With the way the airlines are now- screw the flight attendants. If my husband wants to over fill his carry on and clog up the aisle to cram it in the overhead bin then your FUL on skippy he will.
With that said - he just did that. Left yesterday for a week in California with my son to visit family and friends and the cost to check one bag was outrageous. So his soft sided backpack took some effort but he got it in there. A hard, and apparently heavier, carry on wouldn’t have worked. Not ashamed to say that this Mama bear cried when Papa bear and my Baby bear left for their trip.
@WTFsunshine Y’know, I like you and all but for those willing to suck it up and pay the baggage fee, I’d like to speak for all of us and say that we kind of hate your husband. Do you have any idea how annoying it is when I can’t even find room to put my jacket in an overhead because people are too cheap/impatient to check their bags? What’s even worse is those who try to game the system by bringing a bag that’s too large for the overhead in order to get them to check it for free. Those people should be charged double baggage fees.
@cinoclav I like you too and all. To all the people who starred his reply: He did check his luggage and I was writing it to be silly against Meh’s write up. His carry on was only overstuffed because I make snack bags for when my parents (who go on cruises often) and every couple of years when my own family goes to Cali to visit. He took the snack bags out (since a lot of airlines don’t offer meals anymore) before he put his backpack up in the bin. I was also only trying to state that with a hard sided carry on it would be difficult to get it up into a bin because it would not conform to allow room for other people to put items up in the bin as well and they stated that it was heavy. I can no longer fly with them because with airlines cramming more seats in their planes and with less leg room they are not friendly to people with disabilities. I am in a wheelchair now and they cannot accommodate me. Their solution for people in a wheelchair is laughable/pathetic. Prior to the wheelchair, when I was able to get around using a walker and/or crutches, I tried to fly out with them to visit and even those caused issues on the plane. I am 5’8" and 102lbs- so my size in an airplane is not an issue- what I need to get by apparently was/is an issue.
@WTFsunshine So now it’s about you and your wheelchair? What does that have to do with anything? If his carry-on is overstuffed, he is being selfish and people kinda hate people like that on airplanes.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@therealjrn You know what- I was going to type the reply and let it go. But apparently you skimmed what I typed and took out what you wanted from it. When my husband put the bag up it was no longer overstuffed because he took out the two items that made it bulky so he could be considerate to all the other people trying to find a place to put their items into the overhead bins. The “me being in a wheelchair” part was added because I also try being considerate to all of the other people on planes. They can no longer deal with extra bulky items such as my wheelchair and it causes an issue with people trying to get around me to get to their seats. The airlines have put more seats in to fly more people to make up for fuel costs and get more money per trip. If you have a SO do you enjoy walking hand-in-hand with them? Maybe sometimes walk with your arms around each other? How about the luxury of being able to stand beside each other during outings or even being at the same level to kiss? Must be nice to take a trip or vacation with them without putting undue strain on others. I’m assuming you take a shower so it must be nice to be standing up to take one or not have to harness your SO to yourself in order for them to get one. If you have kids it must be nice to drive them places, take them to their multiple sporting events and being able to stay and watch because the heat doesn’t effect you and you won’t feel embarrass for them if you have a seizure while there. Or even just driving yourself to where you would like to go or go to a department store and go into the changing room to try things on. How about the fact that my unselfish husband works 24 hours on duty as a paramedic/firefighter taking care of everyone else and then has to come home and take care of me, our son, all of the household chores that I am unable to do anymore, do the grocery shopping, taking me to my doctor appointments and still try to maybe carve out just a little well deserved time for himself. I don’t, and won’t, put up with people saying they hate my husband or call him selfish. He is anything but that. I also had a life, before my disability robbed me from it, of helping others. I was a deputy sheriff and then a 911 operator taking calls and dispatching police, fire and paramedics. I also worked at the helpline and suicide hotlines. So we both worked jobs that I was, and he still is, dedicated to helping other people. Don’t attack what I type when I cannot express that it was sarcasm and poking fun at the write up. Don’t just skim through an explanation. And definitely DON’T attack my husband, or me, when you are ignorant of the circumstances.
@WTFsunshine I get it, you’re a saint, a public servant and you deserve special consideration.
You’re upset, I’m sorry about that and I’m sorry people hate people with overstuffed luggage in the overhead bins.
You started this with: "If my husband wants to over fill his carry on and clog up the aisle to cram it in the overhead bin then your FUL on skippy he will."

They aren’t going to last 20+ years like 2-wheel models… or at least have a chance of doing so. Those fragile, over-leveraged spinner wheels are just begging to collapse.
Has become a real challenge to find solid 2-wheel checkable size luggage at a reasonable price. Only reliable way to find it seems to be the hybrid 2-wheel/duffel style.
Can’t wait for the spinner fad to die once enough folks have learned this the painful way in the middle of a trip.
Has become a real challenge to find solid 2-wheel checkable size luggage at a reasonable price.
@RedOak As long as you’re not picky about it matching, check your local thrift stores. My most expensive piece was $10, and that was because it was unused.
@narfcake We’ve also had some luck at Estate Sales - at least we know a bit more about the previous owners via their home.
But the above frustration was due to needing just the right size on a tight time line for our kids to do an England trip… so pre-owned was not an option.
@cinoclav Never really understood the battery charger built into things (unless those things are power sources themselves, like a car or whatevers)… Seems like a standalone battery charger has all the same perks with none of the inefficiencies. I have this opinion because I once attached a portable one to a backpack and I thought I had done something pretty incredible, but over the few following minutes I realized that I’m really stupid.
@RedOak if you look you can still find the two wheel samsonite f’lite hard side bags. they also now have the spinner type but thankfully the old school model can be found online. Match it with a rainbow bag strap and you’re gonna be mistaken for a non-tipping, no-nonsense European tourist everywhere you go!
@westownsend I don’t get the purpose of it either. When traveling I always bring a portable charger. I do think the bag is pretty cool though with the ability to track it.
FYI, I purchased a FUL bag here a while back and tried to put in a warranty claim. Its been a well over a month since I have heard anything about it. They have been very nice when they respond, just cant get them to respond or make any moves on helping me out.
Just to be clear, this is a FUL complaint, not a complaint for meh. We all know that meh is incredible with their CS.
@hchavers What good is a TSA lock? It simply tells the nefarious observer there is something of value inside so they hoist the entire suitcase rather than rummaging thru it. …and those locks aren’t much better than a twisted coat hanger anyway.
@RedOak Any deterrent is helpful. At least if you use a TSA lock there’s a better chance they’ll use their key to open it instead of cutting off your lock.
@RedOak The random person at the airport who is more likely to open a bag that doesn’t have a lock on it. Like @medz said, maids or other hotel staff. The only difference between a TSA lock and any other lock is that TSA can open it without breaking it. Use a lock, any lock. Also, stick a ‘Beware of Dog’ sign in an obvious place on your house. Deterrents DO work to some degree.
@cinoclav Not effective, even counter effective IMHO. To the casual drive person by who has enought privacy to rummage, they can also snatch the entire bag that has a lock that outwardly protects something valuable.
For hotel room privacy, if I’m out for dinner and have to leave something like a laptop or tablet in the room, the do not disturb sign on the door + TV left on is more effective.
Otherwise, valuables shouldn’t be left in the room.
I used to love Meh, but I feel like they consistently misrepresent the “current market price” of items they sell. I had posted in these forums a few times when I’d find errors/misrepresentations, and Meh never did anything about it.
Today they’re showing the “list” price as $400, and the Amazon price as $229. Well, that’s not untrue–but the current retail price from the manufacturer at ful is actually $300, and there’s a 30% coupon making it $210, which is cheaper than the Amazon price.
Again (as I’ve said in other posts like this), I’m not saying Meh isn’t offering a deal. But it’s one thing to tell people “normally this costs $500, but we’re selling it for $200”, and to tell people “normally this thing costs $230, but we’re selling it for $200”. I think it’s shady and deceptive of Meh to frequently post misleading “comparison” prices. Yes, I know people have the burden of doing their own research (as I did, which took me ~45 seconds), but one of the things I liked about Meh in the beginning was that they seemed like they were trying to “shoot straight”, like they were one of us, not quite so evil-corporate-lying-greedy-etc. Anyway, I didn’t mean to rant–sorry for the wall of text–but in case anyone from Meh reads this and cares, it’s practices like this (that are so easy to fix) that made me cancel my VIP membership.
For those of you who were looking for a deal like this, awesome–congrats! Just make sure you do your due diligence before you buy from Meh, and don’t rely on their “comparison” pricing; do your own research.
@somuchdanger The reality is our community will sometimes find better deals than we found to comp to. But that’s a big reason we’ve got this forum - it’s great for people to hunt down the best possible alternative. A lot of the time, as in this case, it still shows that we’ve got the cheapest thing, even if it’s not as much cheaper as we initially posted.
(When we were hunting down the cheapest price, I didn’t see the coupon code off the manufacturer site, mostly because it’s sadly rare for the manufacturer to be the cheapest place to buy something, even though you’d think it’d be easiest for them to beat everyone’s price.)
It’s hard for me to think someone decides not to buy because they’re saving $83 instead of $101, but it’s great for them to get all the info in our community.
As an aside, often when we link to Amazon it’s partly because they’ve got reviews that are at least as helpful as a price comp. That’s not the case today, though, since this luggage doesn’t have any reviews over there.

@RedOak Any deterrent is helpful. At least if you use a TSA lock there’s a better chance they’ll use their key to open it instead of cutting off your lock.
@cinoclav who would it be deterring?
@RedOak hotel maids
@medz A TSA lock would the last lock I’d rely on for that purpose.
If a maid is willing to steal something from within your suitcase, you don’t think they’re willing to steal the entire suitcase?
A thin cable Kensington-laptop style lock wrapped around furniture would better accomplish that security.
TSA locks are just like the TSA itself - faux security and for appearances only.
@RedOak The random person at the airport who is more likely to open a bag that doesn’t have a lock on it. Like @medz said, maids or other hotel staff.
