Personally Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening will always be my favorite 2D Zelda game, something about how many times I played it in childhood still makes me nostalgic today, it was a gift that came from my grandma for Christmas, she brought us two Zelda games, one for right away (Link to the Past) and one wrapped up for Christmas.
Close second 2D Zelda is A Link To The Past. My grandma brought that for us when she came for the last Christmas she was alive, I remember my brothers and I played through it together over the Christmas break, we got to put our mattresses on the floor and camp out and play through it while excitedly telling our Grandma all about every little detail, most of which she probably wasnt really too interested in but she loved us and listened intently. Thank you Grandma.
I am joyously embarrassed to say I have played none of them and cannot express an opinion. As an alternative I will offer my opinion of which Alien movie was best: Aliens. Thank you.
@brumagem I am very curious what about it you feel doesn’t hold up.
I think it was the peak of the series, though I haven’t gotten around to playing any of the ones that came after Wind Waker.
I haven’t played A Link to the Past in many years, but I sat next to a guy while he did a run-through about seven years ago and watched the whole thing.
@Tystix I have a few copies. I last played through it about two years ago.
I have yet to have to replace the batteries in any of my NES cartridges, though the last time I played a battery-backed NES game prior to then was probably around 2010.
I don’t feel like BOTW should be in the same category. It’s basically a different game with the characters and storyline we totally love. So if you take that out,
then I’m left wondering why the hell was Twilight Princess not on this list!
It’s a tie between A Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time.
Windwaker.
Zelda: Unplugged!
Team Arena.

I would comment about how Link to the Past doesn’t hold up today but I can’t throw stones from my Majora’s Mask glass house.

My 77 year old mother STILL plays the NES legend of Zelda (on a GameCube disk in her Wii)
Still have my gold nes cartridge and changed the battery in it at least 5 times.

Immortals Fenyx Rising
Spirit Tracks is my fav.
Link to the past and Link between worlds are both excellent for the top down aesthetic.
Breath of the Wild was my favorite 3d Zelda.
