I have friends who are going to watch the Oscars. The Oscars. Why? The people who run the Academy have a garbage track record. They don’t actually like movies. They like themselves, and they like big parties.
Normal people should not sit around and watch lame-o Hollywood people backslap each other.
I’m going to the pre-func, then leaving noisily once the juggernaut starts rolling.
I did a search for “from the producers of” and mostly got results for the movie “The Producers.” I guess you can’t search for exact phrases anymore? Anyway, there were a few relevant results, but mostly for TV shows. One was some TV show from the producers of Downton Abbey, and that one was helpful because I now know to avoid that particular show.

@eonfifty I really enjoyed “The Producers”, going to have to put it on my watch list and see if again. In today’s political climate, the song “Springtime for Hitler” will have a new nuance .
Some of the teaser trailers for Alita: Battle Angel say “from the makers of Avatar”. When I heard that quote, my interest in seeing the film greatly diminished. So I guess in that regards, the suggestion that it actually means something is actually “working” on me.
It’s interesting to me, a fascinating commentary on where we are now. Once upon a time we were supposed to want to see a movie because of the big stars in it; but then we had big stars appearing in lousy movies. Then there was “auteur theory,” i.e. ‘watch the movie because the director is important’ - that disappeared after they started releasing ‘director’s cuts’ of previously successful films. Now there’s this pitch, ‘these guys made the right decision backing a previous blockbuster, so you can trust their judgement with YOUR money.’ There’s SOMETHING to be said for the producer’s judgement, but I’m waiting for them to start marketing movies based on who the film’s editor is.
I would say, “Guess you wouldn’t buy stock based on the recommendation of someone who’d bought stock before and made out gangbusters,” but then I remembered that Warren Buffet recently bought a ton of Apple stock, and it tanked like three tanking things shortly thereafter.
I’m with you. Couldn’t care less who produced a given movie or what studio it’s from. I do care more about those on the screen.

But…maybe…it bothers me more than it should?
For the longest time I got producer and director confused because it was so prominent on movie advertising.
