@chrisi613 Really? People should as these are awesome! I love so much about mine but if I had to pick one thing, the alarms rocks! Best money I ever spent when I got this.
@midcontrast I was trying to make a point that people should consider this. This item, along with other changes in my lifestyle truly changed how i live my life. I would not be off several meds, down 65 lbs. and genuinly happy if it was not in part to this little guy. Try a little positivity and kindness, you might like it.
Own one (that model) - have had it for a year - I was going to get the one with the watch but they pulled it for the skin irritation. This model works great - battery lasts about a week. Only wish it had the altimeter but for $70 its a good buy. Might get one for the wife.
@ilovereality The skin rash thing reminds me of the Ford Exploder roll-over issue. Ended up replacing the tires with less safe ones, just to give the impression of action. The percentage of folks with rashes was the same as folks wearing Timexes, Rolexes (Rolexi?), or friendship bands.
I had one, no rash, but turned it in for a refund anyway because the housing was coming apart. Got the Charge now. No issues.
@ilovereality I got a fitbit One on Ebay for about $60 last week (After losing the One I had for 2 1/2 years) It clips on and you can get bracelets on etsy.
@saodell Just saying 5 dots is all you get. My company used these last year and they were dumb. W/O using the app on your phone you can't tell your exact number of steps and that's all you could tell with it was a guesstimate of your steps. Now we use the Sonic Boom Boomerang, same size but a lot more functionality. ... I did get the fitbit for free after I earned enough points and this one I had to pay $20 for but still a lot better deal IMO
@mehybe looks like a crappy business model for individuals. That device/environment looks to be focused at corporate HR departments as a Health Benefit.
I have one of these already. Really keeps me motivated to move more. The built in alarm is great for not waking your partner or if you don't like jumping out of bed for a noisy alarm clock.
@beagleston Too bad they keep delaying the ship date on them. I ordered mine in June 2014, the shipping date has been delayed again and they aren't due to ship until October 2015 at the earliest for the early adopters.
No Deal, and these things suck compared to what is on the horizon. Most phones can already tell you just about as much as this watch can. Wait it out and skip this thing. If it were under $35 I'd say why not ,but $75 PASS HARD
@Stallion I have a co-worker that said that very thing - a year ago when I got mine. He's been holding out for the iWatch - I don't care how great that thing is supposed to be - $350 for a watch that needs charged every 18 hours an can't get wet (I wear my fitbit everywhere) - I'll pass on that. The 'Horizon' is a long ways away. I'm happy to have spent the $95 a year ago - I'm in much better shape and the thing keeps me motivated to stay active.
@Stallion You sleep with your phone under your pillow? Maybe it's just me, but I'll go for a run with the biggest damn watch they make, but no way I'm putting a phone in a butt pack and hitting the pavement.
These devices are made for one reason. It's totally cool to say that reason doesn't float your wheaties. But I don't get the argument that it doesn't fetch your slippers or predict the weather and hence it sucks.
@Stallion I'm talking from experience, sorry everyone. My wife bought me one of these when they first came out and I wore it and had it tracking all my steps, but the sleep part never really worked all that well. I'd try to do the tap sequence to get it to track but it never was very accurate. I enabled my iphone to track my steps and it was on par with what the Fitbit told me in terms of steps. So yes the FitBit is easier since you wear it and go, but you also have to charge it. That brings me to the next point, the chargers suck. Both mine and my wife's chargers failed after a few months, we bought a replacement (FitBit wasn't trying to hear a warranty replacement) and the next one failed a few weeks later. So yes, i'll be waiting for a smarter watch, and even once it comes out i'll probably wait a while to get it since I don't HAVE to have it right away. These devices are great for early adopters, but they have been out for a few years and the good stuff is close to being launched. So for a $25 savings off of what Amazon sells it for there is no way I'd buy this for $75!!! LIke I said, MAYBE for $30ish tops, but $75 not a chance! Oh and for anyone wondering, these things do NOT float! I lost mine while on my boat so its probably on a lobster right now tracking his steps at the bottom of the ocean. Bottom line, is it a helpful and cool device? Yes, but is it worth $75 now that MUCH better stuff is on the horizon, not a chance.
@Stallion That's fine. Also talking from experience. Family member works for Sports Authority. I've use 2 diff fitbits, polar, Garmin, jawbone, Nike. Fitbit is the best of that lot. Others might do more, but there are trade offs. Ive never tried Withings. Heard good things about them. I'll caveat all that by saying the trade offs are sufficiently significant that this is totally a personal decision and personal preferences dictate. No hard and fast winners. And nothing wrong with that.
@conandlibrarian they think they are being cool. i have one, i like it, i always forget to log my sleep. i do wish they would make a model like that that tracked stairs.
@vampje if you forget to log your sleep you can always go back and guesstimate (if you want to) and then edit the times down based on the activity it shows (its always very apparent to me when I actually fell asleep by the complete dropoff in activity).
I wanted to exercise yesterday, but it just didn't work out. Maybe one of these would help. I tried to buy one of these once but the clerk kept giving me the run-around.
@rhcurry02 I enjoyed the inital motivation, but of course you got to push yourself. I dropped 65 lbs, thanks in part to this little guy and I cannot say enough good things about it.
@rhcurry02 I think you will find it extremely motivating (to start) - if you are someone that likes to reach a certain goal this thing will have you up and walking around whenever you have a chance just to see your numbers increase.
These were $50 on Black Friday. I bought the misfit for half that instead, then got these for Christmas. Haven't really put either one to use yet, but i think I like the Misfit better from the looks, versatility, and the fact it will tell time. I will experiment with both soon now that the cold is gone.
@djslack Well, then, it appears the Fit toys have been as put to use for you just as effectively as all those January 1st Health Club memberships so many folks buy. (It's been 81 days since Christmas - might as well have been 2 yrs.) :)
@RedOak Pretty much. At least I'm not paying a monthly bill for them, and will be using them soon. Had I known Meh was going to have them up I'd have done my comparison already so I had something more useful to contribute here.
Wait, I do have something more useful, maybe. The large wristband is almost exactly the same size as the Galaxy Gear, i.e. not very big, so if you're thick in the wrists, these may be a tight fit. The Misfit Flash wristband will accommodate a wrist several sizes larger.
So I'm just supposed to believe it's just a coincident that just one day before fitbits are for sale on meh, mine stops working, while I was wearing my mediocre socks? Thanks a lot meh.
Have had this for several years and it has been okay. However, it's not worth $70 for the functionality -- I'm sure this model won't be around too much longer.
I've had mine for a few years now. Well I had the one you clipped to belt. Until the clip broke off. Now I have this one. After a couple of years I did have to buy a new band for it. Since to charge it you have to take the tracker out of band and hook up to usb (old one you just slipped in dock. Was so nice.). Other annoyance is I have to take it off when typing because it bothers me. As others have mentioned the silent alarm is pretty great. As far as any sorta motivation to walk... Eh not really https://www.fitbit.com/user/22D769 (that's another bonus is they give you a lot of control over who sees what. And unlike Facebook they don't change it constantly and default to sharing it with everyone)
@TerriblyHuang as it should be... bad enough The Santa Claus is watching me while I sleep I don't want the world to watch (also I actually don't use the sleep monitoring that much)
I have this. Bought it at Costco a few months ago with my mom and my gym buddy. I wouldn't say the device itself has affected my activity level more than another pedometer would, but knowing my stats and tracking my progress with the fitbit app (which syncs really well with another health app, myfitnesspal) has made me more aware of my activity level and more likely to take a walk if I'm behind by a thousand steps or so. I don't think it comes down to whether it's the iwatch or the fitbit, it's just awareness. That aside, I have one and like it and probably wouldn't pay more for any other pedometer.
My manfriend and I have the Polar Loop. The only pro for that system is it's waterproof, so I can scrub up at work and not worry about damaging it. The Loop counts your steps, but the calorie counter is weird, you can't set your activity goal, so if I had to choose again I'd go with the FitBit.
@atravis6 I know several people who wear their flexes in the shower without an issue daily. I wore my One in a warrior dash where I got so muddy that there was an earthworm inside my bra and my pants were stretched to twice their normal size and it was fine.
@WolfBoy_Park Thanks for mentioning this. Seems like a much better deal for someone new to this whole fitness band thing. I'll try a Xiaomi Mi Band. If I end up finding it useful AND realize the Fitbit features are necessary, I'll buy a fitbit next time meh has one on sale. I'm sure it'll be $50 or less by then.cause theres no way these are selling out today.
@WolfBoy_Park I actually am wearing the Xiaomi Mi band and so far I am liking it so far. Word to the wise, if you have big wrist, it will be tight. My wrist are about 6.9" in diameter and mine snaps into the third last hole.
@WolfBoy_Park So, upon rereading, my first comment comes across kind of douchey. I could have said what I was trying to say in a better way. Just wanted to say sorry.
I hate the FitBit company. They collect all this data on an hourly basis from the unit, and it all gets uploaded to their servers. WHERE YOU CANNOT GET ACCESS! They refuse to give you back your own detailed data. They will give it to some medical companies, but not you.
As soon as I realized this, I quit wearing it. I now wear an Omron pedometer that I download locally to my own database, and I get all the data on an hourly basis.
@SIMBM Don't give them your real personal info when you sign up if you are concerned about your data - then you are just an anonymous user. Unless I am mistaken there is no where online on their site where you have to provide a credit card number or any ID. You just link your device with your account.
@ilovereality My primary concern is that >I< do not have access to that data. I cannot download my data on an hourly basis, and slice and dice it to my specifications.
Yeah, it also worries me that I am their product, and I can fake my account info. But to not let >me< access my own detailed data really frosts me.
@SIMBM I agree it would be fun to download and play with. I've not looked in their forums to see if this has been asked about & what their reply might be but I'm sure some have requested it. I do get weekly emails with the basic numbers (not hourly or quarterly hour breakdowns though).
@MsELizardBeth You can see the chart of the relative amounts. But you cannot see the actual numbers, nor is there any way to download that data. You'd have to hand copy the numbers down every day.
@cranky1950 I happen to have two Polar FT7 watches with chest straps new in the boxes that were destined for ebay. If you're interested I'm chrismike318 at gmail. If this isn't kosher in the forums, mods feel free to delete.
I wore one of these and paid $99.00. (Now I wear the Charge) Our company uses these to gain points and with enough points you get a hefty insurance premium discount. Wearing one of these has saved me hundreds of dollars.... (If not Thousands over 3 years, not just with the tracker but healthy habits as well but the tracker really accumulates points quickly)
@unixrab It's a great idea to contain health costs- the company ends up with a healthier group of people who likely make less claims, thereby keeping rates /and or rate increases lower. People feel good about doing it, and the cost to the company vs. the benefits is low.
If you're considering one of these (or any other fit tracker) check with your insurance company. Mine (Cigna) paid $70 towards a tracker so I got this model for $30 which is about what its really worth. The steps tracker works well, I wear a watch so I put mine on my dominant hand. I'm in the gym every morning except Saturday but until I got this I wasn't really keeping track of my movement the rest of the day. It doesn't pick up activity such as weight lifting very well but its a nice way for me to make sure I move enough everyday (desk job) and keeps me tracking my workouts. The sleep tracker works ok if you use it correctly, it only monitors movement so if you tell it you're sleeping and then read a book, it won't know the difference. If you tell it you're sleeping then lay down and go to bed it does a decent job of telling you how much you move around. I love mine but again, I paid $30.
Just ordered one for the wife, she's been eying mine for the last few months. For everyone that keeps saying they will wait until its less expensive.... if you wait 5 months and its $50 then, you've saved yourself $5 each month but likely you won't start being more active until you get one - so get it NOW and get walking ;)
Doesn't do anything your phone can't. Costs way (~3x) more than competitor products that have an OLED display. Does no one know that their phone has an accelerometer in it?
Hubby got one of these for Christmas last year and we all take turns wearing it. The sleep information is awesome! To find out you wake up a dozen or so times a night is interesting... Also, we try to "out-do" each other in steps walked each day, so it definitely helps with motivation to get moving! I wanted to buy two, but at $75 I know it's a deal, but I would love to see them at maybe $50- I definately would have bought two! I have been watching the sale ads and these don't seem to go on sale. So if u r in the market for one- buy it!!!
Received my FitBit on Saturday...opened it Sunday. "Charged" it Sunday and Monday, except the device would not charge. Sent an email Monday, still waiting to hear back. Not happy. Want a new, WORKING, FitBit please!!!
@caitlinpannell sorry for the trouble. Our customer support team is responding to emails as quickly as they can, we have quite a few emails right now so that means 5-6 days. If you look at the specs for this sale (at the top of this thread) the warranty for these is being handled by FitBit. I would suggest contacting them as a first step to getting a replacement.

Ugh nobody wants this -_-
@chrisi613 Really? People should as these are awesome! I love so much about mine but if I had to pick one thing, the alarms rocks! Best money I ever spent when I got this.
@chrisi613 Great device, for what it does. And to do anything more requires a huge form factor inconvenience and/or recharge issues.
@conandlibrarian Wow best money ever spent that sounds serious. Do you make a lot of purchases?
@midcontrast I was trying to make a point that people should consider this. This item, along with other changes in my lifestyle truly changed how i live my life. I would not be off several meds, down 65 lbs. and genuinly happy if it was not in part to this little guy. Try a little positivity and kindness, you might like it.
@conandlibrarian @midcontrast
I was thinking the same thing. Hipster permanent sarcasm is so 2012.
No issues.
@saodell I've considered going with the charge - I do miss my watch (I did try wearing my watch and fitbit at the same time but it looks really dumb).
@ilovereality I got a fitbit One on Ebay for about $60 last week (After losing the One I had for 2 1/2 years) It clips on and you can get bracelets on etsy.
@ilovereality do not buy this for your wife! She will think that you think she is fat and she will get upset. Buy her flowers. Trust me on this.
Have to wear it like a watch without the functionality of a watch. No thanks!
@mehybe and i wear boxers the same way I wear a jock and cup, but without that functionality, either.
@mehybe and bifocals that are not sunglasses are just total shit :)
@snapster I have bifocals that are sunglasses, but actually, bifocals ARE total shit!
(o'course, that whole "gettin' old & can't see" thing may be part of the problem.)
@mehybe Awesome... except for the fact that it appears the people who make that have no interest in selling it to individuals.
Considering I bought a Fitbit Charge for only $2 more, I'll pass.
@cinoclav where?
@zboy71 REI - On sale and used an additional coupon around Christmas. Deals can definitely be found.
@cinoclav yep. Almost got the Charge at the same time but decided to wait - probably will get one for $50 or so this christmas.
@maxvt Yeah, I bought it for a present so there was no waiting. Personally, I have no interest in them.
That looks like something the court ordered your Uncle Chester to wear on his ankle.
Activity tracking - but for different reasons.
@eyewerks Yup! At least they thought that was his ankle...
I have one of these already. Really keeps me motivated to move more. The built in alarm is great for not waking your partner or if you don't like jumping out of bed for a noisy alarm clock.
@neerak totally agree, I love the alarm clock. Being partially deaf, the gentle shake is awesome.
I need an activity tracker that tells me stuff like "amount of alcohol consumed"
@The_Baron sounds like you're looking for https://www.myvessyl.com
@beagleston How did you find this???
@beagleston Too bad they keep delaying the ship date on them. I ordered mine in June 2014, the shipping date has been delayed again and they aren't due to ship until October 2015 at the earliest for the early adopters.
$70 on eBay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fitbit-Flex-Wireless-Activity-Sleep-Wristband-Black-FB401BK-Complete-Set-/191537190995?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c98819853
@Collin1000 decent for an open box unit. Must have boogers on it or something. ;)
@Collin1000 You had to see this coming. Meh's new pricing strategy after the cam/lantern debacle.
@Collin1000 All 10 of them sold out.
@Collin1000 Costco has them, too. No discount but you get extra bands.
@Collin1000 $60 on online classifieds in my area http://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=218&ad=33834888&cat=&lpid=&search=fitbit&ad_cid=3
useless as teats on a nun... and almost as attractive.
Its a stalker...
@eeterrific powered by the NSA?
No Deal, and these things suck compared to what is on the horizon. Most phones can already tell you just about as much as this watch can. Wait it out and skip this thing. If it were under $35 I'd say why not ,but $75 PASS HARD
@Stallion how is it that this is worse that something that doesn't even exist yet?

@ilovereality That's a pretty good argument. Kinda like the way our car's MPG gauge motivates driving lightly by turning it into a game.
@Stallion I'm talking from experience, sorry everyone. My wife bought me one of these when they first came out and I wore it and had it tracking all my steps, but the sleep part never really worked all that well. I'll caveat all that by saying the trade offs are sufficiently significant that this is totally a personal decision and personal preferences dictate. No hard and fast winners. And nothing wrong with that.
I have a Fitbit Charge HR and I love it. Huge fan of Fitbit products!
@Collin1000 I agree. I am not sure why so many people are hating on this.
@conandlibrarian they think they are being cool. i have one, i like it, i always forget to log my sleep. i do wish they would make a model like that that tracked stairs.
@vampje The Charge can track elevation. Closest thing to a Flex in price. IIRC the Charge also has auto-sleep.
@vampje if you forget to log your sleep you can always go back and guesstimate (if you want to) and then edit the times down based on the activity it shows (its always very apparent to me when I actually fell asleep by the complete dropoff in activity).
@ilovereality yeah, i know, but i forget that as well, lol. but i do love the alarm feature. it has saved me when i forget to set my real alarm.
why????
Over or under 100?
I wanted to exercise yesterday, but it just didn't work out. Maybe one of these would help. I tried to buy one of these once but the clerk kept giving me the run-around.
@rhcurry02 I enjoyed the inital motivation, but of course you got to push yourself. I dropped 65 lbs, thanks in part to this little guy and I cannot say enough good things about it.
@conandlibrarian My motivation mostly comes from having coworkers do workweek challenges with me.
@rhcurry02 I think you will find it extremely motivating (to start) - if you are someone that likes to reach a certain goal this thing will have you up and walking around whenever you have a chance just to see your numbers increase.

@saodell 'a bit interesting, but 'not sure how that applies here?
@djslack You can get quite a few alternative wrist bands on etsy that make it look less like a tracking anklet and more like a bracelet.
Way too much money, Meh. You guys got a heating bill coming due? Deals can be had out there for same/similar at better prices.
@clarinetbob if you can supply them we would like to buy 1000+ units at $70
@snapster If you end up having any extras, you can send them my way ;)
@snapster how about 3 units at $85?
@snapster As of 12 noon EST, you've only sold 130 of these. The people have spoken. Have a good day, sir (ma'am?).
So I'm just supposed to believe it's just a coincident that just one day before fitbits are for sale on meh, mine stops working, while I was wearing my mediocre socks? Thanks a lot meh.
@metaphore The week after I got a phone that FINALLY syncs via bluetooth with my fitbit that I have had for 2 1/2 years, I lost the damn fitibit
@vrillusions Sleep is visible only to friends. AND SANTA CLAUS!
@vrillusions Friend some people on the app and then challenge them to the workweek hustle. It does motivate me!
@TerriblyHuang as it should be... bad enough The Santa Claus is watching me while I sleep I don't want the world to watch (also I actually don't use the sleep monitoring that much)
@MsELizardBeth I have no friends... thanks :(
@vrillusions Befriend me in the app and I'll accept your challenges! lizardisanerd at gmail dot com.
Does this keep better time than the 2fer fitness watch?
These are fun because you can tap them and some of those white LEDs light up based on how many steps you've taken that day.
My company bought me one of these. Works great until you lose it.
I'm gonna strap this to my arm each time I masturbate and see how many miles my wrist gets to travel each day.
@MetalSparks you mean, there are times when you'll actually be removing it?
@eyewerks I don't think I'll ever have the chance to remove it. ;)
@MetalSparks Doesn't work... And that experiment has been run many times.
@mdrcoast I think if one had a really long... range of motion .. and did it at a jogging pace rather than a sprint it might work.
In for one in 2016 when it will be $7.50.
@atravis6 I've worn my fitbit in the shower and pool/tub without issue.
@atravis6 I know several people who wear their flexes in the shower without an issue daily. I wore my One in a warrior dash where I got so muddy that there was an earthworm inside my bra and my pants were stretched to twice their normal size and it was fine.
@MsELizardBeth I had 2 fitbits die on me after showering. They no longer claim they are "Water Resistant"
Oh.. Xiomi MI Band is under $20..
no one will buy this..
@WolfBoy_Park Yep, I see those in all the stores around here.
Actually, I read a review and that doesn't look bad at all.
@WolfBoy_Park Came to say the same thing. I got mine in last week and so far it is pretty amazing.
@WolfBoy_Park I actually am wearing the Xiaomi Mi band and so far I am liking it so far. Word to the wise, if you have big wrist, it will be tight. My wrist are about 6.9" in diameter and mine snaps into the third last hole.
@WolfBoy_Park 215 people disagree with you so far
@WolfBoy_Park So, upon rereading, my first comment comes across kind of douchey. I could have said what I was trying to say in a better way. Just wanted to say sorry.
I must say: March has been somewhat of a disappointment. "meh" doesn't really suffice... I think http://disappointing.com/ is available @snapster
@unixrab So we shouldn't be pushing March Mehdness as a thing, then?
@djslack well...it has a slightly better ring than "March Screw-the-customers-over-with-obsolete-and-or-boring-lame-products" .... so there's that.
@ilovereality It has been asked in the forums. Repeatedly. And FitBit has said no.
@SIMBM I can see the hourly data on my profile though
@MsELizardBeth You can see the chart of the relative amounts. But you cannot see the actual numbers, nor is there any way to download that data. You'd have to hand copy the numbers down every day.
Kicass device...hella helpful too. Everyone loves it, like a pet hedgehog
@SputnikHQ Hedgehogs are totally not helpful.
Nah, I have a need for a couple of good heart rate monitiors though, something with either the chest strap or or wrist contacts.
@cranky1950 I happen to have two Polar FT7 watches with chest straps new in the boxes that were destined for ebay. If you're interested I'm chrismike318 at gmail. If this isn't kosher in the forums, mods feel free to delete.
Kohl's: 30% off (40 for some yesterday!) + $10 Kohl's Cash for every $50 spent = $70 - $10 Kohl's cash for one of these.
@mdrcoast that's rather disturbing...in a 1984 kinda way
@unixrab There is a lot more disturbing things in an 1984 way then a fitbit. (I am sure mine is not listening to my thoughts)
@mdrcoast I was talking more about the company than the device:
@unixrab Oh I know, it was kind of a tongue in speech response. I kind of agree with you...
@mdrcoast :-)
@unixrab It's a great idea to contain health costs- the company ends up with a healthier group of people who likely make less claims, thereby keeping rates /and or rate increases lower. People feel good about doing it, and the cost to the company vs. the benefits is low.
@dashcloud UP DOWN "Winston 49" UP DOWN UP DOWWWWWN!!!
FitBit - it's like posting photos of your lunch - only 10x more boring!
http://www.buzzfeed.com/kenpond/fitbit-the-biggest-and-smallest-most-worthless-nfit
It's worth it.
The only thing I like about mine is seeing how many times I wake up in the middle of the night.
If this was the Charge HR I would be all over this :(
Doesn't do anything your phone can't. Costs way (~3x) more than competitor products that have an OLED display. Does no one know that their phone has an accelerometer in it?
@Fen_Star kinda awkward to duct tape your phone to your wrist to track sleeping activity.
@wildmomo you realize you're freaking out the Fitbit data nerd snoops in the engine room by user-swapping?
@wildmomo do they count moving an arm as a wake up? I am having trouble understanding the majic in this. People don't sleep motionless like corpses.
Can't you all sell something for us normal people? Like, um.. something with beer and potato chips?
@Steve7654 cue #00FF00 beer in 90 minutes
I know this trick. Order a Fitbit and get knives instead. Nice try!
Somehow this inspired me to buy a $37 misfit flash today.
Received my FitBit on Saturday...opened it Sunday. "Charged" it Sunday and Monday, except the device would not charge. Sent an email Monday, still waiting to hear back. Not happy. Want a new, WORKING, FitBit please!!!
@caitlinpannell seems odd -- they're pretty durable devices, and Meh is usually at least decent about responding...
I have been using this for a week and so far I like the Xiaomi fitness band better.
I use skylet fitbit flex and really work well. You can search “skylet fitbit flex” at amazon to get it.
@kittymong What a weird thing to bump this thread with. Those do look cool though.
