@thismyusername Well, that’s what I meant. I vacuum sealed them, then ironed them to give them that crisp laminated feature.
And hey! They are vacuum sealing a Meh Man insert!
Crazy idea … take today’s boring non-Fuku (or tomorrow’s, or the next day’s), and sell it at the regular price, or for $5 extra it get it in the red bag.
@mike808 Oddly enough, not illegal. Well, in your case it would be considered harassment, but if you mailed your 12 lbs of literal crap to, say, your “friend” as a prank – not illegal.
@sammydog01 I the RIVAL 3-STEP VACUUM SEALER sold from meh. I have issues with the juices trying to escape the bag. My workaround is to freeze the meat and then seal. What would the process be to seal juicy meat with this sealer?
@caffeine_dude I partially freeze it too, although yesterday some juice leaked out and I discovered the little sucking tray is removable for cleaning. So I wouldn’t seal anything really juicy but if a bit leaks out it’s not a disaster. I also double seal the ends of the bags.
Genuinely in awe. Meh staff spent years posting multiple positive reviews using stolen accounts to various subreddits just for this one big day to sell all of the remaining stock of refurb FoodSaver sealers.
I bought one last time, and then my super great wife got me a sous vide cooker for my birthday last week, and boy have I made some good-ass food since.
@Moose I did thr same thing, except the other way around. Makes the great-ass food you’ve been cooking for a while even better. Instead of having to freeze all that food until your wife gives up on you figuring it out and buys the damned thing in frustration. Which one did you get? I have the Anova One (1st gen) and it makes stupid simple perfect rib eyes and sirloins every time. No more ziplocs for me!
I clicked over from Reddit to see what was for sale. Read the description. Chuckled. Maybe I should submit this to /r/mildlyinteresting or /r/coolstorybro.
@sparkyfarad I do (for one). I know I can live for well over a month without even worrying. If things went really bad, I’d probably be able to live for at least three months if I started rationing early enough.
I dont’ really expect this any time soon, but I like saving money by buying in bulk.
Got this sealer last time meh sold it. Am very happy with it. Had I not already purchased a bunch of extra bags, I’d probably be going for more now with the two for one sale at Foodsaver.com
I just posted about the sale a couple of days ago. This is convenient for people buying a unit. Buy all the bags, bag everything!
As for the unit. It’s fine. Does what it’s supposed to. They have some new fancy unit that’s $200 and holds the rolls in the base… But that’s just too much money for me. If I packaged a bunch of things every day, maybe it would be with it.
@RiotDemon
The big fancy one sucks!! Is big and heavy and yes holds a roll I don’t use. Th automatic closing and opening up mechanism gave up like a cheap inkjet printer and I gave it away. This manual version is excellent. Also, bought bags from vacuumbagsunlimited .net or something, waaaaay cheaper. Get an assortment of pre made bags, makes life easier.
@RiotDemon saw the new one (looks like a FM5460 didn’t verify model number) and the one its replacing (V4825 the kind I have ) both at sams for 149ish. If they act like they do every year around the holidays the new one will drop to 119 and the old one will likely drop to 99 (or hold at 119).
The v4825 hasn’t failed me yet, it gets moderate use (at least 5 times a week). I can’t speak for the new one… the model at the store was a display fake (or glued shut), no idea if it has the same auto mechanism as the V4825.
If you need the deli containers, Target seems to be clearing them out. They are 50% off (or more) at the stores around me. (5 bucks for 2)
You can check prices and stock around you here: Deli Containers
I have a different model but this one is for my sil. It vacuum seals partially filled wine bottles if you get the cork attachment, and I have a cap that enables me to seal mason jars. Don’t get that much in bulk, but I can buy dried pet food in bulk and seal it in smaller packets so it doesn’t go stale. It’s great for those boxes of crackers you only buy for parties at your house and inevitably yield leftovers. Plus no more freezer burn! You can freeze cubes of freshly-squeezed lemon and lime juice, cubes of herbs mixed with oil… I guess I do get some stuff in bulk.
You can also use it to seal existing bags, like bagged almonds. And if you’re clever, you can reseal and reuse the foodsaver bags, so that’s not much of an expense.
@givemeyoursoul My BF’s mom gave me my machine. They also gave me tons of plastic bag rolls. Considering my frugality, I’ll never need bags again. But thanks for the tip in case I or someone else needs more!
25 minutes after these go live as an offer, Idaho’s lit up like a Walmart holiday section on the sales map.
Preppers? Sous vide fanatics? “We can’t afford laminators but let’s try this” office workers? Methheads? Or do the moose, bear, and wolf populations have Meh accounts and kinky tastes?
@ELUNO Thanks for the ProTip!
The last time I got a bag of chips, it said it had 45 servings. Even if I ate a serving every day, that bag of chips will last at least a month and a half, right?
@RiotDemon We made zucchini bread and saved the second loaf. I really wish I had thought about hitting the seal button before it mashed them down. Next time I will try that, or just freeze them first, then vacuum seal.
@RiotDemon So this model can vacuum and seal on command? On mine I do not have this option so I press really hard on the lid hoping to get enough pressure to complete the seal and start the auto vacuum.
@caffeine_dude This has a vac/seal and seal buttons. You use the vac/seal and when you see it has sucked enough air out and is about to force crush your delicious bread, you manually hit the seal button to stop the vacuum and start the sealing.
@ELUNO I bought this last time; very happy with it. The chip bag sealing was a huge selling point.
But my wife HATES leaving things out on the counter, so the foodsaver gets tucked away in the pantry after every use. So to seal the bags, I need to take the damn thing out. Too much effort. But we refuse to use chip clips now because we have the foodsaver.
So now all our chips go stale because the bags sit folded over and unbound. Or we eat them faster…
@caffeine_dude We were talking about that on another thread. Higher end models include an option for “wet” sealing.
For these ones, you can put a paper towel just before the sealing area, so that it can absorb the juices so it doesn’t interfere with the sealing. They are selling bags with something like this already in place. Another workaround is to put the steak in the bag in the freezer for a little while, in order to freeze the juices a little bit, and then seal it.
I bought one of these the last time around and it came completely dead, plus had a broken latch. Meh referred me to FoodSaver (Sunbeam), who made me send the broken unit back to them at my expense ($20 USPS).
I suppose $42 isn’t terrible once I (hopefully) have a working one, but just be forewarned…
@Charliethedog N.B., be careful what you choose. NeatReceipts has withdrawn the driver for older versions of their sheet fed scanner. That’s the second time this WEEK that I have found out one of my devices was bricked by deliberate vendor action.
Love this thing. Bought it that last two times. The first one is still going strong. Bought the second as a spare. Tempted to buy a third as a double spare at this price.
Dear Meh,
Party at my house on Saturday. There’s a sous vide tri tip and ribs and a whole strip loin in the smoker. No need to bring an appetizer to pass, just bring a fuku or 2 that I keep getting shut out on. You have the address. Party starts at 3. This is a previous sous vide tri tip just to make you feel like I do when you sell out of something.
I will never buy another refurb from meh. I bought one of these vacuum sealers last time, it does not work…at all. Does not even turn on. Meh won’t refund, and it’s taken two weeks and several emails to get FoodSaver to agree to replace it. And I have to pay to mail it in to get it replaced, so I have to throw more money after it. Great for all of you who got one that works, but since mediocre doesn’t support what they sell, I just basically set my money on fire. Buyer beware - you will not be supported.
@xweb you make a fair point to consider with meh purchases (and woot! purchases for that matter)… is the price low enough to also take a hit for the postage for warranty service, cause as you know many times there is a reason it’s here at a low price
you’ll find when the warranty is ‘mediocre corp’ themselves they resolve things much faster (only have to deal with them), so that is another factor to consider when buying from them.
The emergency seal kits for my classic Land-Rover are all vacuum sealed—a feature you appreciate when they float out of the under seat tool locker and come bobbing to the surface… Just sayin’
Got this last time. Works great. The advice from the posters here was helpful for those that never used one. BTW, don’t do hamburger rolls, even frozen they started to become prunes. Lol
I have the fancy one, and it’s actually so automated that it can’t do most of the stuff I bought it for. Plus, it uses more plastic than it needs to because the clamp sensor is so far inside the machine. I am much happier with the mediocre version. The big one is packed up and waiting to go back to Costco.
Been wanting one for a while since nothing is more depressing than planning a dinner w/ frozen meat only to find it freezer-burned (then getting Jack-In-the-Box instead).
/giphy optimal-lightening-stingray
OMG… finally got around to trying steak sous-vide. Used this cooker and it turned out AMAZING. Will definitely add this to my list of favorite ways to prepare steak!

@haydesigner
From a bag of crap to a crap bag sealer.
From fuko to something that sucks…
Already laminated my coupons. No thanks meh.
@ELUNO you can vacuum seal those laminated coupons though…
@thismyusername Well, that’s what I meant. I vacuum sealed them, then ironed them to give them that crisp laminated feature.
And hey! They are vacuum sealing a Meh Man insert!
Crazy idea … take today’s boring non-Fuku (or tomorrow’s, or the next day’s), and sell it at the regular price, or for $5 extra it get it in the red bag.
$22 for food sealer.
$27 for pretend fuku
I just sealed up twelve pounds of ground beef with this thing yesterday. I love it.
@sammydog01 Hey, cool story, bro.
I just sealed up 12 lbs of crap yesterday and mailed it to the ex.
She will love it.
@caffeine_dude the same thing. Freeze partially. Or some people seal in a piece of paper towel to catch the juices according to the Foodsaver website.
@caffeine_dude Foodsaver also makes barrier block bags that are made for that application
@caffeine_dude I partially freeze it too, although yesterday some juice leaked out and I discovered the little sucking tray is removable for cleaning. So I wouldn’t seal anything really juicy but if a bit leaks out it’s not a disaster. I also double seal the ends of the bags.
That’s a weird looking printer.
Man, I wish I had known about vacuum sealing bathbombs. Just threw out half of a Lush gift set that had gone bad
Did Jeffrey Dahmer use these? I mean, did he endorse these??
Probably not an acceptable substitute for a laminator, especially if you can’t find your iron because it’s been packed up for moving.
@djslack Now don’t start that again
@djslack Try leaving it out on a really sunny day?
@djslack Try some gift basket shrink wrap from the craft store and a hair dryer.
Genuinely in awe. Meh staff spent years posting multiple positive reviews using stolen accounts to various subreddits just for this one big day to sell all of the remaining stock of refurb FoodSaver sealers.
Color me impressed.
I bought one last time, and then my super great wife got me a sous vide cooker for my birthday last week, and boy have I made some good-ass food since.
@Moose Oh man, great combination!
@mike808 I got the Anova Wifi. The connection is iffy (I haven’t spent much time troubleshooting it) but the product itself is top notch.
@Moose have you experienced the perfect steaks time after time???
Just made a perfect medium rare ribeye using this machine and a ghetto sous vide set up (crockpot/temp controller) 2 days ago. Best steak ever!

I clicked over from Reddit to see what was for sale. Read the description. Chuckled. Maybe I should submit this to /r/mildlyinteresting or /r/coolstorybro.
Forced to get a second one - friend/neighbor still has the one sold last time.
/giphy actually slim jackal
Who’s got that much much food…let alone a freezer?
@sparkyfarad I do (for one). I know I can live for well over a month without even worrying. If things went really bad, I’d probably be able to live for at least three months if I started rationing early enough.
I dont’ really expect this any time soon, but I like saving money by buying in bulk.
@sparkyfarad I have a chest freezer in my garage. I use it when the grocery store has BOGO free packages of meat.
@sparkyfarad I buy a package of gorgeous steaks from Costco, cut them in half, seal them, and freeze them.
Got this sealer last time meh sold it. Am very happy with it. Had I not already purchased a bunch of extra bags, I’d probably be going for more now with the two for one sale at Foodsaver.com
irony points for my order number:
/giphy acrid-brave-taste
@accumulator Hey, I got the same image on my order!
/ giphy brown-chicken-brown-cow
@mike808 well, that’s google for you…always an agenda somewhere
@sparkyfarad or the ghost in the google machine has learned to recognize meh order numbers and make them relevant to each other
Wow, this was much easier to order than the Fukobukuro
Iirc it was a marijuana edition vacuum sealer that brought me to meh not to long ago.
@_Page yep, same. Great product.

@captainchris13 Thanks for dropping a line on that website. I’ll definitely try them out when I need bags next time.
I’ll post this again:
If you need the deli containers, Target seems to be clearing them out. They are 50% off (or more) at the stores around me. (5 bucks for 2)
You can check prices and stock around you here:
Deli Containers
@ELUNO I have the deli containers; they don’t hold a seal. That may be why Target is getting rid of them.
@DrGaellon I have 5 of them and I haven’t had issues with either of them. Just make sure you don’t over fill it…
I’ve had this model for over a year, and it works well. I don’t use it a lot.
I buy cheap third party bags because I’m no good at straight cuts on rolls.
So there.
@lorelski great idea about reusing the bags if they have only been in the freezer
@lorelski I buy the rolls on ebay for pennies instead of the branded bags. Make and reuse your own bags! Really reduces the running cost.
@givemeyoursoul My BF’s mom gave me my machine. They also gave me tons of plastic bag rolls. Considering my frugality, I’ll never need bags again. But thanks for the tip in case I or someone else needs more!
@givemeyoursoul and check amazon as well. Last time I bought some their prices were better…
WTF, over?
@f00l french friers
Bonus tip!
You can seal those chip bags again!
@ELUNO save the bags and the bags will save you money
@sparkyfarad Oh, I must clarify. It will seal them, but not vacuum seal them. Otherwise, yes, that would have been a great idea.
@ELUNO Thanks for the ProTip!
The last time I got a bag of chips, it said it had 45 servings. Even if I ate a serving every day, that bag of chips will last at least a month and a half, right?
@ELUNO thanks
@mike808 yes, but you’ll become skinny
@ELUNO I’ve managed to get a vacuum seal on some chip bags. Just have to hit the seal button before it crushes them all. Unless you like chip dust.
@RiotDemon We made zucchini bread and saved the second loaf. I really wish I had thought about hitting the seal button before it mashed them down. Next time I will try that, or just freeze them first, then vacuum seal.
@ELUNO Wait! Are those turkey and stuffing flavored potato chips??? Shut up! Forget work today, I’m going to Trader Joe’s!!!
@RiotDemon Hot Dog + Smashed chips on top = good
@RiotDemon So this model can vacuum and seal on command? On mine I do not have this option so I press really hard on the lid hoping to get enough pressure to complete the seal and start the auto vacuum.
@rv617 lol, I grabbed that pic online, so I can’t guarantee they are selling them at the moment. I would guess give it two more months and they will…
@caffeine_dude This has a vac/seal and seal buttons. You use the vac/seal and when you see it has sucked enough air out and is about to force crush your delicious bread, you manually hit the seal button to stop the vacuum and start the sealing.
@ELUNO I bought this last time; very happy with it. The chip bag sealing was a huge selling point.

@ELUNO
@ELUNO Would you hit this button before it starts sucking the steak juice into the machine?
@caffeine_dude We were talking about that on another thread. Higher end models include an option for “wet” sealing.

They are selling bags with something like this already in place. Another workaround is to put the steak in the bag in the freezer for a little while, in order to freeze the juices a little bit, and then seal it.
@caffeine_dude you can do that, but then it will not be fully vacuumed. Better to freeze for an hour first.
First thing I ever bought from meh that really sucks. Really. My first purchase in this category, and I’m pleased with the product and value.
@irishbyblood this was my first purchase as well.
finally, after a week of nothing, something I actually want to buy.
As a pissed off VMP mehmber who DIDN’T GET A BOX OF TRASH FOR $5 I have to tell you that this thing really SUCKS the air out of a bag and seals it.
In for 4 in purple and of course I got VMP it’s savings are no mystery!
@cshillaber be happy…you saved a fiver yesterday
For a second there I though it was an auto feed scanner. If you can’t tell, there is a vacuume in my life for an auto feed scanner.
@Charliethedog it will romance your printer
@Charliethedog N.B., be careful what you choose. NeatReceipts has withdrawn the driver for older versions of their sheet fed scanner. That’s the second time this WEEK that I have found out one of my devices was bricked by deliberate vendor action.
Unless it has a built-in cat hair filter, must pass.
@lordbowen Are you going to vacuum-pack a cat?
@PocketBrain Can you imagine looking at a sealed bag and seeing a cat hair inside?
Love this thing. Bought it that last two times. The first one is still going strong. Bought the second as a spare. Tempted to buy a third as a double spare at this price.

@pfarro1 How do you seal juicy food? (or food im marinade)?
@pfarro1 I got my foodsaver last time specifically for SV. very happy.
@xweb Yikes! Sorry to hear this. FoodSaver was excellent to me when one of my FS containers didn’t work. They sent me a whole new set for free.
… and thanks for the refurb warning.
The emergency seal kits for my classic Land-Rover are all vacuum sealed—a feature you appreciate when they float out of the under seat tool locker and come bobbing to the surface… Just sayin’
Can I use this with my Flowbee?
I love that I get mentioned every time you guys sell this now. Thanks for the ego boost.

I got this last time and actually used it for what I had intended…
My mom needs a foodsaver. The sealing tape went bad on the one she has so…

Ah . . . finally a foodsaver! At this price if it doesn’t work it will make a nice doorstop.
Not too shabby on the price. The extras help seal the deal!
/giphy laughing-overt-plastic
@rob4reds gotta love ads from Australia!
Can the tube on this model be used with the Foodsaver re-usable Gallon zip top bags?
@Uber7ech if you mean these:
Then I don’t think it comes with the cup that you put over the seal port.
Fun fact… you can seal those bags by sucking the air out manually with your mouth… very handy when you don’t finish you sammich and are out and about.
Yay, my first purchase. I’m a sucker for a good deal.
I have been waiting for this to go on sale again Woo Hoo
I got this the last time? 2 times ago? It’s still sealed in the box it came in…
@mjc94ma… but not vacuum sealed… right?
Does it come with the chicken ?
A step up, I am still using the original suckless version my mom bought 40 years ago. I hope I can survive the culture shock w/o intensive therapy.
OMG… finally got around to trying steak sous-vide. Used this cooker and it turned out AMAZING. Will definitely add this to my list of favorite ways to prepare steak!
Got mine and not impressed. One button doesn’t work and the foam seal looks like junk. Meh is right
I love this purchase. So happy I bought it
Will you have these again?
