@davebsd I bought a sous vide cooker on Monday, this today. I was actually looking for this exact model and was ready to pay $40 for a refurb so thank you meh.
@chienfou Had one last night. It was a very mediocre (see what I did there) cut of sirloin but came out perfectly cook. Seared on both sides and it looks like something from a food magazine.
@carl669 Yes. All the crap people like me have bought are why he can buy a Tesla. He shouldn’t be bitching like a toddler and asking for special treatment.
@snapster
If I had the money to afford it I would be into a Tesla too. Enjoy your toy even if need to upgrade soon. You worked hard to build woot then meh and both have been positive forces for good in their time on the internet.
@drewv WOW.
I like it when people make money. It’s better when people make a LOT of money.
That’s OK, because there’s still a lot more money out there that you can earn & get rich.
Tesla is a company in California that employs around 6000 people, plus others that supply to this company.
@snapster hey, that one order paid for your Tesla (not your hard work, your other business ventures, etc.). Not to mention the absurdity that you shouldn’t be able to have a negative customer experience and voice frustration about it.
@CaptAmehrican Just thinking ahead here, perhaps one of the next Fukus will contain the keys to @snapster’s outdated Tesla. Think of it as the ultimate refurb.
@CaptAmehrican if I had the money to buy a Tesla I’d rent a maid to clean the house and a gardener that would pull the weeds that neither of us is inclined to pull. And I’d get my bunion that has adversely affected me for at least a decade removed. That would probably use up the money.
Advice for bags that lose their seal:
I learned to double-seal, and it works most of the time. If you’re sealing something bulky, sometimes there’s an overlap at the corners that causes the leak. A diagonal seal on the corner solves that problem.
Just used mine for the first time this past week to seal filets from 16 wild salmon from my son’s fishing expedition, works AMAZINGLY well, and for quite a long period of non-stop use as well. Very well pleased. Thinking about getting another just to have as a backup.
Ordered on an earlier offering. So far, pretty impressive for something that sucks. Word to the wise (or foolish?), they pack it with the bags on top, so if you open it with a knife, you will slash the bags.
Bought one of these last time, and coincidentally, used it “in anger” for the first time just last week, dividing up 40lb of bacon, 20lb of sausage, and 20lb of ground beef to put into our deep freeze. Works great, but it does need a little care and you do need to pay attention.
The included bags and roll worked perfectly, but a subsequent roll bought separately doesn’t work quite so flawlessly. It seems that the different pattern embossed into the new roll makes getting a perfect vacuum seal a little more tricky, meaning that sometimes it just doesn’t suck properly, which properly sucks.
The trick is to unlatch the thing before it starts to seal if this happens, then realign the open end of the bag in the machine, re-latch it, and try again. Sometimes it takes two or three tries, but it works eventually.
Other than that minor hassle, it’s great, especially at Meh price.
Can you freeze stew, or would that be a disaster? I plan to basically only eat soup and stew this winter. Now that I have a breadmaker ($5 thrift store find!), maybe adding this could mean I very rarely need to expend effort… hmm…
Maybe I could freeze soup into a block, then vacuum-seal the block so it’ll last forever?? I’ve wanted one of these the last few times it came around, but I don’t really buy/cook big pieces of meat, so I couldn’t convince myself it was worth the counter space.
@currawong two choices:
pre-freeze then seal or
hit the seal button when liquid gets to the top of bag while sealing. This will interrupt the vacuum cycle and cause it to seal at the point it had achieved. (Also, while running the vacuum, you can let it hang over the edge of the counter to help everything go to the bottom of the bag, then after sealing it, lay it flat to make it freeze in more manageable shape)
@thismyusername There is actually a competition at the Alabama National Fair (no stinkin’ state fair for us…) that is based on SPAM recipes… download entry form
im in it for the sucky vacuum hose- theres a compatible lid sucker that covers canning jar lid assemblies giving dry goods storage a little less breathing room… keeps stuff tasty longer
@sunderbug FWIW I found that the wide mouth one works best (bought both regular and wide mouth from WM). Not sure if it’s due to
jar brand
lid brand
design flaw
I get a successful seal with wide mouth jar/lid 95% of the time. Regular jars/lids about 50%. I just ended up buying a bunch of wide mouth jars/lids including 1/2 gallon size for really big stuff. Still, I love this for spices, dried coconut ( 4/$1 at Dollartree recently) grains (keeps bugs out) etc.
Also look back through the forum for the link for vacuum containers that were sold on line at a great price (too lazy to look for the link right now)
Of course, YMMV but I definitely love mine.
@CaptAmehrican I saw that as well. Any rolls should work fine (unless they are super thick or something, but I doubt any are.) I haven’t tried these ones in particular, but I’ve tried other generic ones.
@CaptAmehrican here is a link to the ones I bought a few months back (actually cheaper now than when I got them). You get 50 ft of 8 inch and 50 ft of 11 inch for 15.40 (S&H free with Amazon prime etc). They work like a charm in my FS unit purchased here months ago.
@machopr, It probably won’t help, but I was having a problem with the address validation, and I put the apartment number on the first line and the street address on the second line and it worked. I think that it has to do with how your credit card company stores your address for validation. Good luck.
Deal paused, over 6k units sold! Glad I got mine in time!! (I’ll be at work when they release the next ones…" can you please hold pressure on that wound while I check meh.com??")
Good thing I have that VMP membership that I never use or I wouldn’t have been able to buy this mediocre refurbished FoodSaver that I will definitely be gifting to my wife for Christmas.
I am happy. Bought one in the last offering, then bought meats in bulk, foodsavered and froze it, was happy. Easy defrost too when foodsavered flat. So, happy to buy one more.
/giphy overactive-poor-panda
The ONLY reason I bought this is that hurricane season is (mostly) over, so I can start putting food into the freezer again.
/giphy "tinted benevolent song"
I hope this thing comes with instructions. I had a food saver-sealer thing years ago, no vacuum feature, loved it. Froze everything flat, then stacked them upright, saved so much space. Is there a choice to suck or not to suck? And what is the tube for? BTW, you sous vide folks got me beat. I had to look it up and still can’t believe it’s a thing.
@suewalsh1 …nnnoooo, not exactly. I can learn, though. If anyone finds a source for recipes that work well with this, please share. Already have plans for sous vide. Giphy has some really bad ideas for ‘sous vide’, btw.
You guys are ass holes! I try to buy and you say your saving for your VIP members so I sign up. Then you say no it’s only for VIP that signed up before today. Fuck you! It’s for sale and I can’t buy?? Scum bags
@divemasterjim if you don’t use the VMP for anything (and if they don’t send any perks) just cancel it and it will auto-refund… so don’t cancel it yet… wait until the product switchover…
I am not sure how the code works but if any are left after the switchover (11pm central) it might let you buy one with the “last call”… check the right side of the main page after the product switchover to see if it offers it to you.
These are popular so I suspect they will return yet again.
Still around when I had time to check, so I picked up one more (#3 today) for another nurse in the ER. She was tired of hearing me rhapsodize about the FS on meh. so this will give her a chance to become a believer…
/giphy I’m a believer
@thismyusername I’ve heard of the brand but never used one. One spec I like is 1200W.
Bought an Anova Precision a while back (before the wifi one came out) and love it. Got my email to confirm my address for my Joule shipment today as well.
Mine arrived today. Once I put the foam seal back in pkace it seems to work great.
Quick question as there something that the accesory hose was for or do i need to buy extras before i use that?
@CaptAmehrican
Can be used for the aforementioned containers, and can buy an adapter that allows you to create a vacuum in a canning jar, using normal lids. This DOES NOT replace processing foods, but allows you to store herbs, flour, nuts, etc in containers under vacuum for freshness and “bug mitigation”… The wide mouth one works better than the regular jar one… I will post links at a future time…
Got my foodsaver and it was dead right out if the box, never even powered up. Now to send it to Foodsaver for them to warranty it. Will see what will come out if it. Ugh.
on one the bottom vacuum gasket lifted when I opened the unit
on the last one the bottom and top gaskets both pulled out of their channel.
All of them came with the appropriate bags, tubing etc.
Reseated the gaskets without much trouble, so not too upset with the outcome.
Overall, not too bad. All of them SUCK (and seal) which is, after all, the goal.
I think the main reason #2 and 3 had a problem is that they arrived with the latch in the closed position, which caused the gaskets to be compressed and stick together over time. Since it is specifically mentioned NOT TO STORE UNIT WITH LATCH ENGAGED, and these were coming straight out of the box after being re-furbed by the manufacturer, that was a bit disappointing. Thankfully it was easily ‘fixed’ and they all work fine.
Glad I opened them before I gave them away.
. . . . . . . . .Happy FoodSavering . . . . . . . . . . .
I purchased this as a backup for my older VAC 550 which still works fine but is long in the tooth. Anyhow, when I first tried my refurb it would not completely evacuate the bag. When I went to pull out the gasket to reseat it, it split into two pieces. Unlike my older model, this unit uses one gasket on top and one on the bottom. If your motor runs, but it does not completely suck the air out of the bag make sure the two gaskets have not pushed together to make just a “single” gasket; it will not create a complete vacuum!
I bought two of these for my daughters for Christmas–It is april and they have only used it twice and now it will not work–no lights come on–where do I send for warranty–Thanks for your help. Laurie

Got one of these last time. Great deal
@jmhsrv this. Exactly this.
@jmhsrv Me Too!!! Meat slicer + Vacuum sealer = Cheap deli meat! Well at least cheap ham and turkey!
Remember the laminator that Meh was selling for +$100? Couldn’t you just make smaller presentations and use this?
@MehnofLaMehncha the plastic in the roll has a kind of textured surface, I believe to help get all air out.
@skylerdray your satire meter is malfunctioning…
I always think this would so smart to have.
But then I realize I’d never use it.
@haydesigner
Saving food is so 13th century. Around here, we eat food, then buy more.
@haydesigner I use mine for sous vide cooking.
@davebsd I bought a sous vide cooker on Monday, this today. I was actually looking for this exact model and was ready to pay $40 for a refurb so thank you meh.
@jrreich You will LOVE sous vide steaks!
Just sayin’
@chienfou Had one last night. It was a very mediocre (see what I did there) cut of sirloin but came out perfectly cook. Seared on both sides and it looks like something from a food magazine.
Can’t wait for a strip or porterhouse!
Gonna go throw in a pork tenderloin right… now.
One I got last time broke down over a few sessions and seems useless now. i think its the sort of item you dont want refurb.
@MrGlass mine did also, I had to pay shipping to FoodSavor to have it fixed, but now, its all ok,
We have one exactly like this one & use it quite a lot.
Just keep the seals clean & it sucks every time!
Too many sucky items recently meh. What are you up to?
Done with this site. Here’s Meh’s CEO bitching about Tesla when they gave him the car he ordered:
@drewv so… you won’t order from meh because @snapster bought a Tesla?

@carl669 Yes. All the crap people like me have bought are why he can buy a Tesla. He shouldn’t be bitching like a toddler and asking for special treatment.

Works great, but I already have 2
Bought 2 last time, have been using it nearly every day. Gave one to my sister.
I even sealed up some craft supplies I didn’t want to get damaged before I needed them… eventually. Look, the yarn was on sale. So I bought 12 skeins.
YOU DON’T KNOW MY LIFE, OK.
@aristan Amen to that!
@aristan Oh but I do…I’m a yarn hoarder myself. AND I get all the Michael’s, JoAnn, and AC Moore coupons emailed to me. The struggle is real.
Woot has this for $35, Good job Meh better prices make for a better experience https://home.woot.com/offers/foodsaver-rt-fm2000-vacuum-sealer-2?ref=w_cnt_bs_9
@yitzrand Different model.
@yitzrand Different model, although I don’t know what the difference is. The Woot offering looks snazzier.
@halnwheels No accessory hose?

At first I read this as the FootSaver Vacuum Sealing System and I thought it didn’t make sense. But it makes perfect sense if you eat feet.
@rv617 The previous model used a foot pump to pull the air out. This one is electric; much easier on your feet.
very happy with my previous purchase. gets the job done nicely for sous vide.
Got one of these at last offering. I have been using vac sealers for a number of years, and this one works better than the previous 2 units i had. I like it and IMO it is a geat buy.
