#1. Call Me By Your Name
#2. Lady Bird. (I don’t care that it came out last year, it was one of my favorites of this year.)
#3. A cool indie sci-fi movie called Prospect.
#4. The Death of Stalin
#5. CoCo
BTW, First Man was a crock. Watch the documentary Shadow of the Moon instead.
A Storm is Borne [a flick about getting through the weather, at least so far].
A Stern is Burned [an action movie about a ship on fire!]
A Stirrup is Burried [and the rest of the horse, also; an oater].
Ass Turns into a Burro [heart-rending documentary about being miss-labeled at birth].
… enough of this drivel …
@ruouttaurmind I had read the book, but wasn’t terribly impressed by it. My best friend was obsessed, though, so we went. And on the one hand, because I didn’t adore the book, it didn’t bug me too much that it was one of the worst adaptations I’ve ever seen. But on the other, it definitely wasn’t Spielberg at his best. I give it two Mehs.
@DVDBZN@dannybeans I really enjoyed the book, so obvs I was interested to see the film. No, it was definitely not Spielberg at his finest. I didn’t think he’d screw it up that badly. Perhaps it was the James Cameron influence. Perhaps it was studio pressure to overindulge in CGI gags. Perhaps it was just a shit book and I was delusional when I read it. Friends who hadn’t read the book also thought it was crap, so it’s not just my dissapointment that the film hardly resembled the book. My position has been: Spielberg didn’t turn the book into a movie, but rather created a movie inspired by a book.
I think I’ve only seen Ready Player One this year.
I was looking forward to Bohemian Rhapsody, but the reviews are making me wary. My wife loved it, though, so I may still give it a shot.
The one I’m looking forward to now is Stan and Ollie - but I doubt any of the local multiplexes are going to show it. The local art house tells me they’re working on it, though.
@dannybeans I’ve seen Bohemian Rhapsody and I recommend it. It’s not like a cable TV biography, so if you go in expecting history to the letter and a lot of voiceover you will be disappointed. You can tell the cast are having fun with their roles, but they do a genuinely good job. There is a bit of dramatization, in the form of fudging the more uninteresting details to for a more interesting/cohesive narative, like how Freddie meets Jim Hutton, and the actual formation of the band, but IMO it’s not a big deal. Even if it weren’t the story of Queen, I think it would still be a solid movie.
@sammydog01 Yeah, I make a habit of not watching anything after the first trailer. I watched trailers for this after I saw the movie and felt bad for people going into it knowing too much.
I haven’t seen a whole lot of movies from this year this year… Black panther was pretty good. I enjoyed Jurassic World… That might be it for movies I’ve seen this year.
I’m waiting to watch The Nun with my little brother. I promised him when he went to basic training that I wouldn’t need to it without him. He’s coming down for Christmas, so that’s something to look forward to.
I’m not usually a movie-goer but this year I’ve seen Christopher Robin and Life Itself. The former was cute but predictable. The latter was not (predictable – at least for me). But I was with my Mom and family so they were both good
The one with the batteries.
Blazing Saddles
@ThatsHeadly User name checks out.
I enjoyed the Macron movie “Nationalism is a betrayal of Patriotism”
Incredibles II…because laser eyes go pew pew
The Death of Stalin
Infinity war?
Dead Pool II was better than the original, but now where near how much better Infinity War was over Age of Ultron.
@hchavers Say what?
We have not watched any new movies this year at all.
Bohemian Rhapsody
This list is shit. Bad Times at the El Royale. Been a meh year for movies.
@reclaimercube I forgot to put Arrival too. Not sure if it was late last year or early this year though.
The Night is Short, Walk On Girl
Uhhhh…
I think Obviously, there are too many to list, so just post yours in the comments, okay? is going to win an oscar or two.
@thismyusername I’m looking forward to the sequel.
@heartny @thismyusername Obviously, there are too many to list, so just post yours in the comments, maybe wasn’t okay?
Everything the original lacked.
@thismyusername I found it to be a more poignant tale than “Put that thing back where it came from, or so help me!”
“Gotti”. I mean, it has to be the best with the almost perfect audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

@UncleVinny
Wasn’t Coco last year? Or was it so good it gets both years?
It’s Deadpool 2 for me.
keeping with the write-up theme:
A Storm is Borne [a flick about getting through the weather, at least so far].

A Stare is Bare. With Zoolander in the lead role.
IMDB lists 14,505 movie titles either released, or scheduled to be released in 2018. I’ve seen 1. And it were total crap: Ready Player One.
@ruouttaurmind
How unfortunate. It really was over-hyped.

A Quiet Place
@Nuurgle I loved this. My only disappointment was that the trailers gave away too much of the movie.
@sammydog01 Yeah, I make a habit of not watching anything after the first trailer. I watched trailers for this after I saw the movie and felt bad for people going into it knowing too much.
@Nuurgle They started showing trailers in theaters months before it came out, and that was the heyday of Moviepass. It was hard to avoid.

I am not sure that I have seen any 2018 movies.
Was that middle Star Wars movie 2018? I didn’t hate it. That’s the most I think I can hope for.
I’m not usually a movie-goer but this year I’ve seen Christopher Robin and Life Itself. The former was cute but predictable. The latter was not (predictable – at least for me). But I was with my Mom and family so they were both good
we know its the greatest showman
@DaGbear5 I think that was last year.
Why didn’t you list any good movies?
@Al_Coholic Venom was good. And Stan Lee was in it.
