I got this last time, it works well, but you have to double seal both sides of the bags. (Haven’t tried Food Saver bags though, just generic).
A cool feature is that there are two buttons, one for vac and seal and one for just seal. If you’re sealing something crushable, you can vacuum as much air out as you want, then hit seal before it crushes anything.
@usbank I got it last time and mine looked new, box was sealed, it had a sticker on it saying it was reinspected and past, but the manual for it was a bad photo copy of the original. Besides the manual as far as I could tell it was as good as new.
@usbank Ditto… looked unused/brand new. Used it a few times so far and REALLY like it. Ordered an adapter to allow me to vacuum seal “mason jars” for stuff you may not want to crush under vacuum (think crackers etc). Hasn’t arrived yet, so no data on that topic…
@eeterrific Definitely make sure that you have yourself double bagged to prevent that ever dreaded freezer burn! Oh, and I’d also suggest having someone label you as “Not For Human Consumption”…Unless you’re cool with being noshed on, instead of revived sometime down the road, after the Apocalypse, Zombie attack or if Trump becomes President. Just sayin’.
when you get the sealer and it doesn’t appear to work, before going to the trouble of following the troubleshooting steps, check to see if your bags are slit, just sayin’
don’t mess around, you can get cheap bags anywhere online- this thing will change the way you shop, store and possibly cook.
yes- there are better machines for a lot more.
Got one last time. Had a pinched and damaged gasket that the FoodSaver (aka Sunbeam?) replaced without complaining even though I said it was a refurb and didn’t tell them where I actually bought it. I’ve sealed some things since with no complaints.
I bought this model a year ago. I don’t use it a lot, but I’ve seal a few dozen bags. It works well once I learned to use it correctly. I use third-party cheaper bags, and they work. A couple of the pint bags have failed to seal properly, but all the quart ones have, so I blame either technique or the pint bags.
Yes, I mostly cook beef and chicken sous vide with it, but I will not prosthelytize about it.
Ive bought two different models of FoodSaver food Vacuum sealers in the past they both stop sealing after a year or so. I understand why they have so many you refurbished units to sell on a website they don’t last long and they’re not even worth $22
@creaturette you might try replacing the Teflon coating that is over the heater mechanism. $10 for three replacement strips. That strip can get damaged over time. We paid far more for ours and this did the trick.
@irishbyblood so let me get this straight… you hold the end in your mouth and place the catheter tip in your… then hit the switch and it sucks it into place.
Brilliant… We may have to start using that technique in the ER… It would certainly speed things up over all that sterile mumbo jumbo we use now…
I was in last time. No regrets. About the purchase I mean. Otherwise, I’ve had a few. Regrets I mean.
My freezer already filling with leftover burgers, pork chops, Italian sausages and more. Rolls of sealing plastic are cheap on Amazon. Great value for the price on this unit.
@irishbyblood How was the item’s condition when you received it last time? Does it look the same as “brand-new” or you can clearly tell it’s refurbished?
I bought this last time and it completely fails if there’s any liquid at all in the bag, even if it’s just a teaspoon of olive oil. The seemingly-inferior Rival machine I bought here a while ago does a much better job. I think this really is just for vacuum-sealing bud.
Got the new model for like $50 on launch. These are clearing old stock is all. Like it so far. 3rd party rolls from Amazon are much less. Do recommend sealing twice.
I was just sitting around waiting to buy one of these when it finally hits… and then my Fuko bag showed up with one in it.
Coincidence? I think not.
Once again we are faced with a dilemma. Carefully placed generosity at the cost of the loss of privacy due to Meh and it’s clever spying minions? Is the practically free price worth knowing that someone is watching my every move? Now I understand the whole NSA vs terrorism argument all too well… I am living it.
Every time the motor whirs… sucking the air from my perishables, I will look over my shoulder (both directions) and just know that my privacy perishes as well.
@Veloslave I was excited when I saw you got a foodsaver in your fuko, then this pops up. I bought one, we’ll see if I get another when my bag arrives today XD
@RedOak It’s not like a vacuum sealer is gonna spice up the bedroom…unless we can get really, really creative! And being we’re in our 50’s, flexibility is rapidly becoming non-existant.
Love it. Much better than the earlier $15 model. Have sealed several dozen pieces of meat, a case of strike anywhere matches and a few pounds of tobacco. Buying another one, because it’s probably cheaper than paying the return shipping for the warranty when the first one fails.
This thing is ok, but the bags are kind of expensive. I owned one about 7 months and spent about 150 dollars on bags alone over the course of my use to the point where I just said screw it and went out and bought a chamber sealer. I got the Vacmaster VP215 (I got it on sale for about 680 regular price is 899) and now I only pay about 40 bucks for 1000 bags. Yeah it costs a lot more, but it also vacuums a lot better and works with more types of food, such as liquids.
Don’t get me wrong the FoodSaver is a good machine for light use, but if you’re serious about vacuum sealing then I would go with a chamber sealer because after you buy bags for this thing you’ll be up to the price of a chamber sealer in no time.
Got this the last time around. Works great! (We’re light users) For $22, and not sure if you’ll use it, I recommend it for a try out. Wasn’t as big or as heavy as I thought. It’s quite lightweight and can be easily stowed in that empty kitchen cabinet.
@dolphinone I’ve heard they exist, kinda like Brigadoon. I was hoping I’d have one after we remodeled and expanded our kitchen. Sadly, that is not the case. My cabinets suddenly seemed to be full of glassware, storage “solutions,” and odd appliances from here and a few other deal a day sites.
@dolphinone Tis a rare sighting. One must be very cautious not to make it disappear. Once it leaves, it’s almost impossible to locate it again. I think the gov’t is going to put it on the endangered species list.
Other uses:
Keeping PLA and nylon 3D printer filament dry- use with or without desiccant.
Vacuum bagging small composite lay-ups- I used a similar device when I was making parts for my carbon fiber bicycle.
@mrehorst “carbon fiber bicycle”!
Can we talk?
Looking at getting my first carbon road Trek (Domane SLR 6) but a little nervous about: new technology + carbon.
@snapster I know employees have to buy stuff and all but damn, of all people you should probably be allowed to wander through the warehouse and take what’s yours.
@cinoclav by the time 3 people helped me or an inventory control adjustment was run through accounting my actual cost would be twice what I just paid! (plus it’s nice to complain about how few airbags we use and such)
@RedOak You won’t need the vacuum function for your purpose, just sealing, as it’s not preservation that matters. There are small handheld impulse sealers that may be more suitable – and cheaper.
I have the Regal that I got here and i bought Foodsaver brand rolls from Amazon. I am primarily using it for dehydrated food for camping. I’m finding that about half my ‘bags’ lose their seal. That is they seem to seal fine and all the air is gone and then later sometimes under the rough handling if stuffing them in a backpack and sometimes with no handling at all they lost their vacuum. I see multiple people saying to seal them twice, so your experience is the seal is the weak point not the bag material itself? I was concerned that the dehydrated food was puncturing the bags as sometimes it’s kind of pointy.
@oldmantick I use my vacuum sealer (not this model, but similar) mostly for preserving the aromatic green buds I grow (hops, actually, but the other kind is legal here if I wanted). I find that about 1 out of 3 bags lose their seal after a while just sitting quietly in the freezer, even when I take great care and double seal them. Kind of disappointing.
Bought one last time. Totally worth the $22. My freezer is overflowing with vacuum sealed meaty goodness. It also reseals potato chip bags (without the vacuum). Only gripe is that most of the smaller bags it came with were sliced in half, but the roll of bags that it came with were fine and lasted me a while. If anyone is getting this and you have a Costco membership, they have a pack of 5 rolls and 36 bags on sale for $32 through the end of the month.
@cinoclav yep, I forgot about my recent induction into the chip card club (even though mere hours ago amazon shot me down also [although not as succinctly])
My very first vacuum sealer. I’m looking forward to being able to buy those huge packs of things at Costco and sealing up the remainders that my dinky family of three can’t possibly consume before it goes bad. My freezer is going to get a workout.
I have one of these… just to prove IT WORKS… yesterday in the back of my freezer I found a piece of salmon I put in a food saver bag July 2008 … now 8 years later I opened the STILL AIRTIGHT genuine FOODSAVER BAG, cooked the salmon and it was as if I just bought it fresh…
I LOVE my foodsaver.
my recommendation pay the extra price to use genuine foodsaver bags…
NO I DON’T WORK FOR THE COMPANY…LOL
@zachhh I’m alive, the foodsaver works. I wouldn’t recommend trying this. I didn’t have to go to the hospital. I do not work for MEH or the Foodsaver company.
I got one of these from Amazon. Love it lots! I bought a second one from Meh in their last offering at the same price as today. This second one is going to go out as a gift to someone I like. I use it every week to vacuum seal freshly grilled chicken breast portions. The sealed bags of chicken go straight to the freezer and anytime we want some grilled chicken that tastes like it just came off the grill I grab some of these vacuum sealed beauties out of the freezer, thaw them out and, voila! It’s the best!
Mine arrived today. It is defective, the “seal” button doesn’t work, and the “Vac and Seal” button works sometimes but just slowly blinks sometimes. Much disappoint.
@sms07 haven’t received one I had sent to my house yet so not sure of button type. Maybe try to really mash this button down hard or roll over it with back end of a screwdriver? You might as well even go beyond the extent you’re worried it might break if the thing is useless. There’s a small chance you’ll adjust it back into a working range. Don’t worry about it looking like you broke it. If no luck, we’ll probably have to refund and apologize for the hassle.
@sms07 For what it’s worth, I fiddled around with mine for awhile thinking it was broken before realizing I didn’t have the lock turned all the way down.
Meh ended up refunding mine. The manufacturer said I could pay to ship it to them and they would repair in 3/4 weeks. When I talked to the manufacturer she said that model number was never available as a refurbished unit, mine looked brand new so who knows.
@sms07 Sorry to hear the unit you got had problems.
Mine shipped in a retail box and had a sticker showing a “REMANUFACTURED” item. Looked brand new and had a small “R” initialed sticker on the bottom… so don’t understand why the manufacturer would say they are not refurbs?
Just tested the seal function a few times on mine and works great so far.
Mine arrived the other day. It was just the unit itself, not a ‘kit’- no tube, no bags, no roller paper. As sms07 put it so well- “Much disappoint”. We’ll see if meh can sort that out.
I guess I should be happy that mine arrived in working order, apparently will all the intended parts. Did my first little sealing yesterday.
Anybody have an opinion on the woot plus sale for a set of spare rolls and bags? (Worth it? Don’t bother the off-brand rolls are just as good? Neither of the above?)
Well, it’s moot, and no longer on Woot. Probably shoulda kept my big mouth shut! Sales picked up for a few hours, around the time I posted here, it sold out a little while ago. That’ll learn me.

@communist They are on sale this month at costco ($31.99 for a whole bunch): http://www.costco.com/FoodSaver-Combo-Pack-Bags.product.11681323.html
@communist
costco puts them on sale from time to time, but i don’t recall the pricesee above from @lizthey say don’t re-use them, but i do all the time if they’re not too hard to clean up
@communist Ask a mormon.
@communist You can get 50 linear feet of bag for $18 on amazon if you go off brand (Vac-Fresh).
I like mine a lot.

Are these sanctioned by the cryonics institute? I mean, if I freeze my body for future revival, I don’t wanna have freezer burn…
@eeterrific Hoping that would be a right proper southern baptist revival. Between the fried chicken and righteous music I’d pop in.
@eeterrific your real challenge will be finding a freezer that isn’t total crap and lasts long enough to prevent premature thaw.
@eeterrific Definitely make sure that you have yourself double bagged to prevent that ever dreaded freezer burn! @ftmyersbuc thanks! I’ll try that
my question: what do you do with the accessory hose?
@Panegyric I use mine in reverse mode for catheter insertion.
@Panegyric There are special jars that accept the hose.
@irishbyblood thank you. This is the sort of response I was looking for.
@Panegyric Take a look at the FoodSaver website. There are a bunch of things they want to sell you to connect up to that hose.
@Panegyric I knew I wasn’t the only one!
@SSteve That’s the same thing they said at the brothel!
@Panegyric You don’t even need special jars. I haven’t bought one yet, but they make attachments for large and small Mason jars that seal them using the jars’ regular lids.
@irishbyblood so let me get this straight… you hold the end in your mouth and place the catheter tip in your… then hit the switch and it sucks it into place.
Brilliant… We may have to start using that technique in the ER… It would certainly speed things up over all that sterile mumbo jumbo we use now…
@chienfou Yeah I think with my Bronze high deductible plan sterility is optional or maybe an additional co-pay.

@usbank Just like new. Could not discern it was a refurb.
Bought this last go around for our daughter who kept borrowing ours. Now we’re both happy!
@Jolara How was the item’s condition when you received it last time? Does it look the same as “brand-new” or you can clearly tell it’s refurbished?
I love mine! I use it frequently to seal up leftovers.

@SSteve How was the item’s condition when you received it last time? Does it look the same as “brand-new” or you can clearly tell it’s refurbished?
@usbank It looks brand new.
@SSteve Don’t seal the bag immediately, put the filled, open bag in the freezer first. When it’s completely frozen, then seal it.
@Dislimpet Thanks but I’m using it for sous vide, not freezing.
@SSteve Wouldn’t the liquid freeze relatively quickly, compared to the solids?

Got it last time, works decently for the price paid. The bags that came with it were all shredded and had holes in them for some reason… so yeah. Bought some 3rd party rolls off Amazon that you can make your own size bags with. They work & they’re the #1 best seller in the Fishing Catch Processing category, so you know they’re quality.

@bub78 How was the item’s condition when you received it last time? Does it look the same as “brand-new” or you can clearly tell it’s refurbished?
@usbank - Are you trying to find a particular one that you lost? What markings should we be looking for?
@KDemo Lmao - Seriously @usbank - how many times did you have to ask?
@usbank aside from the included bags being shredded/unusable the unit itself looked unused & works great.

@zachhh I’m alive, the foodsaver works. I wouldn’t recommend trying this. I didn’t have to go to the hospital. I do not work for MEH or the Foodsaver company.
@Moose I’m a foodie MD, no hospital required
Hm, how’s this work, now?

@rprussell Ooh, let me try that!

@InFrom Gorgeous!
@InFrom Oh that is MUCH nicer than mine…
(jealous)
@rprussell I was going to say it has stollen my heart, but then I decided it’s something other than a stollen. That icing is wild!
@InFrom Colors suggest king cake, but they’re not usually braided. Looks yum though!
First purchase!!!
@tinamarie1974 Yay!
Hey, I made that post on Reddit. I feel very meh about my fame.
Seriously, the reason I bought this was because my latest Fuko ended up being great so I almost felt justified in buying a gadget to don’t need.
I bought this solely so that I can eat steaks like this from now on.

This deal sucks. In for one!
First purchase!! Let me see if this is how this works…

@SurgTechGirl - Your first purchase should come with a black box addiction warning.
Welcome!

@billhelm It worked! Your order number is: fit-prudish-dress

One of your pictures for this device clearly has a V2244 model number. What’s the big idea here? Do you people even know what you’re selling!!!
Wow, you guys sold 3000 of these! I’d say the new pause control system is working out for you.
somehow, one of these was included in my Fuko 11 birthday bag!
Has anyones shipped yet? Delivery estimate is in a few days and I still don’t have a tracking number.
@MrGlass Yeah, mine started its long trek northeast on the 23rd.
@dolphinone Super weird. Even without the priority I get from VMP, it sounds like it should have shipped already
@sms07 I recieved mine today and the unit doesn’t power on at all
@jmoor783 Also the unit is full of crumbs and the bottom feet were half broken off, like it was used for a year then returned
@jmoor783 meh.com/support
they might take a couple days to get back to you
Meh ended up refunding mine.
@Jasong222 I think the ones with rolling papers were the previous sale. This time they are for food, man!
@djslack lol…thanks, but I mean rollER paper, not rolliNG. It’s definitely this one, part of a kit.
From the description: Includes one 11" x 10’ roll of plastic, 3 quart bags, 2 gallon bags, and an accessory hose
@InFrom Off-brand rolls work fine. I haven’t tried zipper bags (if those were offered) so I cannot comment on those.
mine does not work. i would like to return. what is the process?
@morie83 click the orders option at the top, and then click “I need help with this” on the order.
