@Al_Coholic Yeah if you squeeze it real hard. Bananas, grapes, and clementines are all pretty travel-friendly. Apple slices are a little wet but not bad.
@cpierce Yeah I guess I hadn’t thought of grapes. I guess I was thinking about stuff like oranges and plums and peaches. I always have to wash my hands after eating bananas too because they feel weird, and I have to peel off those gross stringy things to be able to enjoy it, and that gets banana mush all over.
When we were kids my favorite part of the 6 hour car trip to our grandmom’s (most holidays and for a couple weeks each summer) was my Mom always did a “grocery store meal” where we stopped about 2 hours into the trip and got to get “whatever” (within reason) we wanted like goldfish crackers and a candy bar and drink and … Then we’d munch those for the rest of the trip, with a rest stop around hour 4. My favorite was a pack of Laughing Cow cheese wedges. I didn’t even know what kind of cheese it was, I just loved the silky creaminess to counter the chips or other things.
Now my favorite is yogurt covered raisins, but it’s a lot of calories, so I try not to have them often.
@looseneck Plus, if you’re Harry in the first scene of When Harry Met Sally, you can spit the seeds against the rolled-up window in order to cleverly illustrate how gross and careless you are in your youth.
Early flights I will pretty often have a bagel and coffee. Road trips, fast food, or vending machine garbage. A poptart can allow you to survive for several hours in the morning, in a desperation scenario.
i don’t really “travel” but on days where i don’t have a chance to eat anything before picking my partner up from work i’ll grab something extra at the grocery store to eat in the car. watermelon chunks are a favorite if the season is right, or grapes, or justin’s dark chocolate peanut butter cups.
if i’m drunk after a club, string cheese or potato salad or tacquitos.
when i was little we used to drive about six hours for a family reunion each year and my gramma would make finger sandwiches- chicken salad was my fave.
@JaredParker Yeah, wasabi peas are awesome. Tried soy wasabi almonds one time because a co-worker had bought a can and decided they were gross and didn’t want them anymore, and those were really good too. Maybe meh should sell those.
@katylava ummm from a reliable source? That doesn’t sound like something that would be true. Either way, I’ve never had any issues, and I’ve eaten a LOT.
Boston baked beans, jelly beans, candy corn, and coated licorice pieces (think good-n-plenty). It’s the right mix of sweet, salty, crunchy, and chewy all at once.
I don’t travel a lot but I do go on long bike rides. I have a favorite 60 mile ride where at the half way point I’ll soak my feet in the river and eat trail mix with travel box of wine, usually Bandit.
buncha jerks
Protein bars. Easy to bring, sorta tasty, not the worst thing for you.
/giphy granola bar hottie
We always seem to wind up buying a big variety pack of muffins when we hit the road. Blueberry, poppyseed, and chocolate.
I love sunflower seeds.
Fruit
Hormel pepperoni and salami snack trays with crackers for family trips. We have been buying them for years.
Wasabi all the things!
Dude, I am not at all consist with snacks. I will grab whatever sounds good at the moment.
/giphy consist
@simplersimon Yeah, same for me. Same with what I decide to have for any given meal.
Apples and cheese.
Combos. Have only ever eaten them in a car.
@LemonTheCat ditto. I buy them every road trip.
Whatever someone else brought because I’m utterly incapable of planning ahead
Ever heard of chapulines?
Yeah, not those. But I like something that’s not gonna leave dust on my fingers, like mixed nuts or some fresh fruit.
@cpierce Nope.
And: Eewwwww!
@cpierce But doesn’t fresh fruit leave juice on your fingers?
@Al_Coholic Yeah if you squeeze it real hard. Bananas, grapes, and clementines are all pretty travel-friendly. Apple slices are a little wet but not bad.

Grapes. They have enough water so I don’t need a drink, so it’s two for one snack.

I clicked “Other” so I could sing the praises of Pizza-Flavored Combos, but now all I can think about is wasabi peas. Mmmmmm, wasabi peas…
@JaredParker Yeah, wasabi peas are awesome. Tried soy wasabi almonds one time because a co-worker had bought a can and decided they were gross and didn’t want them anymore, and those were really good too. Maybe meh should sell those.
@JaredParker I love pizza combos. Not as big of a fan of pizza pretzel. That seems like it’s the only one I can find though.
Usually a selection of protein bars, trail mix, and Swedish fish.
I think hot cheetos also deserve an honorable mention in the snack category. Maybe not great for most kinds of travel, but they are just so good…
@Al_Coholic careful with those, I heard they can cause stomach bleeding.
@katylava ummm from a reliable source? That doesn’t sound like something that would be true. Either way, I’ve never had any issues, and I’ve eaten a LOT.
@Al_Coholic …yet.
j/k of course it wasn’t a reliable source.
@katylava Whew!

Inadvertent vote and interesting coincidence, someone in my area on Nextdoor posted this just yesterday:
I don’t travel a lot but I do go on long bike rides. I have a favorite 60 mile ride where at the half way point I’ll soak my feet in the river and eat trail mix with travel box of wine, usually Bandit.
All of the above. I’m actually on a trip as we speak and I have all of them with me.
