We lost one to kidney disease on Sept 1. Our little tripod kitty.

On Sept 13, a Wednesday, we took one (our FIV kitty) in for a runny nose (runny on the right side). The following Monday, the right side of his head had swollen. He was given an allergy shot. That Thursday, he went blind. He was put on high blood pressure meds. The following Monday, he died. Well, we had him put to sleep, he was crashing badly, started seizing on the examining table at the vet’s. We already knew what the outcome would be that morning, I just wish it had been a little less traumatic.

We’re thinking he had a brain tumor.

Then last weekend, our oldest kitty’s belly got really swollen and she had some nasty gas and poo. It didn’t go down. We took her in yesterday. She had a tumor by her liver. Kindest thing to do was say goodbye.

Just an all around bad deal.

@lisaviolet Yeah that so sucks. I have 3 that all are 16.5 with multiple medical problems. Likely they will all go close together too. Way to hard when that happens. Hope your remaining cats are cuddling with you.

@lisaviolet so sorry for your unbelievable loss of your three precious cats - I don’t have cats per se but I have fed stray cats and they now stay close around my home. I have grown attached to these feral cats and some even now let me pet them since I have been feeding them for such a long time. I had managed to catch and have several of the cats fixed (2 males and two females) before I released them back outside.

Wish I could take all these cats in but my dogs hate cats and raise a ruckus whenever they see me feeding them outside (my dogs will watch me through the front storm door feeding the cats). I have grown attached to them all now and was sad when one got run over by a car speeding down my street.

Again, I am so sorry for your triple tragedy… losing one beloved pet then eventually three so close together is horrendous and unfathomable to me.

@lisaviolet I agree with your fuck cancer comment. Cuts too many lives short - animal and human. I hope that these two are the last kitties of yours that gets cancer. Your kitty with kidney failure - it seems that is pretty common too in cats, which is unfortunate.

I have a 16 year old with stage 2 failure (and diabetes in remission for the moment, and hyperthyroid). I am holding my breath with him.

Many years ago I had a sweet little kitty die of the cancer that is caused by the vaccinations (that is why they switched to the back leg - you amputate and they are cured, she had it in the nape of her neck - if only I had known and the vet had known why to give the shots in the rear leg) when she was 13. She got it at about 7 or 8 (slow growing kind)…

I wish all our animals would just die of old age and not due to horrible diseases.

We’ve had a few cancer deaths here. Lung, intestinal, mouth (I think that’s the most prevalent)…the lung cancer is especially scary because one day, they just can’t draw a breath.

I don’t know how many cats we’ve had over the years, I suppose I could do a count. It’s been a lot. (Rescues or cats that had no place to go.) But since 1994, all cats have been lost to health problems, none to cars, dogs, people, or coyotes. We give them the best life we can, better than it would have been and that’s what we remind ourselves. Only one cat passed away here at home. The rest were euthanized. The youngest was eight, the oldest was twenty-three.

They have food, clean water, a yard to roam (with a modified fence to keep them in) and vet care. And love. Lots of love.

We’re not getting anymore. At least, no young cats. Should a senior be in dire need of a place to live with the option being death, we’ll most likely take the kitty in.

At our most, we had thirty-eight. Yep, you read that right. Now, we have eighteen. That’s about how many we had when I first came on line in August 1996.

One day, we may have none. And that’s okay. Because I don’t want there to be a problem finding a home for a cat when we pass. We have no kids, his family isn’t cat friendly like we are. I don’t trust them. My friends would step up, but they’re not local.

So, yes, it’s hard. It’s what we chose, but that doesn’t make it any easier.

Sorry this is so long. Just feeling kind of melancholy about the whole thing, I guess.

It is not cancer, it won’t kill me as long as I take about ten pills and some other stuff every day, and now I fit into my skinny jeans. The heart issue was a dud, she’s home and full of herself. The hospice patient is going to recover, but it’ll take awhile. I guess that’s a triple unblame for the goat.

Here’s a disease we’ve never had here.

Cholangitis.

The good thing is her liver values are good and her kidney values are good. They’re keeping her until at least Monday. Hopefully, she’ll be doing much better by then and be able to come home. If she’s not showing enough progress, they want to do an ultrasound.

@OldCatLady from my experience… A lot of people bitch that new water heaters don’t last like the old ones. Might be worth just trying the flushing trick. I wouldn’t go crazy replacing the valve or anything.

@OldCatLady even if the heater “dies” the elements and thermostats are usually the problem. Most people don’t replace them unless they are rusting and leaking.

@RiotDemon Just for info- after I saw the prices of new ones, I got someone to clear the clog. Coat hanger was too big, so he used baling wire, which eventually, with persistence, worked. I was awestruck at the amount of crud that poured out Yay! Thanks for the advice

Spent over an hour talking to CS to try fixing the issue.

Created a recovery USB.
Tried system restore, but it didn’t help…

Trying something else right now, though it may not help.

If it doesn’t, then I’ll be trying one more thing.

If it wasn’t for a certain file not being backed up to anywhere else, I’d do a fresh reinstallation.

Which is odd, because I could honestly just easily recreate the file.

While typing this, the system repair failed…

Saw this earlier, but I only started it a little while ago due to lack of pleasing alternative options.

Oh well, at least it will run while I do it stuff.

Cancelled it, tried other stuff, something eventually worked.

Got to login screen, but then something I tried earlier came up.

So… Things are working, though I have to undo them…
