL?
@brandon write in to meh.com/support and let them know you're having issues. They'll get back to you Monday or Tuesday.
@brandon @Thumperchick
@Thumperchick and you wonder why this stigma follows you around.......
@mfladd I don't wonder.
Main unit work nicely, remote doesn't. Going to try changing the battery on it. (will let people know, not that anyone cares, but I still will)
@mfladd scratch all of that. That was one song. Remote battery change, works sometimes at best. Main unit I have tried with appropriate 4 gb cards (2), unit keeps skipping (is their a needle in there?). Yah, this unit will be going back to the disappointment of my daughter.
