FTC settlement against Office Depot/OfficeMax computer check service
13Hi, not sure if anyone here ever took advantage of Office Depot / OfficeMax’s computer checkup service between 2009 & 2016, but they’ve been fined because the program was rigged to suggest repairs solely on whether or not one or more boxes were checked during the survey.

During at least part of this timeframe, the companies advertised a “free computer checkup”, which was running this program and answering the survey based on what the customer told them. If any boxes were checked, the software would then recommend a service package.
It does seem like you’ll be able to get a refund of money you paid for those services from the settlement funds, but it’s not clear when or how that would happen.
